The baby's room
 

I just have to share this. We are so excited about the baby that we are already getting started on the baby room. We dont have a lot of money for the room since none of this was planned so we are going are trying to make all of our own decorations but I think this is going to be awesome.
We are going to an aquatic/mermaid theme since its a girl and my hubby started painting the room for me this weekend and I already ordered the most gorgeous mermaid fabric to make the bedding, window treats, etc. The room was baby blue (would have been perfect for a boy but thats okay, I love new colors on the wall :p ) but we decided to go with blue green color and you can see it in the background of the pics below. This weekend I painted this Mermaid painting (the mermaid in the painting matches the fabric I bought) and it will be the first of 3 similar paintings to go on the wall hopefully above the crib when we get it. What do you think? I usually dont ever do "cutesy" type paintings so this was sort of hard for me. I used ground up pumice granulars when I painted the sand so its actually feels like real sand and you cant really tell from the pics but I used a lot of paint and and molding paste in this painting so it has a lot of texture which makes it really fun to look at :p

I cant wait to get my mermaid fabric in!!! This is sooo exciting!!

Its kind of hard finding mermaid stuff that is non-Disney so if anyone happens to see anything at a store or online, please let me know. So far Ive been looking on ebay for stuff and thats where I found my fabric.

my son looooves it when people make things for him (my side and his dad's side). he must have 15 special blankets and loves them all. he even tries to cycle them out so no one gets jealous.

i love your mermaid! maybe you could take it somewhere and get it screenprinted or embroidered on little tiny things, like the booty of a onsie, a matching baby hat (i love hats!!), and a sweet little blanket for her first trip home.

and you could name her "meranda!" and call her your little mer-maid!

My, Shana, your talents never cease to amaze me!! I didn't know you painted, too! That is so cute! You did a wonderful job. Can't wait to see the whole room!

It looks FANTASTIC Shana! You did a great job girl! I love the cutesy-whimsical look for kids rooms - especially little girl's rooms :) It is just so sweet.

Here are some pics I thought I'd share of my little cousin Gruenely's room. My cousin (Gruenely's mom) hand painted everything herself as well and it turned out wonderful! She did the "Fairytale/Princess" theme for her and got the Pottery Barn bedding to match.

That's adorable. We're going to have to have a baby shower. I love baby showers.

One more of Gruenely's room (well, it's more like the ceiling lol) :p She hand painted all of that as well - WHILE SHE WAS PREGNANT :eek: Talk about breaking your neck :p

The other 3 pictures are of my cousin's Sydney, Kelsie, and Lola Grace's rooms. They just moved to a new home in Montecito, CA - so she just recently sent some pics (although their rooms aren't finished yet). I didn't post pictures of my cousin Taylor's room as she is a teenager now and her room isn't very "sweet and girly" - it is more "hip and cool" lol :p

Wow Brooke, that room is adorable!! I can't believe she hand painted all that!! That's great. Shana's room is going to look just as beautiful the way she can pain too!

omg...that little mermaid is just adorable!!!! its good cause it can grow with her too. I'll keep my eye out. Can't wait to see it all done. You did a wonderful job on that painting!!!!!!!!

since you guys are sooo creative..it would be cute to make a toy box that looked like a shell.

Awww, that is so sweet that your son cycles out the blankets so as not to make anyone jealous, how thoughtful and considerate! That is adorable!

I use to paint and draw all the time, I was acutally going to school for it and then I got married and school was too hard to pay for financially, bla bla bla sad story, etc, lol. Once I started sewing and started my dog boutique business I lost my painting room so I havent painted in almost 2 years until this weekend. We had to dig my supplies out from the garage, several closets and storage unit, lol. I have decided Im definetly going to start painting and drawing again, I had fun this weekend. :)

That room is absolutely adorable! Is there clouds on the ceiling? Its hard to tell from the pics but I can see that there is some sort of cute designs painted on the ceiling.

Shell toy box is such a cute idea. Ive decided Im going to buy a wooden lamp and shelves that I can paint matching mermaids on as well, I think Im goign to have this entire room done in one month, lol. Im having so much fun with this. Now if baby Tess would just arrive sooner, lol

But yes...on the ceiling are big fluffy clouds (soft blue and white) with shimmery little butter yellow stars :)

That is too cute, hmmmm I didnt even think of painting on the ceiling! Maybe I'll have to do that :p

It is so cute - my little cousin Carson also has this in her room on the ceiling and it is just adorable. Of course, if you have the "popcorn" type stuff on your ceiling, you would have to scrape all that off first (which can be somewhat of a pain :rolleyes:) - but the end result when it is all painted is soo cute :D

Oh Shana it looks wonderful!! I love the theme you are going for, it's still so girly and pretty and I love the colors too! The painting is beautiful! Your baby will be very spoiled I think and beautiful! My brother and his gf are also having a baby girl. She is 6 months pregnant right now, this is their 1st baby, and my first real neice. They are going to name her Azalea Marie. I am sooo excited! I think everyone has baby fever, it's so weird I even had a dream last night that I was pregnant, it was so weird but that's not gonna happen anytime soon, I hope. Anyway I am so excited for you. My bro hasn't even gotten started on the baby's room but I will be helping him and will post pics when we get it done.

Oh I know...LOVE the castle, and I love how she did the mirrors/windows in a metallic silver to make them look a little more life like and add a special touch ;)

I know, she does such a great job and is SO talented! You should see the rest of her home :eek: :eek: :eek: She SO needs to be an interior decorator!

Shana's little girls room is going to be absolutely PRECIOUS...I love the theme she chose, and she did a GREAT job on the painting!! :D
