Whenever I'm doing something fancy (or if I'm in the mood) I go get acrylic nails. I would reccomend that you get them rounded, because that makes them look more real. Also, if they have it available, get the gel. It's just powder mixed in with this liquid stuff, but it also makes it look more real, and it helps it last longer. and I get a French everytime. So I'd reccomend that. :) EDIT: where I go to get mine done, they don't speak much english. Just enough to make some small talk and understand what I want done. and everytime it's flawless. :) |
I used to work in a nail salon and if you are going to go with Acrylics, personally I would go with gels since they are a lot easier on your natural nail. Either way in both of these you can get a two-tone which is a white trip with a pink overlay, this is like a permanent french manicure, it looks so much better than having the white and pink painted over top of the acrylic. Just a suggestion! Remember that acrylics and gels must be filled every 2-3 weeks. and every other time you fill you'll want to get a two-tone fill. |

I already have acrylic nails on now. So if I go in and say I want a "built-in French" do my acrylic nails have to be removed? |
No I doubt it they will just probably do your next fill using both the pink and white acrylic powder. That is just my guess, it probably also depends on how long your current nails are, etc. |
Yeah was going to agree with others ... acrylics totally ruin your natural nails. I had them twice in the past and both time I left them on for only 2 months and it took at least 6 months to get my real nails to start growing again. I do at home french on my real nails fairly often. I love the look, its very polished. I am lucky, i bit my nails sooooo bad until I was 23 years old. My doctor said that my nail beds and cuticles were so mangled that my nails would never grow and I stopped biting at 23 and my real nails are LONG and HARD as rocks! I am very lucky! I usually have to file them down once a week cuz they get too long to even type in a week. I would definately do the french though. Its perfect for work and play! Plus it feels elegant when you look down at your hands and see it. You'll like it a lot Im sure!!! |

I noticed some are recommending gel nails. Although they are less damaging to the natural nail and do look more natural they are not as durable as the acrylic. I also tried doing gel nails. They are great for someone who doesn't plan on keeping the nails on. I used to do these for brides and girls going to the prom. |

I did it! 2 Attachment(s) Well, I finally got the nails that mother nature could never give me. The jury is still out on the salon. I asked for "built in french". The owner in broken english said, "You want french tips?". I hesitated and said "yes", not sure if we were communicating. I think we communicated just fine! What do you think? Thank you again for all of your help. This could just get addictive, if it were not for the smell! |
Nice......something a nail tech told me.... Quote:
They look very nice. A nail tech told me once that the shape of your nail should match your cuticle shape.....so, I choose a square, with the edges a little rounded. This tends to not wear down between fill ins......and regarding color.....it kinda depends on my mood, and how long I have waited to get a whole new set...instead of a "fill in". I use color in the fall and winter because I think that the american french looks nice with a tan....it is a little less bright white.....looks more like your real nail. You will now be addicted like the rest of us!!!!! |
