Bren, I was in kinda the same situation a couple of years ago. I needed a DREADED ROOT CANAL!! I had heard horror stories and just KNEW that I would be in terrible pain. Well, to my surprise, all the stories I heard were nightmares compared to my procedure. I was not completely under but I was so comfy... I slept thru it!!!! The doc had to put in a dental block to keep my mouth open because I was so relaxed and he thought that it would be easier than me trying to hold it open the whole time!!! The new techniques that are being used for some dental work is AWESOME. Just make sure that you have confidence in your doc and know that he is using the best technique for you. ........ and Good Luck!!! |
Its tommorow! And I'm scared and can't sleep!!!! I'm scared to not wake up. I've NEVER been put out before. I'm scared! |
You will be fine and wake up and still have to put up with us! Good luck. |
Don't worry everything will be ok!:) I had 4 wisdom teeth pulled a few years ago and I had never been knocked out before either. I went to an oral surgeon and he used the gas on me. All I remember was counting down from 10 and thinking he was the funniest guy ever. I woke up in the recovery room with some cotton in my mouth. I didn't have much pain at all, and I was good to go back to work in 1 day. I thought it was going to be a lot worse because of the horror stories my friends told me, but it wasn't bad at all! :) Good luck! |
Ive had mine done at a regualar dentist appointment with freezing and had no pain at all afterwards...you will be fine... Dawn |
Look at it this way...it will be over before you even know it, and it will be well worth it to be free of wisdom teeth problems in the future. I personally think the worst part about going to the dentist...is the bill!!! |
I had mine taken out last summer and I was the same way, TERRIFIED. I was in complete tears in the room where they set everything up...Mom had to hold my hand as they put the Iv in and everything. But it's not too bad, the pain wasn't bad as ppl say afterwards, and the recovery is fast. U just can't eat that well the first day. But I had mine done on Fri and went back to work Tues. Good luck ;) |
my son had all 4 pulled at one time, the oral surgeon gave us a prescription for some knid of pain medicine- little red pills- no problems. i freaked out when they brought him to me, because they neglected to tell me that he would still be groggy. i had 7 teeth cut out- all i remember- is laying back in the chair, they my husband putting me in the car. i also told my oral surgeon when i went back for check up- he needed to remember to not have a conversation with his patients are under the influence. lol. because i do not remember our conversation, my husband had to tell me about it. |
Here's my wisdom tooth story... It was about 12 years ago when my first wisdom tooth became impacted and infected. I woke up in the night in excruciating pain. The oral surgeon got me in first thing in the morning. Well, it was expensive, but getting two done at the same time would have been a better deal, but still more money than I wanted to spend at the time, so I decided to wait on the other one. AFter all, I only had the problem with the one at the time. He said to me, you're going to wish you had gotten them both done. Well, I was very scared as I started going under. I had never been given gas before, and I remember talking my head off and saying all kinds of crazy (I mean CRAZY) stuff to the surgeon before I went under. The next thing I knew, they asked me what I was talking about. I thought I was still having my same conversation. They said, we're done. I'm like, "you're kidding." No, they had already done it, I had gone under, and come back out trying to continue my same conversation. So I told them, "That was fun. I wanna do it again!" :D |
Breny, you will be fine! I had a tooth removed on august 6th.once the oral surgeoen put the needle in my hand I was out, 20 monutes laier I was ready to go, with stiches in mouh and gauzr in my moth. you will probably get a pail pill prescription @ a antibiotic, when i went vack a weeek later to get my stitches removed, he gave me another script of pain pills.Good luck! I am a chicken and know that you will do fine! Hugs, Vicki@Jasper |
Breny you will be fine!!! I do have one question though. Since you will be knocked out for yours can we trade procedures??? I have to get a root canal done and I will be awake. there that should make you feel a whole lot luckier to be asleep. I had mine done all 4 at once and its much easier then you think and you get to drink lots of great new foods!! |
GOOD LUCK -- though you won't need it. :p It will be fine and over before you know it! Sending happy thoughts your way ...:) |
It's not bad, you won't remember a thing. Afterwards it'll be sore for a while, but that will pass too. |
Awww, it'll be okay! I had mine all pulled just under a local and there really was no pain afterward, just achy. They should give you some good pills to help if there is pain. Good luck!!!!:) |
I had mine out on June 21. I am a big baby but did well getting the IV started, I do not remember anything after the first poke. When I woke up I was still under the medication. My hubby brought me home and I slept all the rest of the day and night with my four boy's home and playing with video games in the same room I was in. 3 day's latter and I was in pain only on the bottom right side, I called the dentist up 2 more day's after that and they had me come back in to check. Here I got DRY SOCKET!!! They had to repack it and now after a total of 8 re packs, it is just starting to close up. I do not know why I got the dry socket I do not smoke and I did not drink from a straw at all! They think the clot dislodged when I changed the gauze. I am in no way trying to scare you Like I said I did not feel a thing getting the IV started up and the first day I just slept. You should be aware that Dry socket can happen and if after the first few day's you are in pain still, call and get it checked out, don't think you are being a big baby like I did! |
I am suprised they are doing all four at once. My surgeon and dentist only recommended doing one side at a time. It's very hard afterwards to eat if you have both sides done. The upside is that you might lose some unwanted weight :D . I have to tell you two of mine were impacted and it hurt like a bugger afterwards because they had to go in and crack the teeth. The first time I was down for the count for like 4 days in pain. I did learn that Alleve worked better than any prescribed meds that they gave me including stuff with codine. That little trick helped me to be better in two days when the second side was done. I didn't do the sedation. I had a regular set of shots and numbed up everything and had it done. Anyhow good luck, and I hope you heal fast. |
Breny sorry I just saw this..... I want to let you it is not bad at all I know first hand. I Had 8  wisdom teeth! I had 7 of them removed I still have one. they did the top 3 and the bottom 4 so I had to go through it two times. I hate getting shots. But I'll tell you it really was not to bad. I be Praying you do as well as I did and just be glad you only have 4:rolleyes: |
Thanks for all the well wishes:) I've enver had an IV so that was a first for me and it wasn't TOO bad. After he put it in he said your going to start feeling woozy, after 20 seconds I did and said yup I feel it, andI don't even remember falling to sleep! I guess they had to wait for me to wake up, I stayed asleep a litlle longer than normal, but they walked me to a room and I kept trying to lay down and they wouldn't let me!!! My mouth was sooooooooo numb and filled with 2 pieces of gauze. I was doing alot a talking - no one could really understand me :) Hubby was laughing. I told then in the room that I would do it again! I stayed in the room for awhile cuz I was pretty dizzy and felt like I was going to throw up. Finally I tried iot and they walked me out. I felt Horrible all the way home. So dizzy and like I was going to get sick. We got in the house. I went to the couch, and started feeling better. I'm still a tiny bit numb but its wearing away. I tried to sleep but I think with me being so worked up, I can't. My hubby is shocked. I just can't sleep. The sweet thing is, I had Brodie's baby teeth removed a bit back, and told him that if I was making him do it, then moma would do it and thats when I set my appointment. I told him we'd have to take care of eachother. Well hubby let him out of his keenel and he made a straight shot right to me on the couch and stayed with me the whole time, loading me with kisses. He knew :) So far,the pain is ok. I ask for Motrin 800's, so they gave me thiose and I took one at 2pm. He told me the swelling won't show until day 2 or 3? and I'd be sore. So I ahven't ate since yesterday, and I'm STARVED! I want FOOD FOOD, no liquid stuff, what can I eat? Thanks for all the well wishes. I was scared to be put out and scared I wouldn't wake up!!!! |
jello. you don't have to chew it. i was going to say cream of wheat that's runny, but some of the grains might get stuck in your sockets. baby foods. (fruits taste best) |
How bout spegetti O's? |
YAY!!! You must be glad its over & done with now though! No more anticipation!!! :p I think I lived off mashed potatoes for a week! Happy recovery girl! :D Brodie is a sweetie to his mommy! :D |
Ok - Mom just called and her and dad are bringing me a chicken pot pie from KFC and a straeberry shake from mickyD's !!!! I just love them! |

Glad to see there's another spaghettios lover around!! They are pretty soft. You should be able to eat those. |
Try to avoid noodles, or anything with chunks of anything. It something gets stuck in one of the sockets it could get infected:( Pudding, ice cream, jello, mashed potatoes and gravy, anything creamy will do. You won't want to be trying to chew for a few days. It stinks, I know, by day three I was eyeballing the kids' food (that I had to cook!) and DYING:laugh: I was able to eat some stuff after the first few days. Hang in there, ya done good! You kept your promise to Brodie:love: |
Get this.... My hubby had his removed in the military and that night for chow they had steak and shrimp and he ate it all like nothing! |
Milk Shakes and Ice Cream taste sooo good after having wisdom teeth taken out (but avoid strawberry shakes that have bits of strawberry in them). The frostys from Wendy's are great too. The cold helps numb the pain. I would stay away from soup though. Don't forget to keep icepacks on your face. I found that bags of frozen peas or corn worked best. It will really help cut down on the swelling. I had mine taken out about 9 years ago. I had 10 removed, the most he had ever seen, I must be a genius :D |
