Cow Ants? Does anyone know anything about cow ants? I think that's what they're called. They're really big and mostly red with a little bit of black. They creep me out and I've seen several lately. I don't know if they bite but I definitely wouldn't want to find out because it looks like it would hurt  |
here in Texas you just assume the ants will bite. my favorite are the flying ones. it's so lovely how they can get to places that you shouldn't be touching in public! i think that the smaller black (sugar) ants don't mess with people, but they can still mess up your home. |
Are these the huge hairy looking ants that are hard to kill by squashing them? I don't know what they are called...I haven't seen those in a long time....but we have gotten so much rain. We have huge carpenter ants....they are big black ants. We keep the house sprayed, so we haven't seen any of those in awhile. |

They are actually members of the wasp family. Look them up as "velvet ants" or "cattle killer." They hurt like crap. Hey, you asked if anyone knew anything and that's what I know.:p |
woah! i've never seen those before. has anyone tried the Raid Wasp traps? |

Yep, that's the ones. You aren't kidding. You can step on them and they crunch...I swear, they have bones. Then they get up and chase you. I even ran over one with a car once and the sucker resurected itself and kept going.:( |
I've never seen anything like that - yikes - I'll stick to the Long Island ants - I think all we have are the little ones and carpenter ants - I've never been bitten by an ant - YIKES is all I can say,. |
Those are the hairy ones I was talking about...YUCK! They are soooo hard to kill, I don't think you can unless it is between two rocks! Ha! |

Thank you guys! I have one more question. I'm fairly new to living in the deep country and I swear I've seen so many bugs I've never seen before. I jokingly call them prehistoric bugs. Has anyone ever seen something that looks like an ant except it's John Deere green, almost a metallic green and has wings? I hate bugs with a passion and I have a tendency to stay away from them if I can't identify them. |

Those things are nasty |
LOL I have the heeby jeebies for real now. The BF said he's going to get me a little pea shooter or whatever in case the boar start rooting on the property and in case the bob cat comes back  Looks like I'll need one for the icky unidentifiable bugs from hades. If I ever see the male cow ant fly I'm pretty sure I'll pee on myself :p |

Where exactly is Byronsville? I live in Rome, which is in the extreme NW part of Georgia. I am about 10 miles from Alabama if you go west and about 1/2 way between Atlanta, and Chattanooga, TN. |
The green things I'm talking about aren't June bugs we've got tons of those in the evening and they love my hair  I'm in a curious mood today so I went to google images and I think they're called green tree ants. They're kinda pretty. Byromville is in Dooly County in central GA. I'm 20 min. either way between Cordele and Perry. I moved here from Warner Robins so it's been a huge adjustment for me. I like it for the most part. It does suck having to drive 20 minutes to get to a Walmart and 45 min. to get to a Target, Petsmart or a mall... My sister lives in Chattanooga and loves it. |
