oh my...guess what i saw today :( I went into this little doggie day care place where i took maggie the very first time she got her hair cut. (16 weeks old). i have always loved this place...the people are so friendly, the dogs rule the place, and their boutique is just fabulous. well, i went in to get maggie a new collar and get some nice treats for the doggies and decided to watch as they groomed a yorkie. Well, there were 2 standard poodles being groomed as well. this lady started to lower the table with a poodle on it and the dog fell!!! still in the collar that hangs down to hold the dogs. I felt so horrible for the poor dog. it fell off the table, hit the lower part of the table with it's hip, and then to the floor. it pulled the arm down with it so the dog was not choking but it scared the daylights out of me. I felt horrible. i am sure this is more common than i care to know but it was very sad for me to see it. i'm glad i groom my dogs myself. they may not look the best...but they look fine. and i know how they are treated and what goes on. :( :( :( |
Omigoodness!! Ok the more stories I read about grooming and what happens while the dogs are there the more I am convinced NOT to take my girls EVER!!! |
ME TOO. I've been grooming my girls for a long time now - and I'm going thru something today with Chanel - I trimmed her too close on her little bootie and now she has a raw spot:( :( :( ....I feel TERRIBLE but it won't stop me from doing them myself especially after reading the horror stories and knowing human behaviour. We really don't know who we can trust with our pets anymore. What may look like a great groomer can be deceiving and no one will take care of our pets like we do and be as gentle as we are. That's really scary for that poor poodle - what if no one was there to save him ?? What if they were busy somewhere else ?? He could have hit his head if not choked.....He could have died :( |

hey...with that raw spot...put neosporin on it. i shaved my cocker too close in one spot and it got very irritated but the vet said to put neosporin on it and it healed up in a day or 2. and it won't hurt them, apparently. |
When I hear stories like this, I look at my hack grooming with new eyes.:( |

I freaked cause I thought she got in ants or something and know I don't have any mounds cause I check my yard every single day.... but after all the rain it easily could have been. But still - I can't believe I gave her such a bad razor burn and I used my little Wahl trimmers - from now on when I brag how much I love that trimmer I'm putting a warning in my posts - WATCH OUT FOR THE BOOTY ! |

When you've been bit by one of these - you know it. I have the scars on my feet to prove it from my front yard - (from mowing the grass) which I don't treat as often. They're horrible little creatures and the bite really really hurts. Course if she HAD any ants bit her she'd have been screaming not whimpering. I think when she peed the urine caused the little spot to burn. But I still feel terrible. This is the first time I caused a razor burn:( |

Thats exactly why I do it myself too. No way am I going to trust someone after hearing horror stories. I'm not saying all groomers are horrible, don't get me wrong! I have a friend who's one :) I'd just prefer my babies are under my supervision. Quote:

I nicked Abbie's little booty the first time I trimmed her with those trimmers. She was just a little pup at the time. I felt HORRIBLY about it :( but she was ok. I thought she was never going to let me get close to her with those trimmers again but she did, the little trooper that she is :p . Now if that happened to Max, he wouldn't let me get near him with with a 10-foot pole!! I still take them for their professional groom every 2-3 months but I do touch ups in between. I will only take them to a groomer named Emily at a pet spa which is almost an hour away. They LOVE her and are so excited to see her so I feel ok about bringing them there and she does such a wonderful job with them. When Max comes out with her, he trots with his head held high, like he's in a show ring :D . It's so funny and cute at the same time. So I don't feel any anxiety about bringing them there, and the kids don't seem to feel anxiety about going. Max has been going to her for about 3 years, and Abbie has been going to her since I got her a little over 2 years ago. If Emily ever leaves that place, I don't know what I'd do--I'd probably have to start grooming them myself  Quote:

That's great you have someone like that. Before I started grooming the girls myself we had tried FIVE Groomers. When the last one I tried hurt Chanel (and I KNOW she did) - I stopped going. Chanel is an angel at the groomers so there was no reason for that woman to be rough (Cheri's the one who freaks out over getting Groomed) ...but the day I stopped going was the day Chanel whimpered in the car after being groomed - She never had cried in the car for any reason and I knew right then and there they'd been too rough ...:( :( I was SO Livid but had no proof - I did go back and the woman was just rude so I left it alone but tell everyone who asks to stay away from that Groomer I wish I could find someone I trusted but here in houston it's really hard to do...there's so many places. |

Poor Chanel. They should not have to go through such trauma just to get groomed :( :( :( . I went through a bunch with Max at first, too but they weren't abusive--they just didn't know how to groom a yorkie. I was paying $45-$55 for uneven chopped up hair. I could have done that kind of job for FREE!!!. Here's what you can do...since you can't find someone in houston, you can send Chanel and Cheri to Pittsburgh and they all can have a spa day together. A massage is included in a full service groom, too so they can have a day of pampering :D . AND it's $20-25 CHEAPER than the hack jobs I was paying for before!!! Check out this place--It's called the Cozy Inn Pet Resort and Spa (it's also a boarding facility) http://www.cozyinnpetresort.com/ Make sure your volume is up :D :D :D |
LOL !!! OMG I WANT TO GO !! :D :D I read this and fell out - Aerobics ?? LOLOLOL ~!! Now THAT I'd like to see ! Outside activities include nature walks on wooded trails, summer picnics, aerobic classes for overweight pets and low impact aerobics for older and physically challenged pets, dancing, ball games, frisbee, and much, much more! |
I didn't know they did aerobics either :p . Now THAT'S somethin' to see!!! I wonder if they do doga  |

with the serene music playing in the background... :lol tears :lol tears :lol tears All jokes aside--it really is a great place. I read an article in the newspaper last year that said the Cozy Inn was going to expand their boarding facility in the near future to include--are you ready for this--Cozy Chateaus, which will have full sized ADULT beds for the dogs to sleep on...for the dogs who are not used to sleeping on "lowly" pet beds  AND a person will spend the night there IN THE BED with your dog since most of them are used to sleeping with their skin family members. HOW ABOUT THAT???!!! I wonder how much it will cost to board your pet in one of THOSE??? |
Oh no that's just terrible!!! I heard a story (don't remember when) about a groomer who put a dog in a cage and put that dryer on him. Well, s/he forgot about the dog, and the dog died from the dryer heat! :( :( |

Did you guys 'nick' your babies when trimming them or could it possibly be a burn? The blade can get really hot when you use it. So what you think might be a 'nick' could be a burn. There is a spray you can get at Petsmart where the trimmers are located that will cool the blade while you use it. I stop every few minutes and spray the blade and I've never found a sore spot on them since. Next time you're trimming, touch the blade with your finger periodically and check the temp to see if it's getting hot. Just thought I'd share this, as it was something I wasn't aware of. |

thanks so much for posting that. My bigger trimmers (electric) DO heat up now that I think of it. |
OH MY GOODNESS!! That poor baby!!! This is why when I do take Mojo to get groomed, I stay right there chatting with the groomer. I will never leave him alone - ever! In fact, just a few weeks ago, I took him in and my grandmother had a doctors appt. I didn't want to leave him there or leave him and Lily in the car while my grandmother was in the doctors, so I drove (hauled) home (30 minutes) to take them back home and run back to get her and get to her appt. Whew! |
