Chinese Cat Lovers Halt Truck Hauling Cats to Restaurants Chinese Cat Lovers Halt Truck Hauling Cats to RestaurantsTuesday, July 10, 2007 E-MAIL STORY PRINTER FRIENDLY VERSION SHANGHAI, China — Chinese cat lovers mobilized online to save a truck load of cats from the cooking pot, a newspaper reported Tuesday. Veteran Shanghai cat rescuer Duo Zirong started off her mission of deliverance on Friday when she called police to stop a truck stuffed with some 800 live cats, the China Daily said. The standoff happened at a parking lot in a southern suburb of Shanghai. It continued for hours while cat lovers spread word of the incident online, eventually raising $1,320 in donations to buy the whole load. They now hope to place them in homes after posting their pictures and profiles on the Internet. "They were so frightened," it quoted one of the rescuers, Huo Puyang, as saying. "Some bit people when they tried to let them out of the boxes. Some still hide in dark corners and will not come out for food," Huo said. I\'m actually a little offended by people calling chinese food crap. Being that I am asian and I eat chinese food. Not that I condone eating cats & dogs. I would never dream of it either and that makes me sick & grossed out as well. I guess I\'m offended by it because I\'ve had to grow up with a lot of these horrible sterotypes. And it\'s rather annoying. I absolutely agree that eating of cats & dogs should be stopped. That is because we are so close to them and they are considered our family. I have a cousin that raises chickens and she swore herself off from eating chicken because of it. But I sometimes wonder what Indians think of us eating beef? Since the cow is considered holy to them. Perhaps they think we are sick & disgusting also. I think the fur trade is far more horrible & disgusting. But yes it disgusts me that dogs & cats are being used for food. |
They don\'t just eat cats and dogs. They kill them slowly for various reasons. They say the meat tastes better with the animal being scared when it dies. They show awful pictures and videos online showing their barbaric practices. I feel very strongly about this. They also torture bears, they keep them locked up in cages and drain their gall bladders everyday, I have seen a video and it was so horrible. I am on a bunch of yahoo groups for animal rescue and they send the most sad, horrific things. I think China is the worst country. I hope I am not offending anyone but if anyone has seen these things you would feel the same way. |
