anyone ever used Proactive? My 17 yr old breaks out pretty bad around her menstrual cycle. She has been wanting to try the Proactive, of course she see's all the celebs that say they have tried it and it works for them. So now she thinks she needs it lol Has anyone ever used Proactive before and what did you think of it? |
I got it and it worked for awhile and then randomly stopped. I started going to a derm. and got on a prescription medicine and haven't had problems since. |
I use to when I was younger but it didnt really work for me... Now I just wash my face in clean and clear, every day. I have not had one brake out in yrs. *KNOCK ON WOOD* :plol |
A few years ago I tried it w/ no luck .....then a teen I know tried it ...no luck either....I then looked at the active ing. & it was Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5%... which is in most of the over the counter stuff at the store...some of the stuff at the store has 5% & 10% Benzoyl Peroxide like Oxy....the only two ing. available over the counter is either Benzoyl Peroxide or Sylicylic Acid... |
My brother tried it and his face was red and dry for weeks. I had a lot of acne as a teen, and what worked the best for me was any over the counter facial cleanser with salicylic acid twice a day followed by a moisturizer (recommended by my dermatologist) and drinking LOTS of water. And also, make sure all make-up is labelled non-comedogenic, so it won't clog pores! |
My daughter used it and it seemed to work well for awhile and then it just STOPPED working....for no reason, no changes, etc. She has tried different things from the dermatologist (like Differn, etc), but those didn't seem to really work well either. Neutragena (sp) came out with some new acne stuff that we have tried, she is doing good on it right now......we will see how long that lasts. We are making another derm. appt. for her too.......I heard tanning helps, but I don't know? |

Never know.. It might work :p. |
Wanted to add: at one time the dermatologist said to use Cetaphil to wash your face with, because it is a gentle cleanser. |
I used Proactiv when I was younger and it made the problem worse. I also had several friends this happened to. I switched to Mary Kay and it kept me clear through the "stage". I now tend to shy away from products that use heavy celebrity endorsements. I agree Cetaphil is a very good cleanser as well. |
i used it and it made mine worse anything with Sylicylic Acid works great im using noxzema triple clean collection i love the blackhead scrub theres also one i use a while ago that is made from that time of the month i cant remember the name tho if i find it ill post it |
I used it for a while when I was about 17-18 and had the same results as many. My face was nasty for the first 2 weeks. SUPER dry & very red & patchy. Then, it magically cleared up for about a month, then I started breaking out worse than before I started using Proactive with no changes to my skin care regime. Same thing with my sister who was about 13 when she used it. The doctor then put me on BCP, but they didn't work for me. They did work for my sister, though  You could try putting her on BCP...just a thought. Tanning's really the only thing that helped with my skin. I'm older now & I don't get big zits anymore, but I'm full of blackheads. Still haven't found anything for that... |
I never used proactive but I use avon products (I'm a rep) and they work really well. |
I had a friend that used it and she said watch the commercial and put the pictures the there other way around and thats how it worked for her. You now how they show the before and after pics. just switch the before to after and the after to before. |
