Laser Hair removal anyone??
 
I am thinking of getting laser hair removal done in some unmentionable areas ;) I've never done this but have heard both positive and negative things. I would love to hear personal experiences. I've heard it works well with thick, coarse hair. Some people say it's painful and others say they didn't feel a thing. Can you share your experiences with me please?? :eek: :p

Both my best friend and my sister have had this done. My sister had bikini area and underarm, my friend had both of those plus her legs done. Yes, it does work best on coarser dark hair - which means the underarm and bikini area usually do really well. Neither one of them have said that it's TOO painful to continue with but they have both mentioned that anyone who does this should definitely use the numbing cream that they give you to use before the treatment. Cost wise..... expensive..... but apparently worth every penny. I would LOVE to have at least the bikini and underarms done!!

i would love to do that also, but those unmentional areas would be impossible
to get it all, i think....they have to get into each and every hair follicle,
one by one. i dont think its painful, but you do have to go back to do it
again

Yep, it takes many treatments for any area. If I remember right, for both my sister and friend, it was 6-8 treatments - 6 weeks apart. So it takes quite a while for the entire thing.

Yea I know you have to go back like 6 times or more to get it finalized. I just would hate to spend all of that money, and have it all grow back :eek:

I love laser. I had my underarms done and I want to do my legs, private place lol and my arms. Most places will make you put a numbing cream on, use it. Trust me, use it. If not it will hurt (like a rubber band snapping against your skin). If you use the cream, it's completely fine. Laser isn't forever ... you will probably need 1 treatment every 1-2 years to maintain it but most places offer a cheap follow-up visit ... like let's say $30. So for me, it's totally worth it. I love it.

I had my legs, bikini, and under arms done. The legs didn't hurt at all. But the bikini and under arms hurt the most. I think it was worth it because the pain only lasts a few minutes and then it's done. Idk if you have ever had a tattoo, but my tattoo hurt more than the laser! I didn't use a numbing cream n I did just fine. I had results right away, but I have very light skin and very thick black hair. I had 8 treatments. And the place I go to offers free follow ups, if needed.

And have you stayed hairless since or is everything growing back??

My laser is new, so nothing has brown back yet. But they said it never grows back fully. You'll maybe get a few very light hairs after a year. That's why those off those cheap follow-up visits.

I'm having my bikini, underarms, and legs done right now. I have gone through 2 treatments on each area. I can already tell a huge difference on my underarms and some difference on the other areas. I will tell you it hurts like CRAZY!!!! I'm sure it will be well worth it though. :)

That's what I was told!! That's why the numbing cream is soooo important because if you don't use it, it HURTS!! :eek:

Yeah, I have the numbing cream for the next treatment. I didn't realize that they turn up the setting on the laser each time, so it gets worse!! I hope this cream will help. I thought I was going to jump off the table! :p

OK now I'm a little scared!!! Can I get knocked out for a bit or get laughing gas..lol..How bad does it hurt? Does it hurt kinda like when you pluck eyebrows? On a scale of 1-10 with one being virtually no pain/discomfort and 10 being I CAN'T DO THIS FOR ANOTHER SECOND kind of pain, what would you guys say it is?

For me it didn't hurt at all because I had the numbing cream. Thank god for the cream because I can't tolerate pain of any kind, I'm a wuss lol :D

Umm...it does feel like a rubber band snapping your skin. It only lasts for a few seconds, but in the moment it hurts BAD!!!! I haven't tried the cream yet, but I've done it 2 times without, and I survived. It just feels terrible in the moment.

That's exactly it ... SNAPPING RUBBER BANDS! I felt so pain, so I asked the tech to do it one time on a piece of my arm where there was no numbing cream so I could feel it and man did I regret it lolol

I do electrolysis. It's the only proven form of permanent hair removal. I've done my eyebrows, upper lip, toes, and bikini area. I had it done in middle school/high school and it never grew back. It's so nice to never have to worry about plucking or waxing my eyebrows or shaving my bikini area.

No, I'M a big, I mean HUGE chicken!!!!!!!! I use numbing cream from the drugstore and I seriously can't feel a thing. When the cream wore off, she would put some more on, work on another area until that area was numb again, and then come back to it. Seriously, there is NO bigger chicken that I!!!!!!

But electrolysis does it 1 hair at a time :eek: Plus this place I found has a 2 year guarantee, as long as I go for the 6 sessions I'm supposed to go for. I've heard about how painful electrolysis can be :(

I didn't know you could use numbing cream. Now I would seriously consider it instead of laser. I've only done my underarms so far; so it's early enough for me to switch. Is it a lot of money? Does it take a long time (each session)? Do you need to go back more than once for one area? Any advice?

Yeah, it is one hair at a time, and that's why you can't do your legs. But, it's PROVEN. It costs as much as laser but, unlike laser, it is proven to be permanent. I've had it done 7 years now and haven't had any regrowth. And I swear it doesn't hurt. I'm the girl that passes out at the doctor's office from a shot. I'm the biggest baby in the world. With the numbing cream, I swear you can't feel a thing.

Why can't you do your legs? I'm sure they'd be expensive but it's worth it because it's forever.

It is alot of money, but I don't think it's any more expensive than laser. Each session can last as long or as short as you want. It all depends on how long you can lay there without getting ancy. I usually went for 30 minute sessions at a time. If you go for long enough to get a whole area done at once, then you won't have to go back for that area. But, you may want to break it up. The only downside is, if you've been plucking your eyebrows, then they might grow back a time or two before it becomes permanent. But, if you've never plucked, then the first time you go, it'll be permanent. I was lucky that my mom made me start going to an electrolysis early (when I was 13) so I never plucked my eyebrows (or any other area) and and nothing ever grew back.
