Paypal Nightmare!! I got an e-mail from paypal saying that they put a hold on account. To be more specific, they put a hold on a payment for something because it came from a computer in CAIRO!!  They said all my past purchases have come from New York; so they got suspicious and put a hold on the payment. They said all I had to do was call and approve the payment and they'd process it. OMG!! Umm … lemme think, I've never been to Cairo … so someone got a hold of my password and tried to use it!! SNEAKY PEOPLE!!! They tried to charge $480 to my paypal account!!!  I'm just so glad paypal monitors these things and didn't process the payment until they received confirmation from me!! The only thing that really sucks is they temporarily suspended my account because they're investigating everything. I didn't lose any money and wasn't charged any fees … I just can't use paypal for a few days until this is all cleared up. :( This stinks for me because I'm a big internet shopper but I'd rather not be able to stop for a few days then lost $480 to some friggin thief!! |
It could be a fraud email. I get them all of the time from people pretending to be PayPal. They want you to go in and give them your information. Did the paypal letter adress you as dear paypal customer or did they use your name? Pay pal will never send you an email without using your name. I bet if you go into that letter and type in some bogus user name and passoword, it will open right up for you to input your information. Beware because people are doing this all of the time even with your bank account name on them. I hope you didnt give them any information. I forward all of mine to Pay Pal and never once have they been the one to send the letter to me. |
Paypal woes. I got hacked back in December and the person who hacked in purchased some stuff on Ebay for a total of $550 which came out of my checking account. Paypal didn't find this though - I did!! They were great about it and I got the $ refunded. I went through extra security measures with Paypal, changed ALL my passwords and I've been fine since. But my Paypal account was frozen for over a week. |
NO no no!!! You are being phished!!!! Don't give them any information. Stop! Please I hope you haven't sent anything. That message you received is a scam!! |

I am glad you called them. I cant even count the emails I have gotten from someone pretending to be Paypal saying my account was frozen and they were all scams. |

GOOD GIRLS! :) It's sad that we have to be paranoid, but people really are out to get you! Identity fraud is so rampant. |
Please be careful. If you think there is something wrong with your PayPal account, never respond to an email. Call PayPal! Then document everything. I had my PayPal account hacked and someone in the Philippines bought a computer and over drew my business checking account. I had to change my banking account which was a real PIA. In the process, PayPal did nothing to help and in fact, I was awarded money from a class action lawsuit against PayPal related to their lack of investigation and assistance with fraudulent account access. |
that is a smart move...i recently recieved an email about $120 needing to be paid for something i recently bought...but i went directly to paypal...(not clicking on the link in the email) and made sure i was on paypal..and let them know that someone is phishing...and they started their investigation...and now i am clear...ekek |
You poor Baby no shopping for you for a few days I feel your pain. Here is a hug hope it helps a little. Hugggggggssssssss |
oh no!!!!! im glad you were able to find this out jen... this could of been a nightmare... thats why i dont have paypal... nope, nope, nope just use credit card, that probably worse, but i keep good track of what i buy on the internet everyday ha ha |
Thanks for the heads up! I just went to PayPal and changed my password... a really tricky one and I don't know if I'll ever be able to remember it... I also have my PayPal account linked to a seperate savings account and never more than a few bucks in it. |
wow, i am so glad i read this. i would be stupid enough to believe it. thanks guys. also, i like the idea of having an account w just a few dollars in it. that is a great idea. |
if you get an email from ebay , make sure it starts with your registered name. like dear so and so. if it says ebay customrer, delete it. thats what is says in their info to keep from getting scammed. if mine doesnt say dear (my first and last name) I delete it. thats what happened to me first time i opened an account within 3 days of opening it. I thought someone was trying to get into my money and I turned right around and closed my acct and didnt set up another one from fear till recently. But thinking i'll just close this account to as it makes it too easy to buy things that I wouldnt probably buy or do other wise. |
i too get these emails from paypal. the only sad thing is my hubby to gets them and the pay pal account we have doesnt have his email on it. So we ignore them all. |
That is horrible. I'm sorry to hear....maybe it's a good thing there is a hold on your account so no one else rings anything up. Good luck |
This stuff scares me!! I am glad that it was caught. Everytime I get an email regarding PayPal or eBay, I forward on to them to make sure! I never (EVER) do anything w/ the email. I hate that we have to be so freaked out about things like this.....CRAZY PEOPLE! - JUST STOP IT!! (hee,hee...I feel better now). |
