I've Not Smoked Any Cigs ALL Day! How proud of myself am I!!!! It's nearly midnight and I've not touched one! They have been on the table in front of me all day and I've not even been bothered!!!!! |
Way to go girl!!! |
Yay, same here for 3 days. Keep it up. |
Thank you both! :D Quote:
I did start off just cutting down but then thought it would take too long so I'll just quit! lol |
Great job, let's see if we can both keep it up. Good luck. I know we'll need it. |

GOOD FOR YOU BOTH!!! I don't think anyone needs to preach at ya...although I could  but that is soo great that you are making that decision to quit smoking!!!!! My step-mom smokes and has had cancer two times and continues to, so if you need any help one day when you think of taking a puff, just think of cancer..not cool. Anyway, didn't mean to drown you in misery, but that is just great! Congrats again!!! And keep us updated :) Love to hear progress |
Well, all I have to say to that is: :bravo: :bravo: :bravo: :happyboun:happyboun:happyboun :good job: :good job: :good job: |
I don't smoke, and maybe it's healthier not to smoke, but it seems everyone I know that has died already (and it's a lot of people) has died of cancer and have never smoked. I have friends who smoke like chimney's and are healthier than most. I'm wondering if the nicotine doesn't kill off certain cancer cells and other bad things. More people die of cancer here in the US than in all of Europe, and more European's smoke than Americans. Any reputable Dr. will tell you that if you have been smoking a lot for a lot of years, then it's dangerous to your health to quit cold turkey. Your body goes into traumatic shock and you can have a heart attack and can also end up with emphysema AFTER quitting!! Also since nicotine is considered a drug, then why hasn't the government taken it off the shelves? (They are getting billions off of the cigarette companies). Just bumping and grinding my brain here!!! |

So does that mean it's not good just to stop? What do they class as a lot of years?? What if you're pregnant though, it can take some people months to cut down to nothing, surely it's in the baby's best interest to just ASAP? |
Congratulations! Great job, I know it's a hard habit to kick. :bravo: I think the higher cancer rates in the US have to do with our lifestyle over here. Poor eating habits, (I know I don't eat enough veggies and fruits, and am in the process of trying to lose the last 50 lbs -- I've lost 22 lbs so far), and I also think we aren't active enough -- it seems like everywhere I go, I drive; everything is just too far to walk to. Lol, just thought I'd share my opinion. ;) |

All the people that I know who've quit are still leading healthy lives. I quit (cold turkey) 20 years ago...my mother quit cold turkey about 5 years later...she's 72 and quite healthy... I'm just saying, be careful, statistics can be misleading. |
|
You go girl!! I have never wanted to stop smoking and probably should...but it will probably take a heart attack to get me to quit unfortunately...I am proud of you for attempting and I hope it works for you!! Dawn |

I'm so proud of both of you. Your body deserves to be chemical-free - especially if you are carrying a new life. The link above is very informative. Unfortunately, I know the ravages of smoking first hand. I suffered with my dad, who first had to have his larynx removed but unfortunately it was too late. He spent the last years of his life unable to communicate & in excruciating pain due to a nicotine addiction he began in WWII. He had to have his lungs suctioned out several times a day through a hole in his throat to attempt to let his scarred lungs provide enough air for each painful breath. It is agony watching someone you love be cut up a little at a time due to a cancer his doctor told him he had never seen in non-smokers. As my mother was dead & I was the only child, I was the one who sat by his bed & watched him suffer & I was the one who had to sign the Do Not Resuscitate order when neither of us could bear his agony any longer. In his very last days, when he could no longer communicate in any way & the doctors told me he was beyond pain, the tears still rolled out of his closed eyes. I don't mean to sound dramatic but this is something you should never put your loved ones through. Your health isn't just about you, its about those who are left behind as well. |
:congrats: :bravo: :good job: :clapsmile :woof: :cheersm8: :big_hug: :cool88: Wonderful!! Report in every day & let us know how it's going. |

Way to go girl!!!  |
Great job!! Keep it up :) |
a couple of months for me. I used that new drug to help me. It didn't help me any at all. $300. down the drain. but .......i am still not smoking. it is not getting any easier yet and have went to the neighbors house several times asking her for the main reason I decided to quit. i keep one cigarette in my purse (stale by now) just so I can have the pleasure of being in control. I quit once for a year and half. taking care of my mother with alzheimers drove me back to it. what a bad decision i made that day! good luck to you all. |

I quit 30 years ago. You can do it. There have been stressfi; times when I have been real tempted to pick it up again. 2 years ago at my mom's funeral I tried to beg one off my nephew. He refused to let me have one. Told me to knock it off & he wouldn't be responsible for my starting again. Tough Love. |
