Can I just whine??? My Teeth hurt SOOOOOOOOOOO BAD!!!!!!!!! I had a new arch wire installed yesterday and it hurts! this one is Stainless Steel! My Ortho said that all of my other wires had been ridged but had still had a degree of flex to them, but that this material does not. He wen't on to say that I will feel great pressure... Great pressure my ass! Its like a vice grip!!! I swear it hurts sooooooooooo BAD! So when your teens complain about their braces... its true.... all of it! Buy them ice cream! Gallons! Buy them Icees! Buy them whatever they want! They deserve it!!!!!!! Cause it Huuuuuuurts! Ok... I think I'm done.... No wait... on the 7th... I take impressions... a week later... Biteplate! And lower braces put on! I'll really be in hell them!!! I can't wait! I'll be talking like the village idiot! |
It gets better, hang in there.lol.....I know what your talking about about the pressure....every time I went in for my braces to be tightened it really felt like someone was squeezing my teeth with pliers ....it would last about a good day ...that whole day I was so irritable...well, really I was a b**ch.lol .... Hope yours goes better...just think of the end results.:) |
I can't wait!!! This is 6 months now and each new wire has been painfull... but not like this! Stainless Steel should be limited to mixing bowls and pots and pans! Yikes! Its really very ridged! I cant believe how strong a tiny piece of wire is! Or the glue holding these brackets on for that matter! Its insane! But in the end... it will be soooo worth it! I wish I had done it when I was younger! Its so much harder as an adult! |
I'm an adult with braces I feel your pain I also have braces OMG! We will be thrilled with the end results :D |
oh girl I feel your pain...it DOES hurt and I would have thought the procedures were less painful than they were years ago :( :( ....I bet your poor mouth is chewed up inside....not to mention the pain of your teeth being moved.... keep thinking of the Goal.....it's getting closer and closer |
Why not ask your dentist for a mild painkiller for the bad (painful) times...like now ? They can just call you in a few to get you thru this....OTC pain relief sometimes doesn't cut it....I've been having really bad headaches lately and they don't help at all... |
I had completely forgotten about the way you talk til you mentioned it....you wouldn't think a little piece of wire would make a difference but I sounded like Sylvester the Cat for a while...lol Suffering succotash!!! |

Girl, I can feeeeeel your pain! This is my THIRD and final time having braces! They suck big time but the end result is well worth all the pain! |
K, hang in there!! I had braces for two years and I know how those new wires hurt!! I always was a baby and took some tylenol or whatever to release some of the pain!! My bottom lip didn't like all the brackets and I had these HUGE bumps on my lip in-between EVERY BRACKET!!! It was all chewed up and looked NASTY!! The wire would cute them open and all!!! I feel your pain!! The end results are WELL WORTH IT!! I LOVE MY TEETH!! How long are you going to have them on? When did you get them? |
I remember how horrible it was for me. After every session of them tightening them, I would literally cry myself to sleep.. it hurt that bad. My mom used to give me frozen wash cloths to bit on. |
I can also sympathize. I got braces a third time at 29, a few years back. They had to have me use a jaw expander. My Uncle described it as looking like the grill of a 56 CHEVY behind my upper teeth. I had this for over 7 months. I lost 11 lbs could barely eat as all the food would get trapped behind it. I had to use a special tool to uptrap the food. It took me 3 months not to sound like there was a problem with me when I spoke. The worst part was I had to crank it on a daily basis. There was this metal tool that I had to fit into a slot and crank to expand the jaw.... TALK ABOUT PAINFUL! Though it was all worth it in the end. :) |
I had braces put on my freshman year of HS.. I hated them! omg the pain was so horrible!! and I'm sorry... but it never got better!!! It hurt.. every time I had them tightened.. every time I opened my mouth to talk... PAIN.. oh and the slurring:eek: I'm glad my teeth move fast.. I actually got them off early.. I had them on for I think a little over a year:confused: But just wait till you get the bottom ones.. you think the top hurst?! HA!!! not as much as the bottom.. make sure you have plenty of ice cream on hand.. or better yet.. vodka But you will be pleased with the end results.. I get compliments all the time on my beautiful teeth:D |
Gosh I remember how bad braces hurt. I learned quickly when I heard the words "upper chain" I was in trouble!:( |

And at some serious cost though.... PAIN! The Power Chain is NOT your friend! Right now its only four links long and across my front teeth... but the tension! Good Lord the Tension!!! Its enough to bring down a BULL! |

I had my braces for 2 and a half years and went through lots of pain with them each month it was just as bad or worse! i've had the whole power chain thing i've had surgery and then a lock n key type thing and more! They had to prescribe me pain medicine it was so bad! Im 16 and just got them off in january and im loving it ! It was well worth it ! Prom this weekend will be my first highschool dance without them!!! yay! Hang in there it will be worth it! an ice pack worked for me! |

I had them put on up in Northern Cali and wore them for 3 months then moved to Southern Cali and it took 6 months to get an apt with an Ortho cause nobody would see me! "We don't take transfers" Turns out nobody takes transfer patients! Reason being that the harware you have in your mouth is never compadable with their systems... ugh! And that means that they spend an hour consulting with you only to have to give you the bad news that you have to pull everything off and start over.... at whick 99% of people tell men to get hosed and bail. A huge waste of the Dr's time... so they just don't make the apts... So I managed to get my step sons ortho to see me... He gave me the bad news and the inside scoop on why I couldn't get in anywhere... Soooooo, I yanked everything off... Scrapping 2,000 investment in whatever?? And started all over this time on a great payment plan... I had to do something... I had the choice of removing the old ones and letting all the work that had been done reverse itself... or continue the treatment. Hubby refused to let me give it up... even with things being as tight as they were at the time... and I'm glad that he held me to it... cause everything worked out and they are looking sooooo good now. Pain and all! LOL So they've been on for about 4 1/2 months now and I should be in them for a year and a half.... The bite plate should only be in for 4 to 5 months... That is going to SUCK! My back teeth won't touck for over 2 months! I won't be able to chew solid food! LOL Who knows what I'm going to do with that??? Thank God for the Vita Mix!!! Lots of Smoothies for me!!!! |
Haha awww i FEEL your pain!! I had braces for FIVE.. yes FIVE years bac in Highschool!!!!!!!! Just think about the end result and how you'll have beautiful straight teeth when their off!! :D <-- like this! =) |

I have no experience with braces -- so I don't feel your pain. But I can sincerely say that I am so very sorry you are hurting. If you were close I would make you home-made fruit slushes using fresh organic fruit and some seriously delicious homemade ice cream! |

Invisalign Have any of you ladies considered trying INVISALIGN? Itz much less pain, I have heard. I never had to wear braces and still do not need to, my side of the family is blessed with good teeth and bones. However, I remember the pain my daughter went through. If I had it to do over again for her, I'd definitely let her have the INVISALIGN. Why suffer? I know itz a bit more costly, but so worth it. My cousin is using them now. http://www.invisalign.com/generalapp/us/en/index.jsp |
