need some help please! so the surgeons office called today.. and bad news.. i don't get in to have my gallbladder out until June 15th. i cried when i hung up with her... i don't know how i'm going to make it until then... i had it in my head that i would be getting it out at the end of may... and now i have two months... as it is i only eat one meal a day.. usually a lite lunch of a bagel and lite cream cheese.... and even that hurts... i feel miserable... does anyone know of anything i can take after i get an attack?? after i eat i'm in pain but i can't figure out what to take to make it go away... i'm making an appointment with my doctor to see if i can switch hospitals and get in sooner.... i don't know how people who live with chronic pain do it.. i have a new respect! i know my pain will eventually go away but it just feels like forever... so any help would be great! |
With all the pain your in, I can't believe the doctors are having you wait so long. Sending prayers you way. |
I'm so sorry. I hope you can find a clinic that can get that sucker out sooner. I really hope you can find some way to ease the terrible pain you are feeling. I don't know much about gal badders but maybe different foods would react differently in your body. Have you tried different food to see if the pain eases? |

Before I had gall bladder surgery I ate very tiny amounts a couple of times a day. Usually yogurt or something light like that. I know how you feel! I thought I was having a heart attack and it was always worse at night. I ended up sleeping on a "back wedge" pillow sitting up until I had the surgery. I hope things work out so you can get in earlier. That's one of the most miserable things I've ever been thru. |
I can't beleive they are making you wait my doctor forced me to have mine out the gall stones can get stck and go into your pancreas(sp) and cause serious problems. Try to find another place to get it done sooner. I know first hand the pain doesn't go away it just gets worse and it get so bad that water will cause an attack. For now to keep the pain down you need to eat balnd foods nothing fatty nothing greasy that inclused cream cheese. your doctor should be able to help you with foods that will be safer. also i ate plain toast no butter(fat) that was all i could eat and then it got so bad i was having 3-4 attacks a day even from water. Good luck i'm sorry you have to suffer i know it sucks if you need anything please let me know |

i was re reading my post above and i sound like i'm drunk lol sorry for all the typo's |
Gosh, I'm so sorry, it sounds horrible. Okay here are some foods that are apparently 'good' for this condition: Beets Cucumbers Green beans Okra Sweet potatoes Avocados (so yummy too!)-a good way to get needed fats directly from food Tomatoes apples, grapefruit, berries, oranges, papaya, pears |
I have gall stones - at least one huge one that the dr. called in all the nurses to see during my amniocentises and ultrasound in 1988. It was the biggest he had ever seen. Up till then, I would have what felt like a heart attack about every 2 weeks. After Krysten was born, I started having them up to 5 times a week sometimes 2 or 3 a day. I went on a fat-free diet that helped. It was hard at first but got easier as I discovered things I could eat. I never had it out and I haven't had an attack in probably 3 or more years. I don't know if it disolved on it's own, but the Dr. couldn't feel it any more. Yes, it could be felt from the outside. Stay away from anything gassy, fatty, fried, dairy, chocolate, or anything with oils in it. Good luck. |
I feel for you and hope you can get it done sooner!Roxyjosmom is right on with the foods to avoid and sometimes even spicy will trigger.I had mine removed Oct 2005 I am so glad thats over,I put it off for months telling myself stomach virus even though I knew better, finally couldnt bear it any longer, even water had me in pain so bad I broke out in sweat, had the ultrasound to confirm and a few weeks later (delayed d/t increased heartrate)had lap surgery to remove it.The surgeon said it was the most stones he has seen,I 'd had them for a long time.I thought about it and I have a daughter at time she was 6 when i was pregnant I joked I was naming her Maloxx because all the pain I had , I know it was GB attacks!Good luck!I know your pain. |
I,m so sorry you have to wait Marci, that's just wrong that the doctors would make you wait and suffer with all that pain. When I had mine, all I could eat was dry toast, crackers and Gatorade. Maybe if you call and beg and just tell them how bad of pain your in, I would think they would sympathizes with you. |
I am so sorry! Cream of Wheat will be your new best friend. Prayers going up for you to get in sooner. Angie |
Girl why can't you get in sooner ?? Can you see another doctor and maybe get them to operate asap ?? it sounds like you need it... Sending hugs - that has to be awful |
I had my gall bladder out immediately. I would definitely tell my doctor that is unacceptable or find another doctor. It's a fairly simple operation and there is no reason why you should be in pain for 2 months. Good luck, I know exactly what you are going through and believe me...the pain does end. |
thanks guys.. i agree. i'm going to call monday to see my doctor and tell her i can't wait that long... if i keep going the rate i am... eating barely nothing.. there will be nothing to me in two months... and i have to work this summer (i clean boats for my parents) and that type of movement will not go over well .. wait let me clear that up.. i don't HAVE to work.. like they aren't making me.. but i'd LIKE to work.. lol... didn't want to give the wrong impression about my parents :) anyways.. i hope to get in to see her this week she is great at taking patients soon and i'll have her contact the surgeon. thanks so much for all the prayers and well wishes! |
I'm praying for you to get an appt sooner and to help ease your pain, I'm soo sorry you are hurting! |
I wish I knew how to help, I just want to say I am so sorry, that is horrible they are making you wait! I hope the doctors change thier mind so you can feel better sooner  |
I may be wrong and i hope i am but doesn't Canada have governement sponsored health care. I meet someone in Florida this year when i was down there that was from Canada and they told me they came to Florida for there surgery because it took to long in Canada. so that may be the reason. I'm not sure but that is what they said. |
well i don't know what government sponsered health care means.. but if it means our health care is free.. then yes. so i imagine if you wanted surgery sooner yuo'd go to the states where you would have to pay which would get you in sooner... i have a feeling that i can go to my doctor and tell her i need in in the next month and she will get it changed.. i think my surgeon felt i was getting by.. perhaps i gave him the impression that things were fine... wrong impression :p |
So sorry about the delay I hope that when you talk to your doctor they will speed it up.:) |
I feel for you hun...I went through terrible pain with my gallbladder..in fact I was soooooooooo afraid to have the surgery I put it off for TWO YEARS!! I can believe I lived with that horrible pain for sooooooo long...I would definetly talk to your doc and tell them how unbearable the pain is and hopefully they will get you in much sooner..good luck and keep us posted!! You will feel soooooooo much better soon.. Dawn |
I have no experience with gall bladder problems. I'm just sending heart-felt get well wishes :ghug: |
Good luck with your doctor! I really feel for you - constant pain is terrible. Keep us posted, and I'll pray for an earlier date for your surgery, Judy |
I'm so sorry you are in pain. You are such a young lady! |
just a little update.. i went to see my doctor today about changing the surgery date and moving it closer.. and she seemed surprised that i was complaining because i guess June 15th is close as she sees it... not so much for me... she seemed to think i was feeling sick because of my exams.. and thought she'd give me tylenol 3... i told her i didn't want it.. i was studying for exams and needed to be coherant... i feel like she is useless.. she didn't care that i go through the day not eating in order to avoid the pain.. so ... i guess i'll try and make it through two more months of eating very little.. not too sure how that is going to go.. i have a feeling i'll end up in emerg before the surgery date.. maybe they will just take it out then. |
No Fun I'm sorry :( to hear that you are in so much pain."PAIN" is not fun. Try to think positive (it will be gone after your sugery). |
Wow...so sorry to hear what they are putting you through! They seriously think June 15th is SOON? Are they out of their minds? As you know I am going through the same thing you are down to the eating a few bites of something per day so I do know how miserable you are and I am so sorry they are making you wait the way they are. I saw my surgeon yesterday and I have a surgery date for next Monday to have mine removed. Thinking of you having to wait out another 2 months makes me feel horrible... |
!!!! is this for gaull (sp?) stones?? I have had this pain many times.. went to the er and everything.. turns out I have a sludge which is a step before stones.. let me know.. I was perscribes a med that didn't get rid of the pain completely.. but helped a lot considering that fact that I LOVE hot sauce and COULD/WILL not give up.. let me know.. either PM me or if you feel comfortable.. post it here.. in the morning I will take a look at my pain meds and will let you know what it is.. that way, you can tell your doctor to write you a perscription for this.. it is awesome in helping the pain go away.. and the best part is that it is not dependant or in no way a musscle relaxant.. so you won't feel drowsy |
