Chantix Gina, I saw my ex husband at a wedding last month and he was a very heavy smoker. He told me he has been off cigarettes 2 months with the Chantix and he has tried everything! I am thinking about trying it as well. Good luck with your quit - I know how hard it can be!!! You can do it! Jackie |
My mom was supposed to start those pills today. My dad told me about them but I don't know if she did start them yet or not. You are making the right decision! |
Gina, I hope you're having better luck than I am. I was able to cut way, way down, but I don't know how much longer I can take the nausea. It's getting to where it is constant now. I may give it another day or two, but if it doesn't stop I will have to stop taking Chantix. It's so hard to function when I'm feeling my tummy just roll. Are you having any problems with it? |
i just started having a headache this morning, then i ate something and i feel better, but im only on my second week on chantix... i have only one more pack of ciggies left and im done forever i hope,,im not buying anymore,, if i get the urge, i have nicotrol i can puff once in a while if its that bad,, im gonna freak out. but i really have to do this,, i really do or im going to die....i dont feel good anymore or i cant remember when i felt good and healthy... you can do it... do it with me ok? |
I'm trying. I'm on my 11th day. I don't feel the urge hardly ever, but this nausea is just getting the best of me. I'm not sure what nicotrol is, but since I don't really have that much of an urge, I don't think I need it. The nausea and bad taste in my mouth is almost unbearable at times. I've thought about just finishing going cold turkey, but I'm afraid I'll go back to smoking more. I just can't stand this nausea, but I'm gonna keep going for a little while yet. I did check the web-site to see if they had any suggestions, but all it says is most people get over it. I sure hope I do and soon!! |
My hubby quit a 4 pack a day habit 10 years ago, cold turkey. If he could do it, you can do it with or without the Chantix. Hope the Chantix helps you and you can quit for good!!!! I know hubby is much healthier today because he stuck it out in '97. His last cigarette was just before midnight Dec. 31, 1997. |
Gina.......how are you doing? I just couldn't take the nausua any more. I quit taking the pill of a morning and only take the one at night. I haven't had a smoke since Wednesday morning. It's really hard at times, but if I keep busy, I'm okay. Not sure how hubby is doing, I haven't asked him, but I haven't seen him smoke in 3 days. Hopefully he's done too. I just don't want to bring it up here at home and start the urge again, I have it bad enough anyway. Hope you're doing good! |
thanks babe for thinking about me,, im smoke free as of the minute i woke up this morning... yippey. i finished my last cig. last nite on the way home from a dinner around 930.. had to finish it couldnt throw it away..alot of the urges went away, i just have to stop thinking about it, thats all... i was getting nauseaus, but took, aspirns and ate and it helped me.. im sorry you got sick from it... im so glad your not smoking.. we can do this. we surely can.... yes yes yes.... im trying so hard... |
I'll try not to post too often about it...but yes...we can do this...I have a water bottle that's half full of water with five or six butts in it, and if that don't make you want to quit, nothing will...LOL Good luck, I know we can do it!! |
Good luck Gina , you can do it!!! When you are smoke free for a few days and someone walks by you that smokes it will about knock you over. You will be thinking"I can't belive I walked around smelling so foul and all the money I spent on perfume was over powered by that horrible smell. |
Good luck Gina! It's the healthiest thing you can do for yourself. I stopped on the patch about 15 years ago and felt like a different person. I'm still really healthy (knock on wood). Keep us posted. |
I finally had to stop Chantix after the second week because of the nausea also. I could concentrate at my job it was so bad. It made me want to hurl just thinking about taking two a day after what the single doses were doing to me. I read in the earlier post that she was taking them only at night. I wonder what the outcome was for her? Was it more bearable? I still have almost a whole box. I also heard something about a person breaking the pills in half and the nausea wasn't as bad. The sickness I felt could only be compared to pregnancy..'nough said. I'm not giving up on trying to quit, just looking for another route. Any ideas on these options? :) |
OMG!!!the nausea is setting in today real bad.. i just want to barf!!!.... im smoke free for 4 days now and im so sick and im at work and i cant do this crap.. we are so busy and short handed. this really stinks... i took 2 aspirins...i just want to cry |
I hope you feel better! I've been thinking about quitting too... I was reading this post and getting hopeful that maybe this stuff can help me, but you all are sick to pieces on it and Im not sure I want to do that to myself. Im going to visit my mom in 2.5 weeks and Im thinking about buying some and starting it this week so that in 2.5 weeks I won't be smoking anymore. The hardest part of quitting is how enjoyable this disgusting habit is! You really have to want to quit whole-heartedly! I quit maybe 6 years ago cold turkey for a year... then went back UGH.. shame on me! good luck to you all who are using this and working on quitting! I might join the ranks of you someday soon!!! :D :congrats: :bravo: :good job: :clapsmile :goodluck: |
Hooray For Gina! :cheer: 4th Day Smoke Free!!!!!! :cheer: We're very proud of you here. Keep up the good work, we'll be cheering for you. :) :yay_jump: :daisy: :yay_jump: |
I was taking one pill only at nighttime. If I went to bed right after I took it, I was alright. If I stayed awake longer than 45 minutes to an hour...I was so sick in my stomach. I was down to less than a 5 a day...so I quit the smokes and quit the pills. Just couldn't stand the nausea all the time. This Wednesday will be one whole week smoke free. I just don't want them anymore. When I have an urge..I get up and go do something else. I hate smoking! I won't smoke another one no matter what. Forgot to say that hubby said he is down to less than 1/2 pack a day with one week left to go on the pills. They didn't make him sick at all.....figures! |
i dont feel sick anymore.. well for now.... inm glad your doing it.. |
I know you can do it too Gina. I think I just finally reached the point where I absolutely hated it. I hated the smell, hated the people looking at me, trying to find a place to smoke where it wouldn't bother anyone...just everything. It was just too much of a pain and so were the pills. I'll say a prayer and keep my fingers crossed for you, you can do it. |
thanks for the prayers, i need them... i still want to smoke though.. its just i dont know, maybe i get bored and thats what i think about. but im trying my best. my b/f will kill me if i smoke again, but i dont listen to him anyway.. ha ha...im doing it for myself and lexi girl |
I'm really pulling for all of you who are trying to stop smoking. It's very hard, and you should all be super proud of yourselves! :bravo: |
Gina, Just wondered how you were getting along. I started the nicoderm patch yesterday and this morning had a serious struggle about whether or not to stop at the convenience store and get cigs, but I made the decision to stick with the quit. It is really hard. I haven't told too many people as I have tried and failed so many times. I hope you are doing well on the Chantix - I have heard alot of good things about it. Jackie |
hi jackie,, its not that bad,, everytime i really think i want a cig, i puff on my nicotrol for a second, it relieves the urge.. i think.. i did try the patch one time, it made me so so sick i had to leave work, and i went back to smoking... this is working cause im letting it work... of course i want one and real bad too.. i just want to stop thinking about it... will i ever be a normal non smoker.. |

I am so glad to see this post. I've been a smoker for a long long time and I've never heard of this pill. Hubby just laid his down years ago and never smoked another, I dont have his will power. But If I could take something like that I would try it. I do have to pay for them and its expensive and its just like setting fire to your money plus its not good for anyone. Not even our dogs. I have allergies and so does Maggie. Is this a prescription to get from your dr or what. My dr has never mentioned it to me and she knows I smoke. Would someone please reply here and let me know how to get this. I will tell my dr and see if she will give me a precription for it if thats how you get it. I really need to quit and just havent been able to on my own. I am the only one in my immediate family that smokes. please reply |
You can do it! Oh Gina, I know exactly how you feel - "will I ever feel like a normal non smoker". It is such an internal battle - when I smoke I feel like a complete loser and when I don't I can't stop thinking about them. And all the people who say how much we smelled, etc. we KNOW that - it is such an addiction. I was aware of all that - even standing outside of work in the cold - I already felt bad enough without people being snobby about it. I keep telling myself if smoking was so wonderful, why was I always trying to quit! Anyway, here are positive thoughts coming your way. Hang in there! I know we can beat this! Jackie:) |

The pill is called Chantix. Here is a web-site: www.chantix.com My Dr. didn't mention it to me either. We asked him. Dr. and pharmacist said it is getting rave reviews. Here it costs $116 but our insurance paid $86 of it so we only paid $30. I hope it will work for you. |
Way to go, Gina! Your boyfriend is right on this one...you really need to quit. You are so pretty, and smoking will make you wrinkle early. That would be such a shame. Stick with it. |
hows it going? well how did it work? i see you havnt posted since april, wondering if it worked for you or not.... I picked mine and hubbies chantix up today, we will start tomorrow together..i hope this works.. im afraid of the feeling sick side effect ..it sounds bad the way a few of you tell about it. and i hate feeling sick. with our insurance it only cost us each 25......we each have a pack left and hoping to not buy anymore........ question...the bad taste in your mouth..is that only if you smoke? or do the pills just do that to you? |
