smells good what do you use to keep your homes smelling good? what are you favorite products ? how much do they cost?? how long do they last get your moneys worth? i LOVE yankee buttercream candles & febreeze air effects! yankee candles has a new reed diffuser the glass oil bottle with the reeds or sticks you put in it they are supposed to scent the air,do they work? they have them at hallmark in the mall and i want to get one! :D |
Yankee candles are wonderful!!!! |
Ditto on the Yankee candles, but the one thing I love love love is the White Barn (they may only be under bath and body works now) Wallflowers with the Shore Breeze scent. This scent is hard to find, but they have it online. It smells like mens' cologne to me. |
I use the reed diffusers and I think they work wonderfully. I got a bunch on sale one day so I put them in every room..I don't know that one would fill up the house but in each room they sure do!!! I love them. |
i don't like the flowery or perfumy scents i like ones that smell like fresh fruit or something sweet being cooked. i love yankee candles but they run out i wanted soemthing that lasts longer. i have to drive 30 miles to the mall to find them now also as the town hallmark is closing down they have some on base at times but they are usually sold out. and now we have our house which is huge it takes alot for the smells to get around. i usually like to have candles always going but hubby says they are a waste of money |
Pier 1 has GREAT strong smelling jar candles for $8!! I buy them 5 at a time and they last me quite a while. I put them in my kitchen, living, bed, and bathrooms! I am a bit candle obsessed so for me it was great to find good candles at a good price! |
i used the febreze noticeables...the scent i used is morning walk & cleansing rain. i bought a bunch them @ walgreen's when they were on sale for the new set @ $5.99. ;) while i'm cooking i used glade candles of angel whispers it's a very light scent. I hope that this helps !! :p |
I like the incense from Pier 1 - the peach one:) |
I have the Airwick that goes off every 36 minutes. I also have a candle warmer that i keep on alot. I fiond the candle warmer is safer then worrying about a lit candle and it smells just as good as a buring candle. |
ive wanted to check out pier1 |
I'm not real big on using candles because for one, they are never lit when someone just drops in! :p I have been using the Alora Ambiance reed diffusers ever since moving into our new house (wow, two years ago already... time flies!). My absolute favorite one is "Uno" but my next fave is "Tre". They aren't cheap but the last time I got one (and one bottle lasts about a year - for me anyway), I found a good deal on Ebay. I recently saw that Yankee Candle has diffusers now and plan on getting my mom and MIL each one for Mother's Day because they like my diffusers so much. With candles you have to remember to light them and then remember to blow them out. If I fall asleep on the couch at night (which is often) and then wake up several hours later to go to bed, then the candle is kinda wasted.... just my thoughts on it. With the diffusers, nothing to light, nothing to think about AND it smells 24/7! I have one in my living room that smells up those three rooms that are kinda open to each other and one in my bedroom. I also have a Potter Barn diffuser (I think it's called Spice something) in the guest bathroom. Oh, and I have a little bitty vanilla scented diffuser that I got from a fundraiser my nephew did in my utility room. I love the reed diffusers, can you tell? ;) I'd love to hear if anyone has the Yankee ones before I spend the money on those gifts! |
How do you use the Alora Ambiance reed diffusers?? I have never seen them but just looked them up online....how do they work? |

Is that what you wanted to know? It may have been misleading if you were looking at a picture also that didn't show the reeds. Like I said, they are pricey BUT the amount of fragrance (24/7) that you get from these compared to how many candles you'd go through to get that..... I think it's worth it. So many places are coming out with the reed diffusers now. I do really like the Pottery Barn one I got but the Alora is my absolute favorite!! It's one of the only treats I allow myself to splurge on (got my latest one for Christmas from my husband - but purchased by me of course ;) ). |
I just bought a diffusser and I love it. It was pricey so I am looking for another one that's a little cheaper. I will check ebay. |

What kind (brand) did you get? |
I love using yankee candles, for the largest 1 here they cost 17 pounds, I think that calculates to about 30 dollars. What price do they cost in the states. I betcha they cost half the price, id be interested to know. |

How long does each diffuser last? Any scents that you recommend? |

My very favorite Alora fragrance is the one called "Uno". The Alora site says: uno. The sweetest fragrance in our collection, uno is a feminine mix of muguet, sandalwood, musk and lemon. I think it smells just like tuberose which I absolutely love. Maybe it's the sandalwood that makes it smell like tuberose, don't know. But if you're cautious, I don't think it's "overpoweringly sweet" - besides, sandlewood is not what I'd call "sweet". Not like some flowery candles that I can't stand.... I'm not much of a sweet fragrance person. My other favorite which I have in our bedroom right now is "Tre". The site says: tre. Ideal in the kitchen, tre is a warm fragrance composed of orange, mandarin, vanilla and amber. Those are the only ones that I've smelled personally so I can't give an opinion on any other fragrance. Now that I've read those fragrance descriptions again, I think it's the sandlewood in the Uno and the amber and vanilla in the Tre that draw me to them. I can tell you that I get compliments on the fragrances every time someone new comes in my house and even sometimes from the same people. I used to do the same thing at my best friend's house. She first had the Uno and I would purposely walk through that room just to smell the diffuser. Fell in love with it and had to have one (now several) in my new house! If you decide to get either of these fragrances and really hate them, we could possibly make a deal for me to take them off of your hands. I don't need any new ones right this moment but I think if you seal it back up, it would stay good. Keep that in mind. ;) |

22 oz. $22.99 14.5 oz. $19.99 3.7 oz. $9.99 reed diffuser $19.99 It's been so long since I've bought one but that sounds like about what I've seen them in stores. |
Thanks tatumsmaum. I find that when I have visited America that I can get some products there for half the price i pay here. My brother in law goes shopping about 4 times a year to the outlet shops in New York, he always gets some real bargains. |

I think $80 is a great deal if they last a year! The TRE scent sounds like something I would LOVE. I will try them! THANKS! |

Let me know how you like it! I still think $80 is a big splurge to just satisfy your sense of smell but hey.... a girl's gotta splurge on something! Be sure to look on Ebay.... I got a better deal from there when I bought some at Christmas. Never know what you'll find. If you don't find any on Ebay, this is where I've bought them before..... http://www.beautyhabit.com/alora_large.html I think maybe their shipping cost was cheap or something.... don't remember. I couldn't resist.... I did a quick search on Ebay and found this 8 oz. one which would normally be $50 plus tax and shipping. The Ebay seller is asking $39..... http://cgi.ebay.com/ALORA-AMBIANCE-T...QQcmdZViewItem. You need to compare their shipping cost to the others but it might be good. Keep in mind that's the 8 oz., not the 16 oz. Might be worth it to try the scent out. |
I use the Air Wick things that you plug in. I LOVE the clean linen scent. My boyfriend has the vanilla all over his house. I've also tried the berry; it is good, but its my least fave. |
Angie...I have a Pier 1 near me - is that where you buy the diffusers ?? and do they have like 'starter' kits ??? they sound fantastic...I've been reading up on them today ...I have to be careful what I use in my house and these sound perfect....how expensive are they ?? |
febreeze noticables. |
I just buy the warming plate for 5 dollars each, put a jar with whatever fragrance candle in it and let it melt. Lasts forever and I don't turn off the plates unless we are going somewhere for a couple of days or more. Right now I have the cucumber and sage scent candles. Smells wonderful! |

scent I use a small electric crock pot filled with Apple Cinnamon liquid pot-pourrie from Walmart $2.97 and one of those small apple wax candles put in the liquid..it makes the liquid last twice as long...it is turned on warm and needs refilling by 1/3 to 1/2 about every 7 or 8 days, I do not have it on all day..usually about 6 hrs....in the bathrooms I used the apple cinnamon plu-ins...my entire house smells like an apple pie. |
