| My daughter checked into it but I don't remember what she said it would cost other than it was expensive and for some reason $100.00 a month is stuck in my mind. They ended up going with a dedicated phone line and dial up...unfortunately there aren't too many choices when you're in the country. |

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | It is pricey. Dish network seems to be the most reasonable. They are 199.00 up front and then either 49, 69, or 79 per month depending on which pkg you choose. But I'm paying $60 for a home phone just for dialup anyways. We hardly use our home phone. Anyone know how well Satelite Internet works and how fast it is? Dial up stinks! |

| I got mine through DirecWay (DirecTV). It was expensive. I don't remember how much the modem, dish, installation, etc. cost but it I think it was around $300. They eventually changed from DirecWay to HughesNet. It was about $60 a month and was not nearly as fast as they claimed it was. It wasn't very stable either. Every time the wind blew or it rained the service went out. Sometimes for a few minutes and sometimes for hours at a time. I live in Oregon so it rains a LOT I also have satellite tv through DirecTV. I would lose the internet even when the tv wasn't affected. I thought their customer service sucked. They were either rude, didn't know how to help or they wouldn't return my calls or emails for weeks at a time. I had a lot of problems when they switched from DirecWay to HughesNet. All of our email addresses changed. I kept getting locked out of my account. It said my password was wrong even when it wasn't. Luckily that was about the time my phone company finally started offering DSL so I switched. I now pay a lost less for faster internet. I got a call from HughesNet about a month after I cancelled wanting to know why I cancelled and how they could talk me out of cancelling. When I explained it to him he offered to transfer me to a customker service person who could help with the connection speed, etc. I told them their customer service was the biggest reason I cancelled. He kept telling me how much my business meant to them and how helpful their customer service was. When I asked why it took them a month to call me after I cancelled if my business really meant that much to them he couldn't answer me. He just kept insisting he transfer me. I finally had to tell him I had been using the new service for a month and was very happy with it so I was going to hang up. His response - "Why can't I just transfer you?" My response - click |

| I had Starband for about a yr before we got highspeed, was about 70.00 a month, was ok and beat dialup. Of course when bad weather was a little temperamental. Matter of fact, would consider selling my Starband Modem.

| Big rainstorms, heavy snow. Like someone said sometimes min. sometimes an hr. Whenever that happend i would switch to dialup. Was expensive to set up, something like 1100.00. Too bad we are not closer, still have Starband antenna and modem. I moved and dont have cable here either, so i went wireless (my only option here) have you checked into that ??

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | Decided Well after my phone line was down twice this past week I decided !!! I'm canceling my home phone and I ordered Satellite Internet thru Dish Network! They were the best priced I thought. Free installation, and a 199.00 equipment rental one time fee, with a 100.00 rebate for having Dish Network Satellite TV. and then 49.95 per month. Shoot cancel my phone which was running 60+ per month and cancel my other internet service and I'm ahead per month. So now lets just hope it works well !!! |
