OMG!! I am shaking I am SOOO MAD!!! Someone just hit us!! Ok, I probably won't be more PO'd than I am right now for a long time to come!!! My husband and I were at a stop light tonight (this was just about an hour ago) and were sitting there for a few seconds when all of a sudden someone FLYS up behind us and RAMS into the back of our SUV! My mom was with us and was in the back seat and of course we all had our seat belts on, but it threw her neck forward and now her neck is hurting her. So I get out of the car STEAMING MAD (my husband was the one driving) and I go up to the car and there are 2 freaking TEENAGERS in the car just sitting there looking stupid like nothing even happened. Then I demanded to see their insurance and they started stuttering and getting nervous "acting" like they were trying to find it. They kept asking if they could move their car somewhere else and I told them NO...to stay put as you aren't supposed to move at the scene of an accident. Well anyway, I walk back over to OUR car to see if my husband is on the cell phone calling 911, and of course he is...so I look back over to their car and see the car move just a tad...so I yell over to them, "What are you doing!?!??" and one girl sticks her head out the window, nervous as heck and said, "We're trying to find our insurance card" - well two seconds later the driver starts hauling @$$ around us and TAKES OFF!!!!!!! She saw me watching her and I yelled to my husband (and I know they heard me) GET THE LICENSE PLATE NUMBER!!! So I grabbed my wallet and wrote down their license plate number on one of my blank checks  I can't even believe I got it down since they were speeding away so fast, but I did  I was just soooo mad and I knew that if I didn't write their license plate number down that that would be the end of it, nothing could be done. So anyway, the cops came and blah blah blah...well they ran their license plate number and OF COURSE they are from out of town (about 5 hours away from where we live) so the cops obviously can't just go drive by their house or anything. So they are "looking" for the car - but of course they won't find the freaking thing!! Those girls OBVIOUSLY didn't have insurance, which is why they left the scene of the accident, and who knows, they could have had drugs in the car or anything else. We have full coverage on our car and uninsured motorists, so my insurance will cover everything but I am still sooooooo steaming MAD!!! Hitting us is one thing, but fleeing the scene is an entirely different story and man am I P!$$ED!!! The cop said, "Did you yell at 'em!! I hope you did!!" LOL - I said well I don't really "yell" but they could tell I was p!$$ed because of the tone in my voice - I won't lie, I was RUDE. lol....I just can't STAND stupid little teenagers like that (no offense to anyone on here who is a teenager :p) that just say, "whatever" and take no responsibility for anything. It makes me SOOO MAD! Anyway, sorry for rambling but I just HAD to vent to someone! |
DUH...I forgot to even mention how our car is  I'm so mad I'm not even worried about the car, all I can think about is those lying little kids that took off!!   Our bumper is dented in quite a bit, and the right light that shines on our license plate is crooked and pushed in, but other than that, everything is ok. No broken tail lights or anything.... |
sounds like someone's mom or dad is going to KILL them when they find out! and just FYI, in most states, there is a new law that requires vehicles to move out of the right of way of traffic when possible... but those kids just wanted to run, that was obvious! I hope your mom is OK. d |
Yikes! I'm sorry that they got away like that. How horrible!! Maybe your local police will be able to contact the police in their town so at least they get into trouble with their parents... I sure hope something happens! |
Wow, what a nightmare! You'd think a hit and run with possible injury would warrant more from the cops. Jeze. They should be talking to their parents right now! I hope your mother's OK and that these kids are caught. Oh, and GREAT work getting the license number. |
How's your mom doing? Whiplash can hurt for days and should be checked. Geez! I'm mad for you! I'm just glad no one was seriously injured! Bet those girls took one of their parents car and didn't tell them they were going so far away! Your insurance company will track them down. Mine did when I got hit and the driver took off - Except I chased him while on the phone with the cops! Ding dong drove home! |

Anyway, I totally realised after I told them not to move that I shouldn't of done that, but I was just soooo angry, and for some reason had a GUT FEELING that they might try and take off - and sure enough, I was right   We were in the far right lane, and there was no traffic to the right of us, so I told them not to move (realising afterwords that I shouldn't of) but I just didn't want to risk them "saying" that they were going to go park somewhere else, and then taking off. Looks like it didn't matter because they took off anyway! |

My husband said the exact same thing as you....our insurance company will do everything they can to try and find them. My husband was on the phone with the dispatcher and of course after they took off all she told him to do was get the license plate number, not chase them - but I told him I didn't care what she said, I told him to chase them anyway - because I knew the cops sure as hell wouldn't ever catch them! Of course by the time my husband FINALLY listened to me, another car pulled out in front of us (which put them BEHIND the car that hit us) so we couldn't see where they sped off to  I was SO ticked off! We sooo could have caught them if we would have went after them as soon as they sped away from the scene. I am just SO ANGRY!!   |
oh my goodness, I thought is this Brooke writing about a hit and run . . man, did not realize even teenagers have that kind of thinking    I mean, I would just crawl inside my shell and wait for the cops but WOW, is all I can say about those KIDS . . . they are so much in big trouble! And even if you have full coverage, you better not get it from your Insurance. . . .get it out of theirs   I hope your mom is okay. Whiplash could stay on for a long time especially since your mom is no longer young. My mom was in an accident many, many moons away but to this day, it sometimes still hurt, despite going through major therapy :( . . . . |
Well, those kids should get in a ton of trouble, being that your Mom was injured. Leaving the scene of an accident with injuries is much more severe than a fender bender. It might be hard to prove who was driving though:( I hope that your Mom isn't hurt too badly and that those kids get what's coming to them. Glad y'all are okay for the most part! |
I can't believe how layed back the police officer was:mad: Did you yell at them he asked:confused: That's not your job it's his. I hope these kids are caught and rebrimanded and owe you an appology for leaving the scene of an accident. Sounds to me these kids need some kind of punishment. Community service might just do it. I hope your Mom is ok and her neck is no longer hurting but whip lash is very painful and can last for sometime. Thank heavens it wasn't worse but it certainly was bad enough. Carol & Buddy |

And you know, it's funny because what you said is exactly what I told my husband. If I EVER hit someone like that, regardless of whether I had insurance or not (which I'm SURE they didn't) - I would be WAY too scared to leave the scene of an accident - I'd much prefer to just be given the darn no insurance ticket rather than take the risk of being caught later on after leaving the scene of an accident! Although, as I was saying last night, they could have had other reasons for running. Maybe they had a warrant out for their arrest, maybe they had drugs in their car or had done drugs that night, WHO KNOWS. But hopefully, since I did get their plate number, they will end up being caught. Lord knows my insurance company is going to go everything in their power to find these girls...so HOPEFULLY  at least the police department in the town that THEY are from will be on the lookout for them  I have yet to talk to my mom today, but am going to call her in just a little while to see how she is doing. And let me tell you, if her neck is REALLY messed up because of this, it is going to put a WHOLE NEW level of anger in me!!!!   |

And I hope like HECK that they DO get into a ton of trouble for this - because it makes me even MORE angry to think of them getting away with it scott free  I just talked to my insurance company a little while ago and they are working on finding them. They said that they will let me know what happens and are sending someone out today to look at my car and get an appraisal on the damage  Even if they don't have insurance (I HIGHLY DOUBT they do) my Uninsured Motorist will pay for fixing my car, and if my mom is hurt and needs to see a doctor, well...I have medical coverage on my car insurance that will pay for that too. Darn kids - I wish they were right in front of my face...'cause boy do I have a few words for them!!!   |

I really do hope they are caught and I hope it scares the living daylights out of them, they deserve it. The officer did tell me that should they catch them, BECAUSE they left the scene of an accident, that it will be much MORE for them than "just a ticket" - which I kind of figured  Plus, they will get a no insurance ticket on top of it all, should they not have any insurance, which is what I'm betting on. I just hope that they are able to find them...I will be so relieved! |
I'm so sorry. When the Police run the tag, they'll be able to tell who it was. It will just take time to locate the vehicle and people. Of course, you know they probably won't have insurance. It isn't fair, is it? These people are given a free ride. |

Any news on the police finding out the owner of the vehicle???? |

OMG Brooke, so sorry to hear about the mess! I hope your mom is going to be ok. Gosh I too would have been SOOOOO upset. They have the nerve to take off. Thank goodness you took their license down and they track them down. These kids REALLY need to learn a lesson and be punished, talk about immature....a hit a run will really stay on their records. I hope they are BANNED from driving for awhile. and I sure hope their parents (who obviously didn't teach them better) shell out the $200 deductibe. This is so UNFAIR to you. They need a good spanking on their toush. If I were the parents, I'd be livid. |
OMG! I don't blame you for being mad at all! I'm so very glad the accident was not any worse than what it was and hope and pray your mom is going to be okay. The kids who hit you showed a total lack of care or concern for you, your mom, or your husband by fleeing the scene like they did. Now when they are caught (and I have every belief they will be), they should face tickets for leaving the scene of an accident, hit and run, no insurance (if they don't have any), and I wouldn't be surprised if the driver is also slapped with a wreckless driving charge. Being teenagers, their insurance (if any) just soared through the roof!!! Don't be surprised if they called mom and dad and said the car was hit while parked or someone backed into them and left the scene - what a shock it will be to parents when they find out otherwise when the cops call. Keep us posted!! |
Brooke, So sorry this happened to you. I can't believe the police here in Texas. I had a similar incident where I was stopped at a train crossing. when the train cleared and it was good to go (I was the last in a long line of cars) a pickup truck came barrelling into the back of me! Thank goodness I was able to steer away from the car in front of me or (as the policeman informed me) that would have been my fault and responsibility even though I was pushed by the pick up. I called the police and since he didn't see the accident happen he said he couldn't do anything!! Can you believe that? It was a hispanic man with no insurance that hit me. I kept saying but, he doesn't have insurance you CAN give him a ticket for that! After about the 3rd of 4th time of me insisting he finally gave him one (or at least pretended to). Of course the man gave a false address and my insurance company had to pay for everything, resulting in my rates going up even though it wasn't my fault. Somethings just aren't fair. I am just glad you didn't have any worse injuries. But believe me, I can sure understand you being mad!!! |

But oh my goodness....are you KIDDING me!?!??!  Now in that situation, I think I would have had smoke pouring out of my ears!! The police officer saying that he couldn't DO ANYTHING....omg, now THAT is just INSANE! What the heck are you supposed to do, PLAN when these things are going to happen, pick up your cell phone and CALL the cops and tell them to come WATCH! Oh that just makes me furious. And for it to be YOUR fault for hitting the car in front of you (should it have occurred) because of someone that hit YOU from the back is just completely crazy! When I read that my mouth just dropped. That is COMPLETELY and ENTIRELY out if your control!!  OMG...just INSANE! And for YOU to have to TELL her officer to give that guy a ticket for having NO INSURANCE...OMG, are you SERIOUS!?!? What is WRONG with these cops! Do they just not give a crap or WHAT!! Oh man, reading what you just posted makes me even more TICKED OFF that I already am! It just totally frustrates me how the "laws" here in Texas work sometimes! |

The insurance adjuster just came to our house and did an estimate on the body damage. All $520 dollars worth    As he was taking pictures of my car, he was asking me about the little FREAKS that hit us  and even he said that he is going to keep an eye out for their car, LOL!! Lucky for me though - and I didn't even think of this before  my brother is an AWESOME, very well known mechanic and knows someone who owns the best body shop in town - so I am going to call my brother this evening when he gets off of work and tell him to get in touch with Mr. Matula! (the body shop guy) and see if he can't do the work on my car for the EXACT price of what the insurance is wanting to pay - that way I DON'T have to cough up the $200 deductible  I know this can be done...so at least THAT'S good news...now if only we get MORE good news saying they caught those little...... well that's all I am going to say! LOL  |
We had a client who hit someone and drove off. Someone heard them talking about it and turned them in. Police went to their house and contacted the parents, they charged the kid with a hit and run. They'll find who hit you sooner or later. Just a matter of time. P.S. I'm glad everyone is ok. |

I would be pissed too! If they were teens they were probably nervous as hell, maybe they weren't supposed to be so far away from home..or maybe they weren't supposed to take out mommy or daddy's car? That could be a reason as to why the sped off. Who knows though. Hopefully justice will be served! Can't the cops contact the cops in the town of where the teens are from? I would check into that. I hope your Mom's gonna be o.k as well. |
i think you can still do something if they were not there with the license. i know my bro in law hit a car at the beach from behind and the didnt ticket him then cause he left not a hit and run butthey just said yeah yeah its ok and left and the guys turned it into their insureance along with the info they exchanged and the santa barbara or whoever sent him a ticket in the mail for unsafe speed with a trailer and for conditions and such and he was like what they didnt even site me then but they upheld it and he had to pay a fine |
