Pierced ears?
 

My GD wants to get a third hole in her ears (she's 11)...my DD says she has too many holes in her head already & no more....That got me thinking about the subject of pierced ears...it was such a BIG deal when I was young(er)... now babies have their ears done....Lets take a trip down memory lane for a moment :D ...when I was about 13 I wanted to do mine so bad ( of course I had to fit in)...dad says "no way"......so what's a defiant teen to do...ya , you guessed it....I did it anyway..he never looks at my ears anyway:rolleyes: .... I couldn't drive so there where these "self-piercing ear-rings" at the local drug store....I put them on my ears... they where circles & one end was sharp & I have to squeeze them every day til they eventually work their way through:eek: Would that be considered torture now a days :rolleyes: I finally got my holes...& dad didn't really care after the fact.... When did you pierce yours & was it a big deal?

I was a bad girl too and had a friend pierce mine with a needle and ice cube. She kept chickening out when she'd hear the popping noise and it took forever. My mom had said I couldn't have it done too but..... you know how it goes. I hadn't asked in a while so I used the excuse I didn't think she would care now that I was older (a whole 16 years old!).

LOL You reminded me of ME. I pierced mine way way back when I was young (14) by putting ice cubes on them and sticking the needle in myself....I did multiple piercings - it was a HUGE deal to me back then.

then the whole world seemed to be wearing 2 in each ear :( and for years I did too... I still can wear 3 in one ear if I want to but usually don't. In my opinion - ear piercing is minor compared to what some kids want to do these days...

Be glad it isn't her NOSE or her eyebrow or other 'places' - for some reason I've just never liked that 'look'

I got mine done when I was about 13 or 14 I dont remember exactly. Anyway I wore earrings that were too heavy and it ripped my hole. I had new holes put in about 6 months ago. I had My Daughters done when she was six but it scared her and so every time I was going to put in earrings on her she thought it was going to hurt. Anyway so she never wears earrings and I think her holes have closed up.

I got my first holes when i was 6. I got a second hole I think as an adult.

My oldest has hers double pierced on one in the cartlidge. My youngest, 16, has hers double pierced and wants her cartlidge pierced.

My mother did mine when I was a baby. It's not a big deal in my family and they are usually done when you are...a baby. However, it was a big deal when I got my second holes done and too much scar tissue formed around the hole. I then had to have surgery on my ears so they could remove the excess scar tissue. Not fun!

OUCH!! These stories are giving me the creeps! How could you stick a needle through yourself!? I have my ears pierced, but my parents had them done when I was really little! The person who did it was quite stupid and my holes are quite uneven, but it's not really noticeable.

UGH - how could you stick things through your ears!? :eek:

My mom has my ears done when I was a baby. Then was I was about 13, I got a second hole in ear ear. When I was a little older, I FINALLY begged my mom to let my get one in my top right ear (cartlidge). When I was 19, I got 3 holes but I thought it looked too "busy" so I let them close (there's no scar).

I was 18 and my mother had a rippin fit! :eek: "How could you go behind my back and do this horrible thing." My girlfriend did it with a needle and an ice cube and they are crooked to this day! I let my daughter have her's done at 10 and then a second hole at 12. When she got a tiny little stud in her nose at 20, I winced, but it's cute.

when i was i think 16 i got me ears pierced then i got two more.
then two more again.. i have 6 holes in my ears.. 3 on each side.
i wear diamond studs on the two last holes and on the first holes
i change earings.. i wear hoops or any long hanging earing... looks good

Chachi.. when you mentioned it about ripped holes it reminded me of the time when it was cool to where hoops... the bigger the better. I was brushing my hair & woops.. the ear ring went flying..after a couple times of that I now have oblong holes... so I can't where any that hang on a wire ...they have to be on a post or they look uneven.

Tink's mom.. that was funny!! I actually do like the TINY stud on the side of the nose..but it would look ridiculous on me ...I like the three holes in the ear when there's a tiny chain going from the bottom hole to the top of the ear.

If you have little girls i think that iis the best time to have it done when they are babies. I wish I would have did my daughters then. We thought it would be best to wait untill she wanted it done and atn 6 she did. It just scared he so bad she wont let me put earrings in

My mom wouldn't let me pierce my ears until I was 18. She had a lot of problems with getting her ears infected when she was younger... I waited until the day after I graduated from high school. I was only 17, but my grandparents signed the waiver for me. My grandmother (on my dad's side) thought that it was "Ridiculous" that I couldn't get my ears pierced! :)

I now have my cartilage and belly button pierced. I still only have one hole in each ear done.

By the way, my younger sisters were able to get their ears pierced at 14 and 12 years old. My mom took them... Oh the joys of being the oldest!!! :)

i got my ears pierced when i was 13, than i got second hole at 15 than my third hole at 17, no big deal with my mom she went with me each time.
i got my daughter ears pierced at 6 month old, she 5 now and she wear her ear rings everyday.

I didn't get my ears pierced until my 11th birthday and I remember it to this day! It hurt like hell (can I say that here??)!! :eek: For that exact reason I had my two daughters' ears pierced when they were babies. Yes, they cried for a second but it's mostly just a startle reaction, I think. They are 10 and 12 years old now and still almost exclusively wear the "piercing earrings" that kinda lock on. There's just a much smaller chance of the earrings coming out and getting lost that way and with these, they can sleep in them and not have to worry about it. They do occasionally change them to something different but usually just wear their "every day ones" (they are little cz's). I think piercing them at such a young age kept them from messing with them and I also had no problems with them pulling on other women's earrings when they were being held. Maybe it was because the fascination of something different wasn't there since they had them too... I don't know.

I also did the ice cube and needle thing to put a second hole in just my left ear when I was about 13 and my parents pitched a fit! I can actually still put an earring in it now but don't. I'm not sure what I will do if one of my girls comes to me wanting to pierce something else one day.

i was last in my family to have mine done then i had three in each ear and one up top on cartilidge . 11 i think 3 is too may holes she can wait utnil she's 18 and pierce whatever she wants. my girl had hers done at 3 1/2 months old she still has them i bought her some little diamonds she's almost 4 now but i think 1 hole is enough for a child.

Well this thread has brought back memories for sure.
My eldest daughter at 13 wanted hers done. Hubby and I
said NO. When she turned 16yrs I took her to a doctor
to get it done so my hubby wouldn't say no. Well of course
one ear became infected. So much for a doctor doing it.
My husband was sure she would loose her ear! I got yelled
at for days:confused:

My youngest got hers done on the Ocean City Boardway
along with me when she was 10yrs old and nothing happened
to either of us. Hubby was more realistic at this point.

Be lucky thats all she wants pierced!LOL.Im 28 now and have my ears pierced 8 x's and i have various other piercings as well.I was 6 when i got my ears pierced the 1st time and that was with a potato and a big needle by my grandma in her kitchen.I got my second holes when i was 12 and the 3rd when i was 13 and all the other's after the age of 18.I dont think normal lobe piercings are that big of a deal anymore.

The ice cube & needle thing was big when I was young also but I just couldn't do it... that's weird, I can't do the needle which would have been over in minutes & done by someone else but I could do the squeezing for weeks by me.:confused:

Those earings your talking about sound like torture!!!I would not be able to handel it!

I got my first ear piercings at age 13. My parents said no, so I bought self piercing earrings and did the deed myself. They were hoops with a sharp point on one end and a loop on the other. Each day you squeeze just a bit until one day you have a hole. That was pure torture! Over the next 33 years, I had 9 more put in each ear for a total of 10. All of the rest of them I did myself with a needle and an ice cube, except for one set I did at a jewelry store. The store set were the only ones that got infected. Today, my ear piercings are adorned with very conservative earrings, mostly posts and a few very thin hoops. They are a great ice-breaker/conversation starter and I get more questions about them! I had a thought a month or so ago that maybe I am getting too old to have this many, then I thought, nah!

I had mine done at 5 yrs old. My aunt was a nurse and used a needle and thread!! I still remember how painful that was!!

I had my daughters done at 6 weeks, and my two sons at 5 yrs old. They're all in their late teens now and they said they are glad I had it done when they were younger because they don't remember how painful it was. :)

During my daughter's early teenage years, she wanted to get her ears double pierced. I told her to wait til she's 18 to see if she really wants an extra hole in her ear. She's now almost 20 and doesn't really care to have it done anymore.

What? It's no longer "cool" to wear big hoops? That's about all I have. LOL

OMG, I had 3 on each ear too, and a belly lol. When I was growing up, dad said no and I did it anyways. I don't think these are a big deal really. It's not like a permanent thing.

wow i got my first hole when i was a baby i belive my mom said 1 month

then i got my second hole when i was like 13 io think

then i got my third i did myself and i was like 18 i think

but i got my nose done when i was 17

my bellybutton when i was 18

and then i got the middle of my lobes done when i was 19

then the top of my ears done when i was 19

and then i decided that was boring and i took all out except for my original 3 holes

and then this past year i have been slowly stretching my first hole with plugs, i wont go enormous though dont worry i just want a slightly bigger hole.

i was going to go get my lip done but it is not a safe here at work so i put it behind me and moved on with my three holes

now my daighter she got hers done by muah when she was a week old and she has never touched them or messed with them and she loves them she likes to change earrings like me all the time, soo here comes another one.

Me to only i wimped out cause it was to painful. I think i got them done proffesionaly when i was about 18.

Oops I forgot to mention in my earlier post that I also have my navel pierced.

Gracie, I see you went through the same torture I did lol ..I thought I was the only one who used those.

bornnygurl, I wore the hoops that went from the ear to the shoulder, I could hula hoop w/ those. lol The hoops now are much more reasonable...didn't mean hoops weren't in any more just nicer sized :)

It looks like a lot of you had them done as a baby or as a preteen...& a lot have used the dreaded needle.

OMG I did the very same thing! My parents had a fit. Of course my father was a minister and thought make-up, jewlery, and short skirts would damn me to hell. I had to fight to be allowed to keep the earings in long enough to peirce through the ear lobe. The ice cube and needle thing just scares me!
I have been tempted to get my eyebrow peirced but I think I'm too foar over the hill for that. Sigh
