I have 3 in each ear, but I did not get my second and third set until I was an adult, plus my navel pierced. My 5 yr old daughter just got her ears pierced and she looks so cute with her little earrings in. I think one set of earrings is great for a little girl. When she turns 18 and wants more than that is up to her, but until then it is only one set. |
When I was a kid I wanted my ears pierced and always asked my mom and her answer was always not until you are 16. When I was nine I went to live with my dad and he asked if I wanted my ears pierced. I said yes but mom said I had to wait until I was 16. He laughed and asked me again, "do you want your ears pierced?" I said yes and he and my step mom took me the next day. Six months later I was back with my mom and she was livid!! I waited until my daughter asked to have hers done. She was 6. We let her pick her earrings and she was thrilled. She cried a little when it was first done, and she almost didn't let them do both ears, but when we said ok to her not getting the second ear done until later she flipped out and said do it now I don't wanna be lopsided! lol |
My ears were pierced as a baby but I got my second hole at 16, and third hole at 19. It was a big deal, especially when I got my belly button pierced at 18. My family is very traditional and hates piercing, tatooes, etc. but the ears were an easy one to talk them into, the belly button they didn't know about and were FURIOUS when they found out. But like everything else, they got over it. The belly button ring was the only rebelious thing I did  |
Lou.. It's funny about what is or isn't " age appropriate" lol...What was fine in your 20's may or may not work as well as in your 40's or 50's ;) .....then you get in that "in between age" where you have to say "can I still pull this off or am I gonna look foolish?" stage. I do that a lot now a days :D Willow..That's funny about your dad..any thing to stick it to mom lol.. but I guess you got the benefit from it :) that's cute about your daughter..even at such a young age she wanted to look good. lol |
i got my belly button piecered too when i got divorced.... im crazy |
Thank god you didn't shave your head !!:D |
I had my ears pierced late late... I was in my early 20s, and just went with an impulse. I wanted to wear those fancy earrings to a party just a week later and had my friend yank those fresh 'store' piercings out -OMG it hurt. And one was stuck inside. Because of that, my ears took forever to heal, funny thing is, I don't even wear earrings anymore, maybe the holes closed up already... I actually got my navel pierced first, compared to the ears, that was like nothing... |
I begged and pleaded with my mom until she finally let me get them done when I was about 13. Then I went and got second holes put in (without her permission) when I was 15. She was not thrilled. When I got my third holes done when I was 17 (again without permission) she was past caring I think. She was probably thinking 'well, at least it's not a tattoo'. Heh heh, I did THAT to her the next year. ;) |

My mom wouldnt let me get earrings either! (she had a bad experience back in the "old days"..) So finally when I was 17 I begged my dad to sign the parent consent form.. he did.. and when she got home i put my hair up and shes like "WHATS THAT!?" then instead of getting mad at me, she and my dad got into a HUGE argument.. all i heard was yelling from my mom and my dad saying "SHE FORCED ME!" hahaha  |
My mom pierced my ears when I was 12 using ice cubes a needle and a potato. Then at 19 I went to a jewelry store with my boyfriend to get a second set and while there we jokingly sat down and picked out an engagement ring which he purchased later and gave to me (we got married 6 months later and are still married-27 yrs in June). Anyway...at about 35 I got my naval pierced. Thats it (oh, and a couple tatoos but I guess thats another thread). My daughters each have two holes in each ear lobe and one cartilage piercing and their navals. One also pierced her tongue at 17 which she managed to keep hidden for about two weeks. As much as I wasn't happy about it, I figured that at least when she tired of it she could just remove it and it will grow shut quickly. She's almost 20 and it's still there! I'm glad that neither of them have pierced anything on their faces. |
Yikes, some of these stories make me hurt. :) I would totally recommend though for anyone having a young kid done or anyone who is afraid, to have both sides done at the same time. I know when I did my youngest ones, she was 5 or 6 and we got one side done and almost couldn't get the other side done because she was freaking out so bad. My friend had to hold her and we were both crying so bad and swore we'd never do it to anyone every again. I've seen that happen too, when the kid is so wigged that the parents have to come back in a few weeks to do the second one. |
should we???? 2 Attachment(s) Ok - hubby listened to m reading all the posts.. First me, I think I was 13 or 16. Nothing major mom took me to the store and I got to pick the ones I liked. Since then in my early 20's I had my cartilage done in one ear. when I got my divorce I got my tongue and belly button done. Last Christmas I went to Wallys and stopped by the jewelery counter to get a second hole in my ears. - Oh - I lost my belly button and tongue when I had surgery a few years ago to remove a tumor. Hubby says he did his himself with a potato or ice (he couldnt remember). Now... our little Sedona Rose is 9 weeks old and hubby and I have debated on waiting for her to want it to get it done. Mom wants us to wait until shes 13 but now I keep thinking when she gets older she may just come home with it done one day and there goes all our waiting. Hate to make grandma mad and not wait but... |
wow hearing all these stories are just crazy! i'm glad i never had to go through anything like this :) i had my ears pierced when i was a baby.. i had my 2nd set when i was 10 and then when i was 12 i wanted the one on the cartilage and my parents didn't mind at all, actually my brother worked at the earring place and he did it... when i was 15 i got my belly button pierced and my mom and uncle came with me, but it ripped off at school when we were at a retreat hiking.. it caught on my pants, but it didn't hurt cause i guess i hadn't noticed.. i got it redone about a year later, and i also had gotten my 1st tattoo when i was 17 on the small of my back, then on my 18th birthday got another one and also got my lower lip pierced (towards the right side, it was kinda cute), but then i went to nursing school right after highschool and took them out, foradd in that i got my tongue and nose pierced too. i'm 21, and only have 4 piercings, and i barely wear earrings though, but i never take out the one in my cartilage.. i sometimes forget it's there. my daughter is now 8 months old (on the 5th), and i had her ears done when she was 3 months, they doctor okayed it since she had gotten her immunizations. in my family, earrings are not a big deal.. well i guess tattoo's aren't either since my brother's and myself have them.. from the sounds of it, i sound like i'm a tattoo's and pierced up girl, but in all actuallity i'm not! im a regular girl, actually i'm a nurse now so i'm very professional looking (or so i try!) :) i think i'd let my daughter get her ears pierced (2nd ones) if she wanted them.. better her ears than a tattoo or her navel or something like that right? :p |
My mum didn't mind me getting my ears pierced at all. She even paid for both holes in each ear - I got them done a couple of years apart I must have been 10 or 11 when I got the first pair and about 13 then second pair. I only ever wear earrings in the first pair of holes now. I think you can always take a piercing out and the hole will close up. It's no big deal. The three tattoos however - Mum was really SERIOUSLY unimpressed. I have been thinking of getting a yorkie tattoo lately tho. But I believe that could be a thread all of its own. |
