You are such a caring a responsible mom! Your reasons for re-homing are personal and they are valid to you and thats all that matters. In your defense I want to say that I am so impressed with you as a person. Your main goal was to find THE BEST home for your furbabies, so they could be loved and cared for forever. Through all of our talks you were always looking for what was best for both of your girls. It was very clear to me that you were putting the dogs first. I could tell how hard the re-homing was for you, and through it all your compassion and unselfishness shined through. Your dogs came first and you made sure of that. You did what was best for them even if that meant it made you sad!:(

There are some re-homers on here who are genuinely looking for what is best for their dog and I applaud them for that. However, some of the other ads (other than breeders and people having tough times) are re-homing because they are giving up. The funny thing is that it is usually the owner who is not trained and behaving, not the dog. They decided that thier cute puppy grew too big, too hyper, too defiant, not potty trained soon enough, etc. Basically they decided to stop trying and it had nothing at all to do with giving the dog a good (better) home. Those are the people who don't care about thier animals...you are re-homing your dogs so that they can have a better life.

I wanted to search for this thread and I did reread it and I wanted to say im sorry. To some it may sound like my post's was against rehoming period.... and Im not. I just get so upset for the animals that it makes me sad and crazy. If you have a pet that needs rehomed dont let this thread or my post keep you from doing it. I reread my post and what I was trying to say in it that rehoming is wrong. But not for everyone . I was talking about breeders a that have caged females and ones that dont care for their animals or where they go after they retire, and for the pet owners that could care less, all they worry about is getting their money back. I do understand there are people pet owners and breeders out there that have to rehome for some reason and they are doing what they feel is best for those animals. So again im sorry if I did not word my post right.

In my opinion a lot of people think of dogs as pets(not people). If a pet isn't working out for you then you find it a new home and try again. All dogs are not the same even in the same breed. I wanted a cocker spaniel when I was a teenager. We got one and it was the most hyper thing ever. Needless to say we rehomed her. I couldn't see us owning a dog we didn't like for 10 plus years, who would be happy with that? Not us or the dog.

I do not think of my pets as people, it was not the way I was raised. I do commit to them though. I have a chihuahua who is not a great pet and hates kids(I have two) but I know if I got rid of her she'd be put to sleep. I try to make her as happy as possible and I have to crate her whenever kids friends come over or my nieces. She has bit my husband, she has bit my children...if she bites the wrong person she will be put to sleep and I'll have no say in it. She loves me though so she's usually in my lap, she's a fat spoiled chihuahua and it's just her nervous personality that doesn't make her people friendly. She never was.

Rehoming a pet is not the same as taking it to a shelter(kill shelter) you are trying to find that animal a home that will make them and the person happy. Heck, you can get married and not have to be with that person for the rest of your life, to me it's the same way with a pet(says the person who's been married for 16 years ;)

Forgot to add, my husband considers our yorkie our 'daug - ter'. She has the most human characteristics of any animal I've ever owned. She talks and pouts and plays, it's wonderful. I do realize though that every yorkie isn't like that. I've read enough problem threads to know this so I do consider myself very lucky.

I don't like when people re-home their PETS because they don't like their size or color or because the dogs pees/poops all over the house. If that were the case for me, then my Cali would have been gone a long time ago. Let me explain ...

Cali is my ANGEL. I love this little girl so much that my heart hurts when I think about anything bad EVER happening to her! She fits in so well with our family. Codie and Tia ADORE her and protect her. They're always taking turns cleaning her. :D

BUT ... Cali can be a handful too. :D She pees on ME almost every day. It's an accident and it's not her fault. I've taken her to our vet and to a few others for second and third opinions. The problem is Cali has a very TINY BLADDER. Cali is only 1 lb and 2 ounces, so natuarlly this explains why her bladder is so freakin tiny. She cannot hold in her pee for a long period of time. So if she falls asleep on my lap, she will sometimes pee in her sleep. She'll even do this while she's awake. Do I get mad? Sometimes. Do I ever yell at her? NO! Because it's not her fault.

I was telling a friend about this problem and she said maybe I should find a new home for Cali? WHAT??!!??!! NEVER!! Cali is my baby and she could pee on my head every day for the rest of her life but she's not going anywhere!! I don't care if she's never potty trained, she's MINE!!

Do you know how many times I've had to get up in the middle of watching tv and take and shower and change my clothes because Cali peed on me? Just yesterday (for example) Cali peed on me twice. Jim and I had the day off (President's Day) and we were home from work. We pretty much stayed home and relaxed with the babies all day. The first time Cali and I fell asleep on the couch and I woke up to a wet shirt -- so off I went to shower and change. Then later on that evening, Jim and I were eating dinner and Cali was sitting on my lap and she peed. Did I beat her? NO! LOL!! It's just something I have to deal with and I hope it will get better with time.

Some people every suggested that I limit her water in take. NEVER! That would be cruel and unfair to do just because her peeing on me is an inconvenience. Why should she suffer because of an accident?

The point I'm trying to make is some people get so upset over POTTY TRAINING issues but have you ever had a dog pee on YOU 3 or 4 times in one single day? Well I have and my baby isn't going anywhere! To me, it's no big deal. I try to take her every hour to the wee wee pad in case she has to pee but she can't help having these accidents. I won't punish her by giving her away simply because she was born with a tiny bladder. She didn't ask to be that way. It's not her fault and she tries so hard to be a good girl. :p

Also, we have to be VERY careful with Cali because of her small, delicate size. Her vet bills are WAY more money than Codie and Tia. So this in combination with her bladder issues would make some people consider re-homing her (according to a lot of people I've talked to). I've heard the comments like, "I would NEVER keep a dog that peed on me every day." Well I say to them, you're not worthy of her in the first place!! :D

PS - I am NOT in any way talking about breeders re-homing retired breeding dogs. YorkieRose expalined her situation VERY WELL and I commend her. I would be proud and lucky to ever be trusted with one of her retired babies. :thumbup:

hahaha you know the situation first hand girly! :D It makes me laugh when people get so pissed because their dog has accidents on the floor ... what about your dog having daily accidents on YOU??!! :D It's just something I had to accept. If it gets better, that would be awesome. If it doesn't ever get better, then I'm ok with that too. This doesn't change how I feel about Cali or how much I love her.

Aww Gina, your Lexie is a sweetie. She's such a good girl. :D She's welcome to come spend time with her Auntie Jen any time! :D

the weather is getting nicer so we will get together real soon.... you can come to me, they all can pee pee on my carpet, i need to get rid of it

Jim and I just this weekend ripped up the bedroom carpet because of Cali's potty issues. We're going to put down tile. We have tile everywhere else (except the living room) but she's never gone on the living room floor. We're going to have the living room rug cleaned (we have it done once a year) and either tonight or tomorrow night Jim is putting the new floor down in the bedroom. I will NEVER get carpet again! Carpet and dogs just don't mix. :D

my living room carpet is fairly new, like 3 years old, its a beautiful
color of dark grey with a hint of yellow in some spots..when the sun
comes in you can see the beautiful tint of yellow in it... makes me want
to strangle her.

I just wanted to say that watching your dog's water intake is not cruel and unusual punishment. I had to do this with one of my girls when she was a puppy and would do it again to any puppy if the problem arises again. Some puppies don't know when to stop and (this has happened to me) will drink three bowls of water in one sitting and possibly damage their bladder, become insanely bloated, become water sick, and vomit water. Keep in mind she was a healthy girl and their was absolutely nothing wrong with her when she did this; she just didn't know when to push herself away from the water bowl. Of course when she became an adult she knew then when enough was enough. Among other things it is not cruel if you restrict water to a certain extent to help with potty issues. Sorry to get of topic but I had to put my two cents in about that.

It does make me sad to see dogs rehomed for many reasons. Some I can understand, but some, like "I just don't want them anymore" make me so sad for the poor dog.
It is SO much worse though for people to NOT rehome a dog....for whatever reason...when it would clearly be in it's best interest.:(
I am currently trying to convince a couple who live near my parents to give up their 6 mo old yorkie boy. The got him, not really wanting him to begin with...or such is the impression I get. They'd been trying to adopt a baby for a while, but 'settled' for a dog instead. Shortly after getting him, they found out they were going to get their child and are awaiting it's arrival, which has put the 'second choice' pooch to the side. I don't think they have even tried to house trian him yet.:( I am trying to convince them to let me try to find him a home, but they are insistant upon letting me 'buy him' from them so they aren't 'out the money' for him.:mad: I can't keep him and am not prepared to pay what they are wanting for him.

Anyway, in such a case, I would MUCH rather see him rehomed than not.:( As many people as you see who so desperately want a Yorkie, but don't want to pay more than XXX amount for them, seems like this would be a perfect fit. (And yes, I realize rescue/rehoming can still be costly.) In anycase...just thinking out loud, I suppose...:rolleyes:

I can only speak for myself and I could never rehome any of my pets!

I appreciate what you said but I don't think I explained myself completely (also, your situation is entirely different from mine). Without going off-topic too much, my friend suggested that I only give her water ONCE a day. I feel that is cruel and completely unacceptable -- I would never do that.

Also, as per my vet's recommendation, Cali should NEVER have her food and water supply limited because of her extremely tiny size. People don't fully grasp just how tiny she is until they see her in person ... I know I sure didn't until I saw her that first time at the airport when I flew to pick her up! Her size is daunting and almost frightening (in the beginning). Cali is almost 1 year old and if there ever was a true teacup (even though we know it's only a marketing term), CALI would definitely be it! She can literally sit inside a teacup and be completely invisible (head and all). She is only 1 lb and a mere 2 ounces. Just ask her breeder Kathryn (Kathryn_S) or ask Shana (Shanatink) who custom makes/designs all of Cali's clothes. :p

PS - In addition, when I made my statment about limiting water intake and referred to it as being cruel, I was only speaking in relation to MY situation -- not yours (which seems like a serious issue that needed to be addressed and the only way to address it was by supervising water intake) or anyone else's.
