Upset over "Rehoming" Threads I've been going back and forth on wether to start this thread or not since I don't want to start anything that has potential to get out of hand but... As you can see, I decided to do so... I just seem to read more threads lately where Yorkies are being rehomed. I'm not talking about puppies leaving their birth family but juvenille and adult dogs. I totally understand breeders rehoming because of retirement, that's part of the business and you are careful about who you trust your babies to. What I don't get is family pets getting rehomed - I know there are situations where you don't have a choice and as heartbreaking as it is, you need to out of love for your baby. But lately, I've read a few threads that don't seem to have a satisfactory reason (in my opinion). I just can't imagine having to part with a baby after they come into our lives. I'm sorry if I offended anyone - that's not my intention. I just got really frustrated reading about Yorkies going then seeing a post shortly later announcing a new puppy. - Why? What was wrong with the one you had? |
I am right with you...I don't understand it either, I can understand if there is a good reason, but just to get a different puppy no...I know of a girl that gets them and 3 to 4 months later she is always selling them, and buying more, then selling them...I don't get it...I can't even imagine losing one to death that is my biggest fear, they become part of your family:( |
I get sad for the dogs too - what bothers me more is the stress, travel & general upheaval they go thru - NOT saying anyone in particular - but it just seems if someone chooses a dog - pays for that dog and ships the dog - then they should keep that dog.......but each person is different and I guess we all have different views on what constitutes a family pet and what doesn't. I can understand a breeder rehoming to a point - but see so many older females now for sale ....which seems really sad .....Even if I were a breeder - there is no way I could give up a pet after loving it for years. Good thing I'm not a breeder cause I'd be making a name for myself as "the crazy dog woman on the SW Side of Houston" :p :p |

I know exactly how you feel... it really bothers me to read about so many dogs being rehomed - yet the same people will turn around and lecture someone else about a dog being a lifelong commitment, etc. etc. etc. |

If I was a serious show breeder, I'd have a tough time letting go too but on the other hand, I can't imagine having 20+ yorkies, I know I wouldn't be able to give them each the full attention they each need and would rather have them live where they are the Queen Bee or the King of the Hill. Hence I'm not a breeder! First of all I could never sell a puppy and would keep them all! |
You're right it is sad. :( I met some woman at the Pet Expo I went to here in Jersey, and she told me she always looks at the Yorkies b/c she had one before, but she HAD to get rid of her b/c she had poop all over her house and she couldn't take it anymore! If that were the case, Baby (and a lot of other Yorkies on YT) would have been out the door a LOOOOONG time ago! THEN she told me that after she got rid of her Yorkie, she got a s**tzu, but it nipped somebody (can't remember who) in the face, so she got rid of this dog too. I bet the dog was playing, but, whatever. Anyway, she got rid of those two dogs, only to get another dog! Now she has a "hot dog" (crap can't for the life of me remember those doggies names). This dog was only a few months old, so I can't image what she's eventually going to find "wrong" with this poor pup. :thumbdown And, I, like Vee, could not be a breeder neither b/c not only couldn't I retire a pet, I couldn't give up the baby pups either!!! LOL :D |
Frimousse my latest little rescued girl went to 5 homes before mine . Some peoples are really irresponsibles when it comes to dogs . I know for sure that my little rescued ones are at my home to stay . |

Maybe that's why I have such strong feelings about it. |
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. It really matters you all care. It really does. It counts to have a passion. It is amazing the people here who support yorkies. |
I have a question, and I don't want to start anything with my question either, but WHY do breeders rehome their females after retiring them???? We retired Autumn but she isn't going anywhere! She is going to stay here and live out her life with us, the only family she has ever known. I don't understand the logic behind rehoming a girl that was retired from breeding?? |
