I have one. It depends on what you want to do. Our job market is kind of flat right now and I don't want to travel into the city (like 50 miles from way out here) and so I'm not actually in a job that requires my degree right now. It's kind of disappointing, especially when I pay that student loan every month! I want to have my own business some day (SOON) and so then it will nice. My suggestion is to do something like Econ or Finance or Accounting, if you can! 2 friends of mine have their business degrees in Finance and they work for banks and do very well. If you want to go that route I'd get a PT job as a bank teller and see if you like working with the customers. You could then be like an investment banker or mortgage lender or something like that! Look at the classified ads and job boards and see what people are hiring for. |
I have my business degree but I absolutely hated all the accounting and it was a bit of a bore to me. So I also took medical office courses like anatomy, medical terminology, billing, etc. When I finished college I manged a mental health clinic and loved it. Now that I'm a stay at home mom I still make money doing medical billing on the side. Might be something to consider if you like the medical field. |
I'm actually working on my business degree right now! I'm specializing in Management (a part of getting Bachelors in my college). I want to open a doggy daycare or manage a petstore of some kind (and get things changed around!!!).. With mine, I can get any kind of management job.. My professors are really boring which makes the learning process hard for me. I always find myself trying to catch up at the last minute (which is why I'm up so late right now!! hehe). And it doesn't help that have a computer class (Microsoft Office Suite) and I sit on the yorkie forums during the entire class! :D I agree that you'll be a great role model for your babies! I'm a twin myself (fraternal) and we're different like night and day. Good luck on whatever it is that you decide to pursue with your business degree. |
I have a Bachelor degree in Business Management and Leadership that I earned while working fulltime and being a mom as well (with a 3.997 GPA). I worked for years as an Executive Assistant and this degree did not help me get any further along. When I lost my job and the Michigan job market tanked, I couldn't get a job anywhere as I was at the top of my pay scale and the only positions being offered were 1/2 of what I was making. That was when I became a fulltime yoga/pilates instructor....... Good luck - set your sights at what you want and then focus your energies on making it happen. |

Ok this is my problem lol. I would love to eventually become a doctor but I would also love to do something in business. Basically, I'm torn between the 2! What I really would LOVE LOVE LOVE is if I could do business while also doing premed, but I don't think that's possible? Because if I can't get in to medical school, I would hate to redo 3 years of school to get a business degree. Especially having 2 babies depending on me. I also want something to fall back on that I enjoy and could finish sooner for my babies because I don't want to be 8 years working and going 2 school full time and not having time for my babies. |
My husband is currently in medical school and I will be the first to tell you that it is EXTREMELY difficult. You have to really really LOVE medicine and science and learning to go to medical school. My husband works AT LEAST 80-90 hours a week and he is not getting paid. We will have in excess of $130,000 in debt when he gets out. And then he has to do his residency which will last AT LEAST 4 years and he won't be making hardly any money yet we'll have to start paying back those student loans. I don't want to discourage you from doing medicine, but it is just something that you really have to be IN LOVE with in order to do well and get through it because it is really really hard in all aspects: emotionally, financially, time, energy, etc. etc. etc. If you have any questions about pursuing a career in medicine, PM me. Another thing to consider if you like the medical field is Nursing. My sister originally wanted to be a doctor but she wants to have a large family so she decided to do nursing because they have more flexible hours than a doctor. I have a business degree and you can do a lot of stuff with a business degree. I am a paralegal at a law office and love it. With a business degree, you can also open a business, be an accountant, sell real estate, sell insurance, do pretty much anything. |
I have a business degree (majored in Marketing) but never got to use it until NOW (I think :) ). You will find out that whatever you major in is most likely not what you will end up doing, unless it is very technical. What is important is that you do get a college education. Getting into medicine is very hard and staying on it even harder. You really do have to LOVE it in order to withstand the challenges. My daughter wanted to take up dentistry for the money and she is a stellar student. She thought she could handle it but her passion was never there so she decided right after her first quarter to shift to a major that is true to her calling. Good luck on whatever you decide! |
I have an MBA and I manage a private real estate investment firm. I also have a bachelors in Psychology and I feel that I use that one more often with all my employees. |
