If you like medicine but don't want to spend that much time, energy, and money on an MD degree, give nursing a shot. My sister is loving nursing school. And you don't have to go to anymore school when you're done with college. You just do 2 years of college, apply to nursing school, and then graduate in 2 years with an RN. It takes 4 years, just like any other degree.

I don't mean to be the negative one in the bunch but I will just tell you like I see it - 90% of the time the medical field SUCKS! If you don't believe me just ask doctors and nurses. I do wish you luck in whatever you choose...;)

My husband said that if he knew then what he knows now about how much it takes to go to medical school (time, energy, money, effort), he would not do it. It's REALLY REALLY hard. Why do you think doctors have the second highest divorce rate in the country? It's because they're never home. :rolleyes:

Nursing, on the other hand, is a lot less stressful. My sister is loving it. I think the key to that is getting into a field you enjoy.

How long has your sister been a nurse? Ask her again how she likes it in about 5 years...lol. And nursing is very stressful too. Also a doctor that I work with told me just yesterday that the suicide rate are alot higher in doctors and even alot higher than that in female doctors so the stress level is huge. Also the drug abuse rate in nurses is HUGE!!

I forgot to mention about what you said about doctors never being home...All the docs I work with say that is there biggest regret...not really being there to see their kids grow up...and their is several docs that I know that are really depressed - I mean getting mental health care and even one of them being hospitalized for suicidal ideations :( . It is especially the ones that are older and there kids have grown up and they look around and wonder where the time went. I commend your husband for sticking in there because we do need good doctors and I wish you guys the best.

Both hubby and my sister are both going for low-stress, low-time committment fields. My hubby wants to do Opthalmology...they rarely take call and work regular hours like the rest of us...8-5. My sister is still in nursing school, but will probably end up working wtih my hubby.

I have my Bachelors in Business Management with a double major in Marketing......the area were I am at is not all that good but my husband has a good job so thats why I can't use my degree to the best of my ability but what I can say is that make sure you get some kind of experience because most jobs want it well out here for sure.....I just graduated in Dec. so I am still looking for a job I put in a few places but for the most part I love being a stay at home mom to Bailey. I would love to go back to school for something in the medical field because that is really were my heart is at...I was going for nursing but then switched to business.....I may go back to get my Associates in Nursing someday. Oh and while I was at the spa yesterday I was getting a massage and the lady doing it said that she makes just as much as an RN does :eek: so thats a real good field to and school is sooo much shorter! That would be nice for me to do as a side job! :thumbup: She said most days she sees 8 clients and a massage runs from $50-$100 but she said most people get the $60 one (thats the one I had got (hehehehe) so 60x8 clients is $480 then that times 5 is $2400 in ONE 5 DAY WEEK :eek: :thumbup: I don't know how much the spa company takes out but whatever they do take out thats still some good money!! :D

I have my Masters in Business and am so glad I did that. I currently work as a Merchandising Project Manager at a global corporation, it's fun, pays great and I love it. Absolutely worth the time and effort.
