I waitressed for 2 years each at Applebee's & Lonestar Steakhouse. It was pretty good money & alot harder then most people think. I even waitressed all the way up to 3 weeks before I gave birth to my daughter....that sucked! lol! Good luck to you & I'm sure you'll get the hang of it soon!:) |
oh gee, that sounds fun lol. I'm sure I'll end up being a waitress at some point... I try to be nice to waiter/esses because I can't even imagine how hard their job must be. Though there was one time where my friends and I were out and the waitress was a jerk and didn't do a good job, so we left a penny for a tip. :p |
Waitressing is hard work. My daughter has been doing it since she was in high school and now she still has a part-time job waitressing while in college. Boy, some of the stories she tells us:D Just last weekend the place where she was waitressing a couple got into a fight at the bar and started punching each other out. And this is a fairly nice eating place. I give waitress's a lot of credit, I could never put up with some of the things that they have to take from customers. Good Luck to you. Rudys Mom (Dawn):animal-pa |
Thank you guys for your support and for all your interesting stories. I can't imagine if I were to drop something on someone, especially hot water  I agree though, all the waiters should have a good attitude and a smile if they want to get a good tip. I love the job so far and it is very hard. It looked so easy before I worked there. But also my first day was a busy Friday night and we were short on one waitress, thankfully all the managers are really nice. I had one table leave me $1 tip because I put their order in late in the comp. because I had a million other things to do and I forgot. But as soon as I did it they got it right away and the girl was still bitchy but I was nice. It was my fault but some ppl really don't understand how hard it is. We also need to memorize the menu and drinks which is a lot. |
When my husband and I first got together (22yrs ago) he was managing a small restaurant. A gentleman came in and after he had dinner he called my husband over and told him that he could tell he was a hard worker and wanted to know if he was interested in coming to his office for an interview. This was the beginning of a career that my husband probably would not have been able to get without a college degree. You just never know who's watching you.............keep up the good work :D |
that was my 1st job, at age 16, and I loved it! hubby drove a cab....we would come home at night, pour our tips on the bed and count it lol that made it all worth while:) you will get a mean person here and there but the majority of them are nice, so they make up for it, just smile no matter what :) |
 Oh Lord what memories I forgot about! Meet the worse waitress that ever lived! Half day at I-HOP and I was out of there. I was 18. Last thing I did was drop a smilie face pancake at about half the place it should have been placed on the table on purpose making a loud bang saying "there ya go!". Had a rude patron and they got a rude waitress. I was never meant to be a waitress. I grabbed my coat and off I went. LOL! I forgot all about that! My sister worked at Red Lobster and made great tips all the time. SHe was great. Could handle it. Not me! I absolutely hated it. I never returned to waitressing EVER, but I sure do appreciate a good one! If you like it at all stick with it! Just takes time and a good attitude. You will do a fine job. |

I guess Im more of an animal person.:animal36 not a real ppl person Misswanned.:) Im still cracking up over that memory. It didnt help I was never trained just let loose like I was supposed to know! Wish I had a video of that day. It would be titled "What not to do as a waitress" |
That is so unfair that a waiter/ress should have to pay for the food if someone leaves before their food is served. The waitress cannot bring it out before the kitchen has it ready! Is that standard practice?? |
11 yrs ago it was. Not sure now Doorego but sounds like it. Doesnt sound right does it? Doesnt to me. |
