Ok..after a yorkie, whats your favorite toy breed? I am just curious to what your favorite toy breed is...next to a yorkie of course!! Explain why its on your top 2 list and post pics if you have any to share!! Dawn |
My favorite is the toy poodle. I've had 2 and they are easy to train, loving, quite bright, very loyal and love to please, need grooming but are easy to care for, and my little boy Indy had a special gift of knowing when I was going to have a flare of RA before I did and alerted me so I could take appropriate action. I love their little faces and tiny little feet. They are very aware of their grooming needs and become depressed when they aren't groomed well. I swear they are part human! Indy was a wonderful little buddy. His pic is in my avatar and there's one or two of him with Tink on the Gallery. |
You know..I have NEVER known anyone with a poodle...never have I got to meet one in person...strange huh?? Indy was a cutie pie!! Thanks for sharing!! Dawn |
Anyone else? |
poodles, lhasas, maltese :) |
2 Attachment(s) Since my Yorkies aging brother is a dachshund that's my vote! Here's Oscar... |
2 Attachment(s) for me poodle and shih tzu.and this is their photos.. |
Since I have a Pekingese named Snoot, I have to go with this breed ;) I really like the maltese alot too. |
Great choices girls!! You know I have never seen a Peke in "real life" either lol...I need to get out more lol... Dawn |
Not sure if this is a toy breed, but I love Westies!! |
Mine would be maltese, ive never had one, but i do find them very pretty. |
The only other toy breed I've know is a chihuahua, so I guess I'd pick that. We had a love-hate relationship, but I always admired his spunk. |
I had a Maltese before and she was the cutest little thing ever!!! |
I'd love a Maltese, but can't afford the crazy price of them in the UK. Not quite a toy, belonging to the terrier group, but my other favourite is the Cairn Terrier. I've owned 16 of them & they are brilliant little dogs :D Absolutely full of fun, very loving & loyal, easy to train, get on well with other dogs, small enough to take anywhere but can walk for miles, very healthy with very few problems most of mine never needed the vet apart from their booster shots, long thick coats that are SO easy to care for, need I go on?:) :) |
If I didn't have a Yorkie... I would choose a toy poodle. I had an apricot toy poodle years ago and he was the best dog ever (shhh...don't let Jackson hear that ;) ). They are so smart, easy to train, loving, loyal, etc. Everything that was said in that first post about toy poodles is so true! I love that they don't shed too. I guess I'd choose a Maltese for my third favorite. They are very sweet (at least my previous one was) and cute. They require more care than a yorkie or a poodle, however. Keeping those little faces white can be a challenge because of the tearing. So are you thinking of getting a second dog that isn't a Yorkie? |
4 Attachment(s) Mine of course would be Maltese, Chiquito is the sweetest boy:p He is sooooo soft and white..........I love him to pieces, he is like a little teddy bear. I can't help but share pics of him so you all can see what I mean.........this little boy is soooooooo sweet, he just loves kisses and hugs. |
I would have to say a papillion. I have never owned one, but have wanted to the last few years. |
1 Attachment(s) Number two for me is the Silky,Spunky loving wonderful with kids. |
My brother and sister in law had two mini dachhounds named Stella and Bernie that were just adorable, sweet, and precious. |

Maltese and chihuauah. |
I don't think they are considered toy breeds ? but I LOVE Jack Russell Terriers. |
Maltese and Pappillion. Never had either but love their looks. I love the look of the Pom but after having Maya I don't think I would want another one. |
I grew up with a chi in the house and loved her! Since I was 16 years old, all I ever wanted was a yorkie. But, if I had to choose another toy breed, I would love to have a Papillon - their faces and ears are just simply adorable!! Hubby would love to have a pom. I recently got my mom a chi/maltese mix and she is the most cutest thing ever!! If I hadn't gotten her for my mom as a Christmas present, she'd be living with me right now!! |
Definitely not a toy breed, my favorite dog after a Yorkie is a Siberian Husky. |
Mine would definitely be a toy poodle. I grew up with a miniature poodle (just a little bigger than a toy) and the first thing I did after moving away from home to go to college was find me a toy poodle. I was searching for a black one but fell in love with a red one. I don't know how many of you have seen a red one before. It's not an apricot (that's what we had growing up)... mine was copper penny red. Such a cutie! And yes, they are so easy to train and so smart. Daxton was such a laid back guy too. We had to put him down when he had a stroke at the grand age of 15..... such a devastating thing for me and my husband. Poodles are also great for allergy purposes too. I've always loved the Yorkies so I knew that's what I wanted next and now we have Tatum. Probably won't ever have a poodle again because I've fallen in love with the Yorkies but if I COULD have a houseful, I would choose at least one poodle again! |
Maltese, Shih Tzu, Chinese Crested, Brussels Griffons |
1 Attachment(s) Maltese of course. Misha is such a sweetie & so very smart. Piper being both Maltese & Yorkie. Love my Maltese. |

I already have three dogs lol...so right now, no others but there are times I would like to add another (shhhhhhhh dont tell hubby). I was just questioning because I know there are so many brothers and sisters out there for our yorkies and I like to hear about what makes them special. Our yorkies are our first "small breed" or "toy" dog and have always has spaniels... I am pretty enchanted by the carin terrier...would love to see one in person!! But since I cant have a new pup at this time, I will live vicariously through everyones stories and pictures lol... Thanks everyone for taking the time to post!! Dawn I also havent encountered alot of small breed dogs so I was just curious about them. |
Chinese crested..hmmmm...whats that? Dawn |
