PUG! We have a Yorkie, but we also have a pug. A black pug. He's (almost) the cutest thing around (You know... behind my yorkie...)
He is very smart and sweet and all that good stuff... and he also requires much less grooming.

Oh my gosh! He is such a little doll! How old is he? What does he weigh? I think that would be my next pick also.....next to a Yorkie that is lol.

My #2 choice would have to be a toy poodle.

Interesting reason....

I grew up with a toy poodle by my side from before I could remember. I had extreme asthma as a child, hospitalized many times before I could remember.

There was a real old pediatrician that my mother used. He told Mom to get me a chihuahua (sp?). He claimed it would keep me from having asthma attacks. My parents did not want a "shedding" dog and opted to buy a toy poodle from a family friend and breeder. Oh my gosh was she a beauty! Mitzi was the absolute MOST beautiful toy poodle I've ever seen. She was ice white with black eyes and nose etc. I dressed her in my "baby" clothes, drove her around in my toy stroller and had her by my side all the time.
Amazingly, I never had ONE asthma attack the entire time I had her!

When she was about 7 years old, she was let out to potty one night and wasn't watched close enough. She was hit by a car and killed instantly. The profound grief and loss is still fresh in my heart. The next day I was admitted to the hospital in respiratory distress. Within a month, my parents had gotten another toy poodle, "Poofer". I never had another asthma attack, evidently "outgrowing" it. Poofer stayed with us until after I left home. She went to the rainbow bridge at 16 years old.

Both of these babies were the smartest, most loving, devoted and wonderful pets a girl could have.

I love my Sweety. I wanted her for years before I got her, and wouldn't trade her for anything. However, a toy poodle holds a super special place in my heart!

I have NO clue WHY a dog would prevent an asthma attack. None! This was back in the early '60's with a pediatrician from the '30's probably....so don't ask me. LOL But.. it did work for me :)

I have had 4 yorkies and never thought about a different breed.

I've had Yorkies for so long now I haven't really thought about other breeds! However, I do like Westies, Corgis and the brown and tan Brussels Griffon.

Neat story!! We had a shnauzer growing up named Duffy...he was dumb as bricks but the sweetest little boy...very fond memories of Duffy still linger in my heart!! He was born on my birthday and we got him in 1982 when I was 10..he passed away when I was 19 from a stroke. I remember taking him to a "dog show" that was put on in our town that was just for kids..I brushed and brushed and brushed him to primp him up and won for softest dog lol..I STILL have the little ceramic mouse that was given to me as an award...funny I havent thought about that for years!! Thanks for the memories!!

I love the maltese. I just became interested in them. My son's girlfriend has one. His name is Skylar and he is adorable, but very hyper. She brings him over occasionally.

Honestly, can not say this is my 2nd favorite dog, as I view Tiki my Maltese equal to Surfie, if not a smidge ahead of a Yorkie, there I said it. :eek:

I know that you said toy breed, but my golden retriever is the sweeetest dog I have ever had....Sweet sweet sweet.....

I think Maltese are beautiful. I would love to have one. Janell, your babies are all gorgeous.
