I often shop in the juniors section simply because that's what fits. I like other clothes but finding pants is really tough. Some women's stores don't carry a small enough size, plus I don't like pants that come up too high. I agree with everyone else - you just have to go with what feels comfortable. I shop at Abercrombie alot mainly for size - I joke that I'm 33 going on 13. |
Oh, this is a sore subject for me! I'm 35 (not afraid to admit it!;) ) but wear a 1 in Jr. sizes. The ONLY place I've been able to find decent jeans is at Gap and Old Navy because they have what they call the "just below waist" ones. Even those though give me a problem because there's a big gap in the back where you can see straight down my pants!! I have a long torso so anything "low-waisted" is super low on me. If even my low cut panties stick out the top of them, they are too low for me. On top of that, they are finally making shirts a little longer now. If my shirt doesn't come down past my waistband, I'm not comfortable. If someone MY size can see the tackiness of a belly hanging out, then WHY can't the "larger" girls see that a belly hanging over the waistband, not covered by a shirt, is tacky??? Maybe just MY opinion.... There are higher end stores that carry size 2's that I can usually wear (sometimes with the help of my MIL - a seamstress who alters SO much of my clothes) but financially, I just can't go to those places much. It's time they realize that not only Jr. age girls shop in the Jr. sections and start making pants that are a reasonable waist height and maybe throw some styles in there that a "mature" aged woman can wear to work! |

My opinion if you can fit into the Jr's without looking ridiculous then go for it. I might not go with the short shirts though. If you have flabdomen that hangs over the top of the jeans, go with the regular fit. |
I saw a lady the other day that had to be near 40 in a aeropostale sweatshirt & low-rise jeans & she looked adorable & younger than she probably was. I think that if you can look at yourself in the mirror with a slightly judgemental eye & think you look good then go for it. I have to wear low-rise to look good (no crack here though or anything hanging over). Also listen to your husband, they are not going to come right out & say anything bad, but if they think the outfit is unflattering or too young chances are good they will make some kind of comment, such as: did you accidentally get one of our daughters shirts out instead of yours (or something). |
It looks like you have an adolescent daughter. If so, ask her opinion, mine was always my toughest critic. They sure don't want Mom embarrassing them by dressing too young. :) |
i your able to wear low riders, then you go right ahead.. if the shoe fits,, wear it.. im 44 years old and i wear anything that makes me look good. no matter what age i am. i wear whatever i feel comfortable in... |
I just looked at your pictures and I think you look fabulous. I think most people look better in a lower rise as long as it fits- (ewww, muffin top :p ) and no panties showing please! Higher rise pants give people that freaky looking long "mom butt". The majority of girls I see who look offensive in low rise pants are usually younger girls who are trying to squeeze into jeans that are one or two sizes too small and then topping it with a skin tight belly baring shirt. Sometimes I want to scream, honey, either work out or cover it up! For the most part (yeah, we've all seem exceptions) grown women tend to know better. I'm 34 for the record. |
I wear nothing but low rise and I'm guiltly of showing a little crack here and there :):p My family teases me all the time, but I have a cute crack :p I just wear what I like. I follow the trends and I like to dress cute! |
I don't think the age has anything to do with it......it has to do with how you are shaped. My mother-in-law is 56 and 5'3"....size 5 and shops mostly in the jr. section. She looks fantastic. When small frame women wear the high waisted jeans that are tapered at the ankle, it makes them look like they have a super 'long' butt. Go with whatever you feel comfortable in....if you can sit down without showing your crack or panties, then amen to wearing low-rise!! Gives most people a better shape from behind. Maybe just compliment the low-rise with a nice silk blouse that is a little more grown up than a logo tee!! By the way, I am 30 years old |
I don't think age has anything to do with it either. If you look good ( which you do in the pics) then go for it..I'm 50 I have 1 pair of jeans I look good in, but mostly I wear stretchy bell bottom pants or dress pants.... I never was a every day jean person.......... I dont wear shorts often either lol I wear capri's |
