Northern Lights Ever since Mike posted some moon pictures and someone asked about the northern lights, I have been curious to see them. Knowing that I will never get my DH to travel that far from home:rolleyes: I thought I would search online and found this great site. --- I know it does not compare to seeing them in person (I heard that they crackle too), but I still wanted to share the site w/ you. http://www.northern-lights.no/ |
I saw them once in NE PA and they scared the holy bejeepers out of me. I had no idea what they were. But they were absolutely beautiful. Pink streaks rolling across the black sky. |
My Dad has seen them and he said they same thing - he said they were really pretty, but he had no clue that you could hear them - I forgot where he was at the time (I will have to ask), but he said it was definitely something you need to experience. Course, I remember being younger and he and I went out into this big open field to see Haley's Comet! I am glad I have a Dad like that! Love him! |

I hope someday I can see it! Its such a neat wonder of nature  |
I was in the Northwest Territories near Yellowknife twice this past year (Feb and March) on business and didn't see them either time even though I stayed up half the night looking for them! Conditions need to be just right for them to appear. |
Oh the Northern Lights are the most spectacular thing you can see. I miss them so much. I lived in Alaska for over 20 years and regardless of how many times I had seen them they ALWAYS stopped me in my tracks. |
They're AWESOME! Great pictures, too! I haven't had any luck photographing them myself. We don't get them as often or as brilliant in Anchorage, but we have a network of friends who call each other at all hours to announce when they're out. You don't want to miss them. There's a hot springs outside of Fairbanks where people go from all over the world to see them in a resort setting. The problem is, there's no guarantee that they'll be out when the sky is clear. I'll bet Kimberly's seen GREAT ones. The farther north you go, the better. |
I saw them about a year ago when I was, I think the state was Maine, I'd have to check with my sister to be sure, we were on a road trip sort of thing. Anyway, it was SO scary! I was convinced aliens had come to invade the earth! |
I've seen them many times here in N. Ontario and also in Nova Scotia where I grew up. I remember when I was in my early twenties we sat outside on lawnchairs one night to watch them, they were so bright and close...and they did crackle. It was an amazing show I'll never forget. |
I saw them once when we were living in the midwest. It was amazing! They were in green and pink. I wish I would have had a camera with me... |
i have seen them long ago when i lived in anchorage alaska |
thanks The info and pics are very cool. |
I see them here, but they don't look as neat in the city. I should take a drive outside of town when they're happening. First time I saw them, I got the creeps and wondered what the heck they were. Here's a link of some photos taken here in ND...near Bismarck... http://www.prairiejournal.com/northe...hts/121406.htm |
