Kona stuck in tree ~ what to do? My Kona kitty is stuck in the neighbor's tree. I am of course freaking out because she is just sitting up there calling Momma, momma, litterally. Any suggestions? Call the fire dept? What do I do? Poor baby! |
Climb the tree girl!!!! That's what I would do..Poor baby must be so scared. How did she get up there???? |
Get a ladder and get her down! |
she willc ome down..... usually the same way they got up there... d |
Get some cat food and call for her she will come down |
I don't know if the fire department does that anymore...around here they don't..peoples taxes have to pay everytime they go out on a call so taking kitty out of the tree is not on their priority list...Have you tried coaxing her down? She should come down by herself but if she doesn't....get like a big fishing net...climb the tree and scoop her up! I have seen them catch cats (on animal cops) in homes of horders (sp?). Good Luck! |
No need to call the fire dept... She will come down. Take a DEEP breath and get some cat food and call her. She is a cat, thats what they do. My moms cat would go to the roof and do the same thing, but they would get down the SAME way they got up there. |
My neighbors are not home, or else I would be up that tree. They have a locked gate so I can't get in their backyard. There are no branches on the bottom for her to climb down on, she was probably chasing a darn squirrel. I shook some food over the fence, she just can't get down. I feel so bad for her. I will probably call the fire dept pretty soon. She was up another neighbor's tree a few weeks ago, no problem getting down from that one. I'm just sick......... And no, I can't jump over my fence, I'm too old......... Edited, I will wait awhile, thanks for all your advice. Deep breathes..... I'm freaking......... |
So, I decided to go to the Fire Dept, sometimes looking at a real person instead a phone call helps, no go, they don't rescue cats out of trees. I'm not too happy about that as I know they aren't busy as we live in a town of about 30,000 people. I'm just waiting it out, I wouldn't be so scared but we do have medium sized hawks occasionally, I guess I will spend my afternoon looking over the fence. I might try a hose with a high powered spray and see if I can hit her and make her come down............. |
I think she will come down too. A few years ago my cat was stuck in the tree all day crying at me too. But she finally inch by inch came down when she was getting hungry. I hope Kona gets brave and does the same thing.:big_hug: |
my cat used to get on the roof of an apartment I lived in and I had to use ladders to get him down - see if you can find a neighbor kid to help you - you do not need to be falling out of trees and breaking your neck woman !! The kids will help - they love stuff like this....just make sure the KID doesn't fall out or you can get sued lol - good luck !!! |
Oh no!! Is their an animal control dept that would help. |
Thanks all, I just got off the phone with Animal Control, the woman told me to ignore her completely. Bring the dogs in, and wait it out. She said it's not unusual for cats to stay in trees for 5 to 6 days. She also told me the hose idea was a bad one, as she could try to jump, and get hurt. She also said it would be unusual for a hawk to go after an 11 lb cat, they normally like to carry off their prey, we all no that is not always the case. As there are no kids in my neighborhood to speak of, I will just have to wait for the neighbors to get home, and try our pool net with a long pole. She of course also thought this was a bad idea as Kona will probably climb further up the tree....... The only good thing is I can see her from my office window while I'm on the computer........ |

I've had plenty of cats get stuck up trees. The only one I would go after would climb up the pine tree. So I would climb up, get all 25 lbs of him, sling him over my shoulder and climb down then spend the next couple of hours trying to get pine tar out of my hair and his, lol. This was a weekly thing. The other cats all came down on their own when they got hungry. Not to worry, it's what cat's do. Kona will be fine. They just like to keep us on our toes and make us nervous. I had one cat that had her kittens about 10 feet up a tree in a hole in the trunk! I did have to bring the kittens down once they started moving around and getting close to the edge of the hole. |
Open up a can of cat food and put it at the bottom of the tree. After smelling that for a while she might get motivated, I HOPE!! |

Update? Has your kitty come down from the tree yet? Hoping all is well there. |
I'm sorry to say Kitty, no. Poor doll is still up there. I thinking of hiring a tree trimmer today if I can find one available....... |
I'm so sorry to hear that the kitty is still up the tree. Sending good wishes and prayers your way. |
still there?? :cat: here kitty, kitty....come down now-I know your mom is worried! Hope she comes down soon. HUGS |
Poor kitty, I hope by now she is safe in your arms. :big_hug: |
1 Attachment(s) Thanks everyone, poor Kona is still in the tree. We have tried everything, I called a few tree trimmers to no avail. Tomorrow is a new day, but I am just worried sick. She's up about 30-40 feet so it's no easy task. Thanks so much for your thoughts, they mean the world to me.........Here she is in a tree across the street, she was up for about one minute and came right down. It was a small tree, she was up only ten feet, tops.......This kitty will never go outside again.....so I say now. I just don't think it's fair to keep a cat inside, but that's just me. She is currently allowed out until 12:00PM, she has broken curfew, and will be "grounded". |
wow I sure hope you get her down safe. she sure is a beauty. I would get some tuna and break the neiabors gate down! poor lil girl. I will keep you in my thoughts. |
how`about like someone suggested getting some tuna but since u cannot access the area how about throwing the tuna on the floor ? |
Sorry, should have mentioned my DH broke the gate down last night. Neighbor's must be on vacation, I have not seen them for at least a week, but I rarely do. We have tried every food known in the kitty world. I put some tuna in our pool net which extends to ten feet. Nada, I was hoping the smell would help bring her down somewhat........She's just too scared.......My day was spent beneath the tree, as it will be until she is safe...... |
She's a beauty! I hope she comes down soon. Prayers coming your way. |
