? for Kathryn V... I have read another thread about the Bare Minerals makeup and you seem to know a lot about it and use it, I am wanting to order some but there is so much to choose from. What do you recommend for a beginner? I now wear a liquid base, mascara, lip gloss or lipstick and blush daily. Sometimes eyeshadow. I have been looking at the starter kit for $60, but I think I want some blush, lipstick and eyeshadow too, maybe a few shades of eyeshadow. What colors would you recommend in those? I would get the medium shade makeup, I just need some advice on the best colors on the other stuff. I figured you would be one of the best to ask, you seem to know your stuff and highly recommend it. Anyone else with input would be greatly appreciated too. |
I use it thanks to Sherry Lynn here - and I would go for the starter kit - if you buy it seperate it costs more - I LOVE it. It's really nice makeup and worth the money - The colors all depend on your skin tone but you can go see them in person at places like ULTA and other high end stores - go experiment then get the starter kit online. I think that's the best way because each product individually is kind of expensive - and if you don't like it - you can always return it |
We don't have an Ulta, we have Macys and Jcpenny, I wonder if they carry it? i might check their web sites. |
Do you have a Sephora store near you? They carry it there. :) |
No, we have nothing like that. I see JCpenny web site has it through Sephora, but I don't know if our store has it. QVC has a ton on their site, there is just so much to choose from, I don't know where to begin. I know I am going to get a starter kit with the makeup. I just am trying to figure out the best colors in the other stuff(eyeshadow, blush, lipstick) and what other brushes I would need. |
I just saw the starter kit and Bed Bath & Beyond for $35. I love the stuff. I just use the face powders though, I don't know much about the other make up. |
I'll check out their site, maybe they have the starter kit on it. thanks. |
I bought my mom a starter kit for Christmas and I bought it directly from their site. http://www.sephora.com/browse/produc...egoryId=C10470 If that isn't a color you need scroll down and you will see the others available. |
ok... Tell me what shadow colors you wear now... and I can give you B M colors... What shade/color of bluush do you wear?? Lipstick?? If you tell me the colors you uasually lean towards I can totally give you reccomendations, I have a huge selection of colors.. I were them all! Its crazy the colors I own... I don't stick to one group! lol I used to! But not anymore! But you need to start somewhere! Oh! And another GREAT suggestion... Ebay Starter sample kits! There are people who make their money buying shadows and blushes and liner shasows and scooping them out into sample pots... so you can TRY them befor you BUY them... its perfect for someone like you!!! I've done it! I often sample a new line of colors befor I fork ocer the big bucks for them. When you buy the full sized pots, you are buying enough for a year of EVERY DAY wear!!! I swear a little goes a LONG way!!! So Check ebay for SAMPLE Bare Minerals but make sure they are the real Bare Esentuals! Not some off brand! ;) Look on ebay... but still get me those colors! |
I wear black mascara, a rose color blush, I lean towards mauve or bronze beige in lipstick, although I like nude and pinky glosses too, and beige or purple colored eyeshadows. I experiment with eye color a lot, but would probably start with a neutral in beige.I have green eyes and dark brown hair. I will check Ebay for samples too. What brushes should I get for the blushes and eyeshadows too? So glad you were here to get help from, you always seem to know about all of the good stuff. |
I just found a site http://store.faceetc.com/category_s/22.htm theirs is 10% off. They look a little cheaper than other sites, with the sale going on any way. |
I recommend the Kabuki brush! I use it daily & love it! It's the short stubby looking one. I love Bare Minerals makeup! It's all I wear!:) |

Well I researched on all of the BE items last night till midnight, and I think I know a lot about their stuff now. I ended up ordering the starter kit from Sephora plus some brushes and a lot more, I got free shipping there. I also orderd some items from QVC and Ebay. I am so excited, I can't wait to try it, I hope I like it...I spent way too much money so I better like it. Now I would likr to find a good brand for wrinkle prevention and moistuizing...not that I have many yet, but want to prevent and reduce. Any suggestions on what is good?? I was looking at Yves Rocher, I have had samples and I like it, anyone use it?? |

Yves Rocher is a GREAT brand and also the Avon Anew line is good - and the Arbonne line- |
HUGE BE fan here!! Just a suggestion... if it's still available, the kit from the BE site is better than the kit from Sephora, IMO. I got the BE one and just got my sister the Sephora one for Christmas. Hers lacked the Well Rested- one of my favorite BE products- and I got a little travel compact/mirror thing. When I got mine, it was the same price as the Sephora price. I love their eye shadows and liner shadows because they stay on all day, even through a workout! I use the Well Rested under my eyes and on any other "problem spots" that may arise, I use the foundation, warmth as a blush/bronzer of sorts, their eye shadow, liner shadow, Big Tease (I think it's called) mascara, mineral veil, and buxoum lip gloss. I never used to wear face make up before BE and I couldn't be more pleased with this line! I just made my first visit to a BE store... big mistake! I have the handy bouki brush that I use to apply my foundation. The girl working used the heavenly face brush and that will be my next purchase... it was great- so soft and gave great coverage. I also just got the double ended eye make-up brush, which I much prefer to the brush I got in the iQuad. The iQuad and the liner pallete available through qvc.com are great investments for someone just starting with this line... it's a few shades to try and you get the brushes! I have only tried the lipstick when the make-up girl put it on me, but I'm not a lipstick person so I felt like a clown!! The lip gloss is great, though! A big help to me with this line was watching QVC when Leslie, the CEO, has been on. Check the BE site... I know she'll be on in the next few weeks. Even if you aren't going to buy anything, she shows how to use almost every product on there. I'll tell you... a year ago I never would have thought I'd be so obsessed with makeup. I've always been a girly-girl, but didn't want foundation globbed on my face so I didn't bother with much make-up. Now, I've spent a ton of money on this make-up and don't mind taking the time each morning to put it on! And I'll tell you, although it may seem expensive at first to buy everything you need, it lasts FOREVER. I've been using my foundation for 6-9 months and it looks like I've barely touched the container! PM me if you have any additional questions. You're going to love this line! |
Thanks so much for all of the information. I am glad to see there are so many that love this stuff. Here is what I ordered, you tell me if thers is anything else you suggest for a beginner: from Sephora- starterkit(has 3 brushes, 2 found., mineral veil, warmth, dvd and skin rever upper), liner shadow(coffee bean), precision liner brush, tahitian sunset eye trio from QVC-rose radiance w/angled face brush, well rested eyeshadow w/blending brush, 3 pc. eye and cheek color(2 eye and 1 blush) from Ebay- Hint of truth, tapered blush brush, contour shadow brush, big tease mascara, true lip gloss. I tried to get a piece of each kind of makeup. i wanted to start with neutrals, if I like it I'll by more colors later. Anything else I may need?? |
I got my order from Sephora yesterday that had the starter kit in it and the tahitian sunset trio eyeshadow. I didn't get a chance to try it until this morning, and I do believe that I love it. I want to see how it does all day, but it feels like nothing is on my face and it looks so silky on. I have a feeling I am going to have to order some more colors of eyeshadow and probably more! I think I have been converted, bye bye cheap stuff!! |
Thats my favorite eyeshadow trio!!!! Meet the browns is another good one if you like netrual!!!! True is a fab one to get as well, not the flat True, but the one with the sparkle to it, its an eyeshadow and blush as well... its a "OMG! I'm running soooo late quick fix! Just swipe it on your lids and your cheeks and you look amazing!!! it wakes your whole face up! a touck of mascara and some lipstick and it looks like you actually spent time getting ready! lol I love True! Cause to be totally truthfull it is my biggest liar... and no its not a disco sparkle.. but just enough to look amazing!!!! I seriously want the Peacock collection, I got to play with some of the colors and I dug them.. its on ebay right now... I say it a couple of days ago.. there was only one kit... but I'm sure if you keep your eyes out... you'll find more. A great hint!!! BUY ALL THE limited eddition kits that come out!!! its a great way to build your brush collection, not to mention shadows and everything else! they always have some neat goodies that you cant get your hands on otherwise! And if you end up with stuff that you already have... sell it in the garage sale section or on ebay! And buy more stuff!!! lol Thats what we all do! : ) Or save it for when you run out or for when you wear out your brush (I used to think that was going to happen! ha ha ha years later, I have parted with my extras... I'm not wearing any out! lol) Buy those KITS!!!!!! The prices are Killer for what you get!!!!!! If you liked it this morning... you'll love it tonight! And Sleep in it!!!!! Just to say you did! lol Oh... I don't know how sensitive your eyes are... but don't get the minerals in your eyes... I know this should go without saying... but for whatever reason, I cant keep my eyes closed while I do my eyeshadow! lol so I always get it in my eye! and its not fun! but it goes away after like 6 or 7 minutes.... so just don't be a dork like me and get this stuff in your eyes, it will not feel good! lol |
Kathryn, that is one of the reasons I bought the tahitian trio, in a previous thread you listed some of your favorites, I think I bought about all that you suggested. I can't remenber which true I got, sparkle or none. Qvc had a lot of the kits, and some were marked down. They seem to be a good place to get them. Jan. 22 they will have a BE show, i bet they have some new stuff then. I can't wait, I'll be tuning in. I found a lot of the brushes on ebay, and cheap too, compared to the actual price. You were right I like it on my face this evening as much as I did this morning. I still look like I just put it on. I will be sleeping in it, just so I can say I did.LOL |
Kathryn... I have the Peacock Kit... I think. It has the green shadow along with another shadow called something spice. If I'm thinking of the right kit, it's a pretty good kit. This kit had my Big Tease mascara and Buxuom lip gloss- love them! However, the green color eye shadow doesn't really show up on me. I haven't tried to apply it wet, but dry it just kind of looks grey-ish. I do like the mineral veil that comes in the kit, though. My sister got 2 really great green colors when we went to the boutique the other week; if you're looking for a green look, I would almost recommend getting some of their seperates. Her greens were brighter than the Meet the Greens colors. Do you have a boutique near you? I think it's probably a good thing I don't have one near me! I can hardly wait for Leslie on QVC! |
I just moved to Southern california FROM the San Francisco area... and her main store is in San Francisco!!! I went all the time!!! BAD IDEA!! Its how I built up my CRAZY COLLECTION!!! And I have so many Glimpses.. They are whisper like colors! But if applied just so they provide color like no other can! I picked up the green from that kit for 5.99 on ebay. : ) Not a bad deal I think! And After working on my foundation for the last year and a half... I finally hand to break down and get more... I am running super low... And it was the smaller container... not the really big pot, my veil I bought in a BIG pot! Foundation I get the little ones cause depending on how much sun gets me, I switch them up alot... But I can't wait to try the green... And I have like 5 darker greens... All in all I think I have about 60 eye colors... 20 cheek and face colors... lots of liner shadows... lol its crazy... And lets not even count brushes! :D K |
