Just when I thought Eddie had overcome his fear of moose, they returned. Not only to the park but to our neighborhood! Here are some pics and vids taken this morning. Eddie's hiding under the bed and won't come out!

Very Cool to see Moose at the park! Poor Eddie, I certainly do not blame him he knows his limits...

Mike, those are incredible videos!

Maybe this is a dumb question, but are the moose aggressive? We have white tail deer that visit daily, but I cann't imagine a 1,000 lb. critter! They don't seem to have much fear of humans.....

Jack is cute as a button just staring at you with those big brown eyes full of anticipation for attention. He finally get you to himself and you are moose stalking!


Ok, so here's a really stupid question from a city gal... The moose looks harmless, ok so they are HUGE and can basically hop over a 4-foot fence but it's not like they have fangs & claws.. I saw on your other post that they have killed a man... How do they attack and how does a tree help?


Oh and do they shed the antlers in the winter? - Just wondering since you couldn't tell if the one in your neighbor's yard was a male or female...

Moose don't go looking for trouble, but they don't back down to anything that they feel threatens them. People have been stomped to death after surprising them. They can defend themselves from grizzly and wolf attacks. But if you give them a wide berth, they will leave you alone. I had trees to hide behind, so I wasn't concerned at all.

LOL, What is this "Ask Mr. Moose Man?"

Corinne, moose can weigh up to 1,500 pounds. They defend themselves by rearing up on their hind legs and launching their front legs forward. I saw a video on youtube where a moose and its calf stomped on a guy by just walking on him.

As for antlers, yes, they shed them every year. A lesson in ungulates: Anything with horns keeps them for life. Anything with antlers sheds them yearly.

I agree.. don't know what I'd do about a moose, Last night a squirrel ate thru my screen window and then came back this morning and did another one ... YUCK!!!

LOL, now that IS funny! Everyone thinks moose are scary, but your squirrel caused more damage! Moose never eat through screen doors!

It still is scary knowing they are around ... and a little yorkie terrier might make enough noise to attract them? and they may stomp on them??? Skeery! and kids have to watch out also.
Lotsa snow up there ... Happy new year! you are brave to get so close .... Poor Eddie ...

and now I cannot get fresh air .... gotta get wire screens and not just the mesh ones, I guess ... UGH!

do the moose ever dent any cars? I hit a deer once in upstate NY (was on the way home from Vt.) and wow, it ruined the whole front of the car and busted the radiator as well .... poor Bambi! Poor me ...
had to get it fixed up yonder and drive 2 hours home with a car that looked like a bear took a bite out of it ...

Moose vs. cars is a big concern and scares me more than running into them on foot. This description may be a little graphic, so the squeamish might want to stop reading now, but when a car hits a moose it takes out only the legs. The entire 1,000-1,500 body goes directly through the windshield. When that happens, the least of your worries is whether your car has been dented.
