House Sitting vent SO! I am house sitting for my office manager for a week - no big deal. She asked me - and I thought why not. She's cool with Miss Kimber coming there even though she's only 50% potty trained. Turns out her 17 year old daughter is home the entire week!!! WELL! This girl is known to have "anger" issues. I work 12 hour days (Miss Kimber comes with me) and the girl asked me to call her at 9 and make sure she was awake. I told her I would try and remember. WEll 10 o'clock came around and I was so caught up with work that I forgot. I guess I thought it was kinda crazy that a 17 year old needed to be woken up. I haven't talked to her yet so I don' tknow if she's home or not. Anyway - I'll just tell her I forgot but I'm sure she will resent me for the next week. (please keep in mind I am 22 years old) Okay so last night her friend and her boyfriend were over and they were watching a movie - and I'm trying to sleep upstairs and they have the surround sound on SO loud I figured the neighbours could hear it! I ignored it. This lady has a dog (a Nova Scotia duck tolling retriever) she is a beautiful, well trained dog - she plays well with my puppy (if she didn't I would never stay there) - So I have to walk this dog, even though the daughter is home all day long? This isn't my dog - and Miss Kimber can't walk outside here (it's about -15 celcius when we go for our walks, too cold for her!) But seriously! When I went over there the day before yesterday to make sure the dogs got along and check everything out - I offered to walk the dog thinking that the daughter would be doing it! She expects me to make dinner but doesn't tell me if she's going to be home or not (I'm fine with bagels or some soup!) She's a picky eater but wouldn't be specific about what she liked and what she didn't. She doesn't leave notes when she's out - and I wouldn't care about that but she usually locks herself in the basement, so really I have NO idea if she is there or not! I guess I'm just frustrated!!! |
I would be frustrated too!!!!!!!!!! I think i would be calling someone. You were hired to 'house sit' not babysit. big difference in my opinion. |
Sounds to me like her mom does everything for her, and she hasn't learned that not everyone is her mommy. |
Yah no kidding! I was getting myself up for school when I was like 10?!!! I dont get it! Anyway - hopefully tonight she won't say anything about me forgetting to phone her - and realize I dont' have time to do things like that (and yes I do spend a lot of time on here, I know...) |

I think his intentions were for you to babysit but he didn't think you would go for that so he called it house sitting. |

My office manager and her husband are gone to Dominican Republic. This is the second trip they've taken in a year and NOT taken their daughter! I truely don't understand! My mother left me alone when I was 17?! This girl is working 2-5 hour shifts the entire week I am there and doesn't have to go to school. Their dog only needs to be fed once in the morning and let out a few times during the day....She asked me abouta month before and I was unsure about it - and then when I said yes I would she said her daughter would be there I was like "UHH WHAT"! HELP ME! I'm scared to go there tonight b/c I think she's going to freak on me for not "making sure" she was awake! AHHH! |
jeeze..who would want to take her along on vacation lol i'm sorry I don't know what to tell you |
yah and I was talking to a guy from work and he's like "yah I heard she has ANGER issues" and you can totally tell she does... this lady and her husband had to PAY their older daughter to clean the kitchen after Christmas dinner! YUP _ and this girl is like 35?!? |
They had to pay their 35 yr old daughter to clean the kitchen? Thats horrible!!!! My sisters and I cleaned up the kitchen after Christmas dinner without being told, but we know that is our job and has always been since we were kids. Heck, my mom even has us doing half the cooking now. |

I just hope this girl doesn't get mad and tell her mom I'm doing these things she thinks I'm supposed to - but I'm not really supposed to... yanno? ack |
I would totally do the housesitting, but ignore the 17 year old. They didn't even bother to tell you she was there so she's not your responsibility. Whatever she leaves out...put in her room. No reason for her to make work for you...unless she's willing to pay you!!!:) I honestly can't believe your boss would be this thoughtless toward you.:) |

lol - she is my "boss" but my dad owns the company so I dont really know how you consider that.... anyway the girl just messaged me on msn and said she'd be out tonight - hopefully until I go to bed! I really don't mind taking care of their dog, but not a child! |
When you were asked to housesit, did your boss mention specifically what she wanted you to do...feed the dog, take the dog for a walk, let the dog out couple times a day? I would just do what she had said she wanted me to do when she asked me to housesit. If she didn't mention the daughter would even be there, I wouldn't think she would expect you to be a wake up service or even cook dinner? If the daughter does have issues with you, and gets mad, I would be just calling up her mom and explaining that this goes far beyond what you thought and she might be needing to have a little "chat" with the daughter. If she is old enough for her mom to leave her to go on vacation and she didn't make arrangements for you to "babysit", I wouldn't!! Sounds like the dog was your "job", not the daughter:p Geeezzz, some people, and how messed up is that to pay a 35 year old woman to clean the kitchen for her own parents? People never cease to amaze me sometimes:rolleyes: |
I'm glad everyone sees this the same way that I do! haha When she asked me she said they just wanted someone to "be there", I wasn't really sure way - it's an awesome area. But then her daughter didn't get home 'til like midnight last night sooo I guess they just want someone to let the dog out after work kinda thing - which I could do without staying there, but whatever - I guess she thought it would be more convenient. I asked her if she wanted me to walk the dog, she said yes. No problem with that either at all. The past two days there have been dirty dishes left on the counter from her daughter. I just wish I didn't have to see her at all - but I guess it's inevitable! Oh well - only 5 more "sleeps" :) |

jeez.....a 17 yr old needing a babysitter. They didnt tell you shed be there did they? as from where im reading, unless i missed something, they didnt. your a house/ dog sitter. thats it!:) im sorry your going thru this. bosses make things alittle difficult. |
Ohhh she said she'd be there but, "Do her own thing" OH! And when I was there the day before they left, this girls dad said that her boyfriend was only allowed to stay there if the roads were bad (in Thunder Bay, the roads can get VERY bad - and no snowplows in site! haha) and that he had to sleep on the couch! Anyway... so then the first night I was there she said her mom lets her boyfriend stay there all the time and that he sleeps in her bed and her mom doesn't care... I was like "umm okay" - but seriously she's 17 - i'm 22, I would probably have done that when I was 17 (if my parents were gone) soooo I can't really say no he can't, b/c she would do it anyway! Her boyfriend and his friend sleep there everynight! |
