Crock Pot? How many of you use a crock pot? Do you put stuff in the morning and let it cook all day while you are at work? I want to do that, but I'm worried that something will happen that will cause a fire. Have you had any problems? |
I love my crock pot and use it all the time! It is great when we have some sport practice or scouts. Dinner is ready when I am home and then we can head off to where ever I have to be. Never had any problems with my crock pot. |
I read the title of this thread as "crack pot" ROFL. Anyway. When my parents use their crock pot, if something is frozen it's in about 8 hours, if it's fresh they leave it in about 6. |
my sister buys the marie calenders crock pot meals and adds extra veggies and meat. she luvs it. just drop it all in and dinner is ready when u come home. i'm asking for a crock pot for xmas. |
I LOVE my crock pot!!! I use it all the time. It's so convenient! I'll put a roast, or chicken paprikas together and come home and have a delicious dinner waiting for us! I also like to put frozen chicken breasts (low-6-8 hr) with some seasonings, and then when I come home I shred it and add taco seasoning and make chicken burrito's. I also will put pork chops w/potatoes (lots of seasonings) and I have the most tender pork chops EVER!!! If you're going to leave it all day (6-8 hours) make sure you're meat is still frozen/partially frozen. If not, the thawed/fresh meat will soak up all the moisture/juice and your meat will dry out/burn, and your house will stink for a week. |

Incase you have busy mornings, you can put frozen meat on low the night before and it is ready at dinner the next evening. Just be sure to put in plenty of water and make sure nothing flammable is next to it. Teri:animal-pa |
I have cooked with a crockpot for 35 years. Usually the only thing that happens, is that when they go out, you end up with raw food, that has been in the pot all day. Never had a fire. |
I have used a crockpot for many many years too - I don't cook very much any more, so I don't have many recipies - but you can google crock pot soup or crock pot dressing or crock pot (anything) and you will get loads of recipies. Also, there are crock pot cookbooks. Someone mentioned the Marie Calendars crock pot dinners - they are VERY yummy!!! |
I love roasts in the crock pot. they are so moist and tender. I let them cook all day on low. |
my mom bought one like 2 months ago and we still havnt used it just dont know what to start off with lol |
I love my crockpot! If you're a member of 4womentalk there's a thread of crock pot recipes there...you can also google crock pot or slow cooker recipes, there are tons. Good luck! |
This thread made me think last night so this morning I got up and made some soup in my crock pot :) I put in 2 chicken breasts, carrots, celery, onions, chicken broth, italian dressing, potatos and some seasoning and had a great dinner all ready at 5pm :) I LOVE my crock pot! |

I have always had a crock pot.....I have changed several times over the years....started w/ a small one, then moved to one that the pot can be removed (this is a plus for easy cleaning) and then I moved to one of those nice big ones......I might even get one of those newer double ones now! HA! I love to cook pot roast in mine..........put the roast in (beef or pork) some celery, carrots, potatoes, dry onion soup mix, salt/pepper, some water, oh and some onions....I think that is it....turn it on low in the morning and it is done (oh so tender and juicy) by dinner time....there is plenty of juice left over too for gravy....yum! I have a good beef stew recipe (too long to remember off the top of my head) that I cook in the crock pot! YUM....that is perfect for these colder days/nights! |

16oz fat-free refried beans 15oz can black beans, rinsed and drained 14 oz can fat free chicken broth (I ended up adding about 5 more oz because I wasn't sure there was enough liquid in there to be soupy enough) 1 1/2 cup frozen corn 3/4 cup boneless skinless cooked chicken breast cubed (I used 2 breasts, I'm not sure how much it ended up being, but it seemed just right) 1/4 cup water 4 oz can diced green chilies, undrained drops of hot sauce 2 cups shredded cheese (divided) 1 bag tortilla chips 1. Combine all ingredients except cheese and chips 2. Cook on low 3-4 hours, or until heated through 3. Add half of cheese, stir until melted. 4. Crush chips in bowls. Add soup. Top with sour cream and add more crushed chips. It was DELICIOUS! I got the double thumbs up from my bf who is very picky about food being good. But just as good as getting the thumbs up, it was very easy to make. |
I use my crock pot all the time and I love it! We mostly use it for roast, ribs, whole chickens and spaghetti sauce. For pork roast I just cut slits in the roast and insert slivers of garlic then sprinkle with italian spice mix. Set it to low for 8 hours, it's perfect (and that's from fresh, not frozen). I made that tonight for dinner actually! Ribs are great drenched in bbq sauce and left to cook all day. Mmmmmm...I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. Basically any cut of meat you have can be thrown in that pot and will come out juicy and tender every time. |
Ohhhh.....YUM!! Thank you so much! I will have to look for that book! |

I actually have 2 copies of Fix-it and forget it that I got for christmas last year. I don't exaclty need two so if you would like one of the copies PM me and let me know. =) |
Crock pots are very low voltage I think so it is very safe to leave unattended. I do have 2 but use them purely for boiling meat :) |
i dont have one , but i think im going to get one real soon. so if i leave it on all day long, doesnt the meat shred and everything inside get mussy????? and what if it soaks up all the water, wont it burn and then the pot burns and then their goes my house and my lexi |
I have a crock pot and I LOVE it! |

Oh, Thanks! I just sent you a PM!!! |
I'm always paranoid about that too and therefor only cood something when I know I will be home all day....which is NEVER!:( I also don't like to leave....even for a minute with the dryer on. I will leave the washing machine and dishwasher going if they are almost finished or I'm coming right back....I can clean up a flood.;) |

Most meat (chicken, beef, etc) that I have cooked in mine, get so tender that the meat does just fall apart or easily shred...which is definitely what you want. In fact, the other day, I mixed up some BBQ sauce (easy to make from scratch, yes, I know, easier to buy a bottle) and put some skinless, boneless chicken breast in there...cooked it all day and when DH got home, I took a fork to the chicken and it just pulled apart sooooo easily...perfect for BBQ chicken sandwiches! YUM! I think most crockpot recipes call for the right about of liquid for the recipes because I have never had any problems w/ any of the stuff I have cooked in mine. I REALLY LOVE MINE!!! |
I like using my crockpot but I don't turn it on and leave for the day. Mine cooks faster than what is normal. One time I made chicken and veggies and left to go shopping for a few hours and when I came home 4 hours later the chicken was burned slightly--the recipe said 6-8 hours and it was done in half the time. It was really tender and still tasted good but I think I would have had a lump of charcoal in my crockpot if I returned within the 6-8 hours that the recipe recommended. |
Tonight before I go to bed into the crockpot the bone from the Thanksgiving ham and a pound of pintos...... Tomorrow night we are gonna have some good eats.... You guys are welcome to come and join :) :teethysmi |
I love my crock pot! I use receipes from . I work long hours so, its great to come home to a cooked meal. |
