Cooking with a pressure cooker Do any of you cook with one? My mom came over one day to help me catch up with laundry, housework, etc and she asked if I still had my pressure cooker because she wanted to whip up some quick beef stew. I bought this thing to can a few things and its been put up for yrs and I forgot about it. SO thats what she did whipped it right up, even iwth prep time it took less then a 1/2 hour for home cooked yummy stew.. It was delicious and I can not beleive how fast you can cook with pressure cookers! I always thought of them as a way to can things Ive been cooking with it all the time. Lemon pepper fish, chicken and noodles, sweet and sour chicken, BQ spareribs with potatoes. You can have stuff done in literally minutes.......unbeleiveable and its so good. Most times I hate to cook, and I hate the longgggggg wait for stuff to get done, but Ihave actually liked cooking with the pressure cooker because its fast. If you have never used one they can be a bit scarey at first, but after cooking with one I think you would love it. |
I love mine and cook with it often. It is the only way I will cook a roast. They turn out so tender. Mine is a presure cooker /crock pot so it gets alot of use. |

SOmetimes I have good luck with a roast in the oven and other times, leather!!!!! But you cant hardly go wrong with the pressure cooker, the meat falls right off the bone. A roast takes what Chachi.........45 minutes? and its falling off the bone. |
It quick and the meat is tender. I havent cooked chicken in it but I think I am going to try it. I got mine off of QVC. |
OMG! a pressure cooker!! My Mom used to cook with a pressure cooker...alot when I was a kid...I didn't even think they made them anymore! LOL...If you aren't careful can't they blow up? I am 49 and never used one...was always afraid to. |
You just have to make sure you let the pressure out of it slowly when its done cooking |

I was like "THere she blows!!!!" It was scarey, and I was telling my mother "Hey I dont like the sound of that!!" ( I have ony canned twice) Anyway she was laughing at me. Mine came with a cook book and it tells you how to cook with it. Im not afraid of it now. You just follow the directions and most times at the end of the cook time, you put the whole cooker under cold water and it has a safety valve that blows steam a few seconds later. You will know when it happens! Take the metal regulator off and open the lid and thats it. Tasty food. Once you get the hang of its less intimidating. They are MUCH SAFER then they used to be. They have a safety valve etc. I dont think in th eold times they had the safety valve, and a pressure cooker has a rubber seal on the lid and if it was bad or cracked they were dangerous then. But now they are more safe. Chachi, I have a sweet and sour chicken recipe if you want me to post it and you like that sort of thing.:) |
Oh I love sweet and sour chicken and would love to have a recipe |
