I didnt get my mix at a pound BUT.....I donate EVERY WEEK to my shelter...I am there WEEKLY with donations of either money, dog food, blankets...etc...I visit the dogs weekly also to see who has gotten adopted. I have done this for the last few years. Most dogs are mixes, most dogs are large breed, then medium breed, the smallest I have seen in the past year at our shelter was a chi...but he was only lost for a day. If I could have found a yorkie mix at my local shelter I surely would have. Darla was affordable to me and CUTE AS A BUTTON. I find ALOT of mixed breeds are ADORABLE!! Darla has the BEST PERSONALITY AND TEMPERMENT of all my dogs...and my other 3 are PUREBREDS!! I am not saying that mixed breeds are better at all...its just that it has worked out here that way..in my home. I ADORE all of my dogs, I find each one beautiful...and each dog on YT beautiful. So for someone to make the statement that mixed breed arent attactive...burns me...as I believe a statement like that is made to get people upset..JMO.. Dawn |
I agree that comment was unnecessary and hurtful |

I went to get another yorkie when I found my yorkie-poo. I have previuosly had 2 little yorkies and that was what I wanted again. Well-when I saw Jaxon, it was all over....he could have been anything & I would have bought him. He is so well behaved & awfully cute! I have sent 5 other people to my breeder to see if they can get a Jaxon, but of course he is a one-of-a-kind!!! I use to be a yorkie snob and now I am more open to other mixes. You can't help what you fall in love with & that is priceless...By they way -Jax cost me $350. more than 2 years ago and they are now charging $500. for them. The Puppy Expo that comes to town on the weekends gets $850. He started out looking like a yorkie with floppy ears & has turned black & silver. He weighs in at 5.6lbs of pure unconditional love. His temperment & training has been alot easier & faster than my previous pure bred yorkies. I always thought it would only be a yorkie for me, but this little guy has stolen everyone's heart & there is no way if you ever met him that you wouldn't fall in love too......even if he is a mutt to some of you. When Prince bred with my friends poodle I sold my pick of the litter for $300 I thought that was an ok price, and apparently it was cause she sold! |

I don't "get" some of the other mixes some folks are trying but in my opinion, if you know what was brought together to make the pups, they are "designer" pups. If you have no idea what they are or how many breeds are in the "mix" they are mutts. It is all in what you want, or what pulls at your heart strings. Teri:animal-pa |

i have a mixed breed yorkie pom and people love her, they think she is goregous and i have been offered triple what i paid for her. i would not pay more than 500-600 for a mixed breed or designer breed, but then again if it is something i like or want then i would pay for it..we got be honest the designer breeds are extremely popular and yes there are tons a pups at shelter, but where i live there are never any cute small mixed or purebred dogs, usually lab mixes shepards mixes etc..and no offense because they are all cute but thats not what i would have wanted, you have to PAY for what you want. then if you find something on say petfinder 9 times out of ten they cost the same as a akc, ckc registered purebred good line puppy or have all these stipulations, location, time, kids, age, blah blah...so for people who have kids cant usually adopt from small breed rescue groups, i do understand their reasons and their prices but it makes the decision to buy one some where else a little easier... but i dont like when people are rude about the mixes, for example im looking for a yorkie puppy right now..the first lady i talked to turnened me off instantly because when i was telling her about my mixed yorkie pom she said that is disgusting and why would some breed them and why would some one take them..(people like her flood the shelter, in my opinion) and of course she was a very picky person her stipulations to me were off the wall but she lost me with the digusting part...The designers are a big thing right now..got to admit it..it is not like getting a regular heinz 57, people are breeding them because people want them |
knowing what I know now and living with my babies... I would pay a ZILLION dollars for either one of them... I truly beleive "someone got in the henhouse" with Tooties mommy.. It really appears that he has some poodle in him.. I paid alot less for him than I did Hope but it would not have mattered what she was, I would have paid the same.. I wanted a baby girl YORKIE but I think the ATTACHMENT I felt when I saw her made up my mind for me... Just for the Record, I TRIED for months to rescue a baby and got refused by everyone for one reason or another or just didnt get a call back.... I am glad I have my babies no matter what the cost.... d |
WOW just chiming in ...Not really sure if I have anything to say that hasn't been....have been reading and lurking since I am new here... My gal (yorkie)Hermionie got loose and tied with a poodle so we are having yorkiepoos any day now.... I did a search with yorkiepoo on here and this was one of the threads shown I did check our local shelter for over a year for a small breed of dog...mixed or what have you before I got my Hermionie through a friend ...There were always alot of really big dogs which we could not have. I didn't have to pay a penny for her because the family just couldn't deal with her need for attention lol I love it myself :) I have no papers on her...they never offered any, and I didn't think to ask...So I am figuring that I will not even try to charge any certain amount for any pups.... As of right now we don't even know how many we will have and I am keeping one for sure :animal-pa |
