i've had it and im mad  i just went to weigh myself with my boss on the dock using a frt scale and let me tell you i gained another 7 pounds... im gonna start smoking again. there is no way im going to be or feel fat like this,, no way , just no way.. this is ridiculous...... no wonder why my pants are so darn tight.... this is the heaviest i have ever been... you guys are going to laugh at me, but this really bothers me..... i know i dont look heavy, but the scale dont lie.. i am so angry:mad:   ..now im getting depressed. this is what i get for not smoking... |
Aw I know how you feel. I've always been petite, and when I felt I was fat, others were not understanding. No one understood that it was the heaviest I've been my whole life, so while to them I look normal, to me I felt huge! That's always been a debate for me, quit smoking and gain weight, or keep smoking and lose wieght. It's real hard, especially if your trying to diet and quit smoking at the same time. Maybe everytime you crave a cigarrette eat something healthy, like grapes? At least that will cure the oral fixation. Good luck! |
Dont start smoking again, you will just regret it! If you are doing good without your cigs then dont go back to smoking. You will just find yourself trying to quit again. Just exercise every night before bed or in the morning when you wake up. Or everytime that you want a smoke do 10 crunches. Or if you want a snack bc you are craving a cig, then do 10 crunches! Just an idea. Stay strong, you dont want to go back to smoking. |
Unfortunately it happens but Gina your health is more important. Be aware of what you are eating or snacking on and try to cut calories that way. Smoking is really bad for you. I quit many years ago and still get the urge! Life is not easy at times and as we age we also gain weight. Meaning me not you, your still a youngen. Hang in there. Try not to get depressed and think about how healthy your lungs will get. It will level off but your going to have to be careful to watch your snacking because you might be compensating snacking in place of that ciggarette without realizing it. Stay strong. You won't be sorry. Lexi will have her mommy for many more years to come :D Carol & Buddy:aimeeyork |
I heard of this patch ( or was it a pill:confused: ) created spec. for women that helps them stop smoking and it regulates their weight so they don't gain excessively. I saw the infomercial for it on tv. Myabe someone here knows what I'm talking about. And I feel ya' pain, beacuse while I've never been a smoker I did gain 6 pounds thanks to Ben & Jerry and Pringles;) I lost 4 of the 6 pounds, but I'm struggling with these last 2:( |

my friends , you dont know me,,, im crazy when it comes to me weight... god knows that, thats why he never gave me children..... when i was 110 lbs i thought i looked fat and now at 135, im tipping the scale... not good, i just want to cry.. i cant handle this..... im a fat pig....and feel like that too.... i now look like humpy dumpy .. you know fat body with skinny legs.. thats me.... so everyone thinks im skinny, but they dont know whats behind the curtain..... |
I'm sorry Gina. :( We learned about that in DARE. But think about it for a minute before you pick up a ciggerette. You've been doing SO good. Don't go back - you'll regret it. After you've given up for good, you can always loose the weight. It's more dangerous for your health to smoke than to gain a little weight that you can loose again. You're not a fat pig at all. You're pretty and don't let yourself think otherwise! |
smoking is a disgusting habit! i would MUCH rather have a few extra pounds than smell like an ashtray all the time SERIOUSLY! yuck! |
ahhh thank you megan , your such a sweet girl.... i get so hungry sometimes that i chew on my finger nails. |
don't go back to smoking....I give you a lot of credit for quiting..I wish I could.....I am just as weight obsessed as you....Blame it on your BF...lol...thats my excuse for my weight gain....I was 105 when I met him then gradully up to 110 then 115 now I'm afraid to even know..... |
i am gonna blame him, he is to blame, when he comes over, we eat and eat and eat. we either order out or i cook and he is italian and always has to have a big meal if you know what i mean..... sometimes i dont mind if i dont see him everyday cause i get to eat cereal for dinner. low calorie.. soooooooooo ya see what i mean. and i have to eat when he is around.. |
i NEVER go by those numbers i go by the way i look if i look good then i dont worry you are not a fat pig !! |
well then i wil go by the way i look.... im fat..i look like the michelin tire man.. ...... i have more rolls than an italian bakery |

But if you really do feel that way, think about how you'll look if you smoke for a long time. Your teeth will turn yellow, eventually you won't be able to breathe well - it will feel like you're breathing through a straw. Your lungs will turn black. You could loose up to 10 years of your life. Think about those things, Gina. Would you rather have a few extra pounds, or the long-term, permanent, affects of smoking? |

i agree black lungs ,hacking cough, and ashtray breath is way more of a put off than a few extra pounds will EVER be! |

I smoke and everyday i smoke , i hate it, but its very addicting, you are doing great just by stopping ..... just relax and take one day at a time .. i know its easier said then done, and just try to eat healthy things when you eat, and try to walk, yoga, workout, whatever is best for you , But take my word on it, i admire you for stopping .... i just lost my father a few months ago from Lung cancer, he was a smoker, everyday i smoke a cig, i feel guilty, i wish you the best ...... Truly .... i know its frustrating to see you have gained weight ..... but thats better then alot of things that could happen to you ...keep your head up ...... be strong ... :) |
One day at a time. Your going to have your bad days! You are doing so good Gina!!! Think long and hard before you pick it up? You will lose it as soon as your body and brain settle dow. My mom quit and gained weight and it took her awhile to adjust now and now she is happy about how she feels and looks. You doing great girl!!! Just vent to us and let it all out. |
Please Gina, don't smoke again. I remember telling you on 4WT that you are just absolutely stunning. I've heard that right after you quit you gain a few pounds, but then it comes off. Take Lexi for more walks if it bothers you, but don't light up. You are way too beautiful in my opinion to start again. I wish I could stop completely and you give me inspiration!!:) |
Comon girl - I gained weight and SMOKE ! It happens - try to eat big salads before you eat a fattening meal and lots of water ...I want to quit but just don't have it in me right now - I already stopped going out like I used to (partying) and NEVER eat out anymore unless with friends but that's hardly ever cause I feel too guilty leaving my husband all the time -- so this is one vice I'm keeping for now lol even with my husband dying from smoking I still do - I always do it outside though - there's no smoking in my house ever. |
My dad had 2 heartattacks in one day as a result of smoking for like 30 years. When he quit, for the first 4-6 months, all he did was moan about gaining weight, but once he started eating better he lost it all and then some. He looks great now. You (well not you but in general) gain weight because you want something in your mouth, so you generally eat more, which is why the weight gain comes. Cigarrettes are an appetite suppressant, so when you get off you're more hungry. Just control your portions and maybe get your boyfriend to power walk with you around the neighborhood a few times a week. Smoking will not solve the problem because if you're this worried about how you look now, wait till you get yellow teeth and gross skin from smoking. Just eat better and excercise and have patients. It won't happen overnight but if you work really hard it will happen for you honey :D Just Pray for God to give you more strength and control :p |
Please don't pick up that cigarette!!! The weight will come off later!!! Having always been thin I started to puton weight the last year so I just started differenr exercise classes, Kickboxing, strength and resistance and I feel so much better. Muffin top is gone so try exercise it will make you feel better and help get rid of those extra smoking pounds. You look great!!! |
 I can't believe what you just posted...this may sound a little harsh but its the truth and i'm saying this cause I don't want you to smoke anymore:thumbdown Think about it..what would you rather have? A few extra pounds that you can lose with a little exercise OR black lungs, trouble breathing, yellow teeth, wrinkley skin, smell like cigerette, and worst of them all CANCER! I know its tough but try to think about your health before your image(not that you look bad I think you look great). One day all that will matter to you is how healthy you are. I can't stop you if you wanna ruin yourself with that crap go ahead :( but before you do(which I REALLY hope you don't) just PLEASE think about what we've all said. I don't even care if your mad at me I said this all for you cause I cared and I meant every last word. |
Hey, Don't frett!!! I know how it is I am short and if I put on 5 pounds I have a stroke. Five pounds on short people looks like twenty on the blessed tall people. try to eat healthier. Drink lots of water and don't give up. I do hope you won't start back smoking. I smoke and have tried every thing to quit. I am so bad I have that last cig and start having a panick attack. Good luck.:) |
My daughter was just on the patch. She was getting pain where the patch was and down her arm....one of her customers told her about this book (can't think of the name of it). The woman told my daughter that she smoked the entire time she read the book...when she was done reading the book she threw her cigarettes away and never picked one up again...and she didn't gain weight...she LOST weight...I had quit smoking, cold turkey, for 7 years..I went through a divorce and started up again...I felt so good when I didn't smoke...I want to quit again..and, like everyone else I don't want to gain weight either...right now probably isn't the greatest time...I have been out of work since May and can't find a job...I am going to borrow this book from my daughter and quit that way...hopefully I will lose and not gain either. If anyone is interested in this book let me know ...I will find out what the title is and post it here... |
Oh Please don't give uip. You already have the weight so no use going back to smoking now. When i quit, I sucked on Lemon Drops. I chose Lemon Drops because I knew I would not eat too many or my mouth would get sore. That was back before they had so many sugar free hard candies. I'd keep plenty of those on hand. |

When I quit cold turkey 23 years ago, I never told myself that I couldn't have another one. I carried a pack in my purse and had a full carton on top of my refrigerator. I took it one hour at a time. I'd tell myself to wait one hour, and by then I'd be busy, then when I got the craving I'd make myself wait one hour. that is what got me through. Because, like you, when I thought of never having another cigarette I'd panic. After the first day it gets easier because you know you can do it, and you become more determined. so make sure you have plenty of things lined up to keep you busy for the first day. I also crocheted, it's hard to smoke while crocheting |
