Mormon... So is my Husband and his other three wives... lol ;)
Just kidding... I've heard all of the jokes..
Its a great story so I'll tell it... We are converts, not raised Mormon, but not converted in quite the way most would think.....
My daughter was 6.. She had experienced a lot of loss on her fathers side of the family (my husband is her step father since she was 1 year old) And after funeral #3 she started asking me about heaven and god and where her grandpa was... I was not raised with a stich of religion so I had no answers for her.. I shrugged her off and changed the subject every time it came up...
one day she came running into the kitchen and yelled out, "Mommy, Mommy!!! The TV has a DBD!!! Its about Jesus!!" I was a bit taken back.. But she was very excited! And she went on to tell me that "It has the answers!!! It is going to tell me about God Mommy!!! And its FREE!!! All you have to do is call" So I told rolled my eyes and told her that the next time the ad came on to let me know... and she told me that she had the number! That she wrote it down!!! And sure enough.. in crayon... on the back of my electric bill.. she had the 800 number... So I took it and threw it aside and said I would call it later.. and she protested.. NO! You have to call now! I was really getting annoyed now.. so I grabbed the phone and dialed.. It was the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints!!!! The White Shirt Mafia!!! Oh no!!! So I gave them my address to send the dang tape! and then came the question that would be the deal breaker!!! "When would be a good time for the Missionaries to come by to deliver the Video and speak to you and your family?" What??? was she kidding?? Come by??? NO!!!!! Mail it!!! My daughter said noting about anyone coming by!!!! So I told them that this thing was not for me!! It was for my 6 year old!!! And she insisted that they would just drop it by... So I gave in and gave a time...
And the visits began.... The first visit was just two missionaries and my 6 year old! And it lasted two hours!! lol And they left dazed! She had talked their ears off and asked questions they were not prepared for! So they asked if they could come back and Katie begged... So I said sure... And I started sitting in with her... And we started attending, and when she was 8 she was baptized... and a year later my husband I were too....
A six year old child converted our family... My husband would have nothing to do with it till Katie decided to be baptized and then he started to pay attention... and I can't tell you what a difference it has made in our lives...
It has strengthened our family so much. I am so thankful that we have Heavenly Father in our lives. Brian and I plan to have our family sealed in the temple and would also like to be remarried and sealed to eachother. We did not have a proper wedding, so it would be nice to do this eventually..
I think that no matter the religion as long as you do good with your life and your goal is returning to heavenly father someday, and your living a life that will make that possible.... you can hold your head high no matter what label you give yourself!
I'm Proud to be a Latter Day Saint... Even with all the Jokes.... Heck, what I wouldn't give for a few other wives... There sure is plenty of housework to go around! ;) |
