Room ideas...please! 2 Attachment(s) My daughter is getting a new room "makeover" as part of her Christmas. She is wanting something more "grown-up", but still girly and fun! Her main thoughts are a Paris theme and fashion. We have a dressform and some old fashion prints and are getting a really neat Eiffel Tower lamp from JC Penny's. We are doing a little seating arrangement too..... I just had a question about the colors and bedding....and thought someone on here could give some honest opinions and thoughts. This bed spread is what she picked out......it is a soft tan w/ fuzzy black designs....very classy, but do you think if we added some bright pink to it, if it would still look okay? How about if we added pink and zebra print too? (not much, just for a splash of fun and color)? - maybe like some throw pillows and the bed skirt being the bright pink or zebra print? Attachment 76279 The sitting area.....we couldn't find a love seat that we really liked. We found a nicer black leather one that folded into a bed, but it was alittle pricey (imagine that). She found this and liked it because it is (in her words) funky and modern. ---remember, she is my 12 year old designer! ;) It is adjustable in six positions, one being a bed. She also has a bright pink suede papison type chair. Oh, I think the silver pillows could be covered in pink or even a tan to match the bed color or do you think silver is fine? What thoughts or ideas do you have? Attachment 76280 One last thing (sorry so long)......her queen bed will fit in her dormer and that dormer wall and the 1/2 wall on that side of the room, we were thinking of painting it a bright pink w/ maybe black designs or just plain pink. Then the other three walls (one being 18 ft. - her room is on the sloped edge of the house) maybe being painting in a tan to match the tan in the bed spread. What do you think???? |
well just want to tell you, you have great taste, just like mine.. and the tan color would be just perfect.... those are my colors and my ideas for a excellent decor......  |
i loveeee pink and think everything could use a little pink but zebra would be too much and wouldn't really match |
I think you are off to a great start with the colors - pink and black look so awesome together and tan is just a neutral shade to maybe help balance the 2. Not sure of the leopard print though. But I'm sure whatever the two of you come up with will be great. You'll have to post pics of her room before and after the makeover. Good luck and congrats to your daughter on the room makeover:) |
Love the comforter!!! I'd like to have that for myself! I would paint the walls pink and maybe throw a pink accent in here or there but leave it basically black & white. As far as the zebra, I think it will make the room too "busy" mixing those patterns and the bedding is too pretty for that. UNLESS.....you put a zebra pillow on the loveseat. That would be cute. |
Thanks everyone! I was kind of hoping to do w/o the zebra print and that wasn't a main concern for her....she just wanted to throw some "shock" into the room. BUT like AmyLou said, the sitting area might look good w/ some zebra print, since it will pretty much be all black and if the walls are pink.....it would need something else over there......I just don't want to overdose on PINK! So does everyone think the walls should all be pink? I didn't know if I should break it up or do the neutral tan or what? Isn't there some sort of virtual room thing online somewhere that you can change the wall colors and move around a room? I swear I have seen that somewhere? Oh, with the bed, should we stick to the black bed skirt? I didn't know if I should put a pink one there or leave it alone? The bed is pictured w/ white sheets, so we will have maybe a set of white and maybe pink? It is so hard to decide because you just don't know what it will look like until you get it in there! One more thing.....in the dormer area, she was wanting to either do some short of material to hang over the ceiling and drape down to the end of the bed ----kind of like a canopy, but just a long sheer or silk material that is hanging over the bed attached to the ceiling and then down to the end of the bed. If we do that....what color? Black if we do pink walls and vice/versa? |

Do you have any rooms in your house these colors? or ideas what you would do? Sure could use some help! |
Your daughter sure has great taste and ideas. How about adding red to those colors. It would give the cool colors, blk, tan some flash. Paint one wall red, Benjamin Mooe has great reds to choose from then cover a couple of throws in a red fabric. Maybe add some red silk roses on the end tables or dresser. Good luck and show us the finished results. Carol & Buddy |
4 Attachment(s) Oh, we found some curtains to go over the bed...I was just going to drape sheer material or silk or something over the ceiling and down the side, but we found these.....I just didn't know what color would go w/ the bedspread..... Attachment 76687 Attachment 76688 Attachment 76690 - the bed spread Also, we found this fabric, but didn't know if it would look good or not....doesn't have to be used for curtains, but maybe throw pillows, table clothes, bulletin board cover...something.....what do you think? Or should we bypass it? Attachment 76689 |
more ideas......... 4 Attachment(s) Attachment 76691 Attachment 76692 We really liked these two pillows (above)...they are $20 each and the colors we are looking for (one will have a "K" on it).... Attachment 76693 She likes this pillow (above), but we just need to get a pink one...I think she likes the balls hanging around the edges Attachment 76694 This is a bed skirt we found, but we would get the darker pink one.....Actually, I think we will make it... Would these look good w/ the bedspread? Still haven't figured out if I wanted to paint the whole room pink or half or what.....boy, such a hard choice........would LOVE to hire an interior designer but would hate to pay $40-80 an hour!!! (which, I'm sure they are worth it) - just rather have that extra money put back in the room. |

Well I love Black and pink together so I think your heading in a good direction.. I have never thought of tan and pink together... I would go to a paint store and get the paint samples they give away free... find the colors your thinking of and look at them together mixing and matching them... It is a free way to see the colors your thinking of. Also when you paint a room you might want to first see what the colors look like through out the day because the light in the room changes as the sun moves... Put the color squares on the wall and check them through out the day to see how they will look. |
I would paint the room a very light pink... I would do darker brighter pink for the pillows and bed skirt. Of course i would have to see the colors all together before I decided for sure... Maybe buy a small swatch of material for pillows and bed skirt... tuck a corner in under the mattress and see what you think. It's hard to decide before seeing it. |

I thought there was some online virtual room makeover thing where I could upload a picture and images, but I haven't found one yet. I have a home desgn software program (from when we built our house, but I think it is just for houseplans)...I might dig it out and see what it can do. Thanks for your ideas! |
No Problem! I love this stuff... I redid my daughters room a few times as a kid and again last year. This time we went for the I dream of Jennie look... Bright colors like pink, purple, turquoise... She has throw pillows all over her bed. Too bad she can't keep it clean for even one day! If she ever cleans it I'll try to take a pic for you! ( She is 18 and very busy with boyfriend, finding and applying to college, school work, friends & SHOPPING!!!!) No time for cleaning her room! |
If it were me I would stay away from the bright pink...I think it will over power the other colors....maybe stick with a softer pink. |

3 Attachment(s) Here are some pictures of stuff we bought.... We have the complete bed spread and everything w/ it and the dressform (black w/ black wood stand). We were told to go w/ tan or cream walls......this way, if we painted the walls pink, you kind of have to stay w/in that pink color for all the accessories. So, I think we will go w/ a neutral color wall (which will go w/ the bedding) and all all sorts of pink colored accessories (not having to stick w/ one shade of pink). ---plus, other colors too! Attachment 76878 - found this set of pillows (2 small, 2 large) at a consigment store (4 for $24.95), they are cream color (looks white from my flash) w/ tan backs. - These might go in the sitting area. Attachment 76879 - 2 metal wall art pictures...cream w/ hints of light pink and black...bought at Hobby Lobby for 1/2 off....which made them ONLY $3.75 each!!!! Attachment 76880 - black satin hat box w/ light pink satin ribbon (inside is pink satin). This was bought at the consignment shop where we found the pillows....the hat box was ONLY $3!!!!! |
Sounds really cute. I searched last week for Paris accessories and came up with TONS!!! You shouldn't have a hard time at all if you aren't doing strictly pink. But I do have to say......she needs a pink poodle in there somewhere! |
Quote:
Regarding the pink poodle......she is hoping for a black one! Really!!! She toys wth the idea of a female Yorkie or Poodle.......she just has to talk her Daddy into it!!! I'll keep posting pictures and definitely post when it is finished....might be awhile, but it will get there! |
Definitely....stick to light pink...that is very French when mixed with black...avoid the hot pink except for accents here and there....otherwise you risk having her room look like a Victoria's Secret store. |
Quote:
Oh no........  we don't want that for her room!:( Her daddy definitely wouldn't like that.....at all!!! Thanks for that.....I do think the light pink will look good and then a splash of bold color here and there. |

My opinions, and nothing more. For over the bed, I would do black. The bed skirt is too shiny for the bedspread, I think it will take away from the elegance of the bedspread; I would do something heavier and less shiny. I would use the lighter pink as my predominant pink and use touches of the brighter pink in pillows and other accessories. Brights are extremely hard to match where lights you can get away with more shades in the color spectrum. Different tones of brights tend to fight each other and you might not end up with the look you were after. Hope that makes sense to you. I would go with light tan walls and if the sitting area is in an alcove or something, you might consider painting that area a light pink. I love the chaise and all the accessories and pillows you picked out. Love the shoes and the whole look of fashion, it flows beautifully with the bedspread. Then again, I have worked in the Fashion Industry for my entire career, so I might be a bit biased. If you have a Burlington Coat store near you, they have some great accessories in the exact look you are going for. You must be having a blast I love decorating. Doing it with your daughter whom just happens to have great taste is an added bonus. Have fun……… PS I will admit I did not read the entire thread, so if I am being repetitive, sorry |
We do have a Burlington Coat Factory in Tulsa (it is about 2 1/2 hours away), so not too far. We might need to check it out. The bedspread came w/ a heavy textured bed skirt that we are going to use and we did also decide NOT to paint the walls pink...they will be a tan or creamy color. We also decided to go w/ all light pink w/ maybe a few brighter ones thrown in (just depends). The bed will be in an alcove, but do you think it will look good w/ the walls painted a light antique looking pink w/ the bedspread there? Thanks for all the advice.....look forward to hearing more!!! |
It would look very pretty as long as you can find a pink that would flow well with the color of the “creamy” walls, and of course pillows with pink accents on the bed. If you want a contrast wall for the alcove you might want to consider a deeper tone of whatever color you choose for the walls. At all paint stores, they have cards with 5-6 colors on the same card that are in the same color hue. Whatever you decide I’m sure it will be lovely….. |
Will you come do my room? I'm so jealous. My store looks like a thrift store :) nothing goes, but it's all functional. LOL |

We are really over doing it in her room....she is 12 and growing up fast. We wanted her to fill girly, but grown up and classy too! Luckily, she has a good eye for what looks good.....now, only if we can get it together where it looks good! |
