tater tot casserole, sloppy joes, cheeseburger macaroni

my2boyz 10-26-2006 02:32 PM

I just started a big pot of chili...it's great topped with shredded cheese and chopped onions with sweet cornbread and real butter on the side or in the bottom of the bowl. Mmmmmm!

There's always meatloaf with a crusted topping made of ketchup, brown sugar and mustard. Oh wait...I think we're only supposed to make that when there's a hurricaine on the way! ;)

Mushroom cheese beef steaks. Pattie up hamburgers and cook them in the skillet. Drain the fat but leave some grease in the skillet. Add a couple oof cans of cream of mushroom soup. Dont dillute it with water or milk. Let it cook untill it gets hot. Put a pattie and some of the sauce in a bowl top with shredded cheese, diced tomatoes and diced green onions or scallons. This is a really good recipe and they used to serve it at a restaurant I used to work at.

This is an oldie....but everyone loves it!

It is called S--t on the Shingles.....

Peel and cook potatoes for mashing later.

Fry hamburger with a little onion....till brown. Salt, pepper.
Mix up a little flour/water/milk mixture. Like you are making gravy for thanksgiving....You want it very runny...do not use a lot of flour, maybe a tablespoon......(so that it will thicken as it cooks.)
Slowly add this to cooked hamburger in pan. Keep stiring.
Add a capful of Gravy Master....you can find at grocery store. Do not use a lot...use the cap from the actual bottle of GM. This will color the hamburger to a medium brown.

Then very slowly add more water to the above mixture while it cooks. What you want is a medium soupy hamburger mixture. Cover with lid, to simmer. You do NOT want it too thick, it needs to be able to spoon over mashed potatoes., or toast.

All the above takes about 20 minutes.....including the potatoes.

This is the easiest dinner, kids love it, my brothers love it.....

This was my Dad's favorite when he was alive......I think of him when I make it.......
:)

LOVE that website!

If you google ground beef recipe or something like that, you will get TONS!

I use alot of ground meats for chili, stew, casseroles, etc. I won't even start w/ recipes, because I would take up this whole thread! (I LOVE RECIPES)

Get a box of Bisquick baking mix - it has lots of recipies on the back and some always include hamburger. It's quick and easy and usually really good.

I make Spanish rice with hamburger and it is a main dish. Brown hamb and onion (and green pepper if you like). Then add whatever Mexican seasonings that you like - red pepper, cumin, jalapeno, salsa, green chiles, whatever (you can also add a can of Rotel). Add a can of tomato sauce and then 1/2 cup or 1 cup of minute rice (depending on how "ricey" you like it). Add some water (match the amount of rice with the tomato sauce and water - if 1 cup of rice, then 1 cup of combo tomato sauce/water) and simmer on low till the rice is softened and moisture is absorbed. Stir occasionally and add more water, if needed.

Wide Egg Noodles, ground beef, cream corn, salt pepper and shredded cheese. Fastest easiest dinner that everyone in my house loves.

Here's another quick and easy fix with ground burger:

1 pound ground burger
1 box Velveeta Shell's & Cheese (any brand will do as long as it's NOT powder cheese in the box, must be the creamy cheese)
2 cups water
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup ketchup

Brown burger and drain. Add water, milk, and ketchup to burger and stir in the shells from the box. Cook over medium heat for about 10-12 minutes til shells are done. Remove from heat, stir in the cheese and serve:) For a little spice, you can add a can of rotel tomatoes instead of the ketchup. This is like making a hamburger helper meal - but it tastes better (at least to me it does).

I have a couple more and plan to use some of the ideas already posted.

Poor-Man's Stroganoff

Sauted onions
Browned hamburger meat (drained)
One can cream of mushroom or cream of chicken soup
One small tub of sour cream
One can (drained) water chestnuts (optional)

Spoon over cooked noodles.

Hamburger Steaks

Saute one or two sliced onions (we loooove onions!) and remove from pan
Cook hamburger patties until done
Add onions back to pan
Mix up brown gravy mix with water (enough for two cups) and add to pan
Simmer for a short time.
Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles and another veggie if you like.

This is my son's absolute favorite.

That sounds really good! I'll have to try it!

Ppl keep these recipes coming! I appreciate the links, but I want to know for sure that something's tried and true before I make it! LOL!

cindy0721 10-27-2006 06:47 AM

wow... who would have thought sooo sooo many meals could be made with ground beef!

Shadow 10-27-2006 06:49 AM

I love SOS. :) How about dorito casserole, just google that and a bunch will come up. I love hamburger meat more than steak.

RowdysMom 10-27-2006 07:26 AM

My husband loves a simpler SOS recipie

I just brown ground beef - add salt and pepper - then enough flour to make gravy (think it is one tablespoon per cup of liquid) and then enough milk to make the gravy. So you essentially have hamburger gravy (instead of sausage gravy) and I serve it over biscuits.

I buy the frozen biscuits so that I can cook only 2-3 at a time - since I CANNOT eat this meal - it is waaaaay too calorie laden for me.

RowdysMom 10-27-2006 07:28 AM

I also make hamburger pizza - I use Jiffy pizza crust mix - it makes a very good pizza crust. I buy the pizza sauce in the jar - fry up the hamburger - roll out the crust, pour on the sauce, drizzle the browned hamburger, and then cheese on top - very quick and really good. I usually put on onions, green peppers, mushrooms, etc - anything else that you might like.

Tacos

Nachos

Meat Loaf

Hamburger Stroganoff

Brown your ground beef and drain off the excess grease. Add your favorite "cream of" soup (I usually use Cream of Mushroom) along with a half can of water. Heat it through and through and serve it over pasta, rice or creamed potatoes.
Teri
PS...Everybody elses suggestions were great too! Makes me want to cook...LOL.

yorkieusa 10-27-2006 08:24 AM

You can make vegetable soup with ground beef instead of chopping your beef.:D It tastes better.

LuvMySissy 10-27-2006 08:33 AM

Hamburger Pie

One of my all time favorites mom used to make! You can find it probably in any cookbook under Shepherd's Pie, but I don't like it with a pie crust. Our's is simpler anyway (looks gross, but tastes yummy)!!

Brown ground beef, drain fat
In same pan, add spices, onions to taste, a can of tomato sauce, and tomato paste, simmer.
In the meantime, either boil potatoes to mash or use instant.
In casserole dish, put ground beef mixture into bottom of dish
Layer thickly on top of the beef, the vegetable of your choice (I like green beans - use frozen or canned)
On top of the vegetables, layer the mashed potatoes.
Add more tomato sauce on top of the potatoes and cheese, if desired.

Bake at 350 for 45 minutes, scoop and serve!!!!!!

That's how my friend makes it (no cheese). I brown my meat and cook my tots at the same time. I add the soup to the meat and keep it at a simmer. When tots are done, I cut 'em up like you would to brown meat, mix it all together and put it in the oven at 350 for a bit.

I'll have to try it with cheese next time, sounds good.

yorkieusa 10-27-2006 09:58 AM

Here are lots of ground beef recipes:

http://southernfood.about.com/od/hamburgcasseroles/

You'll see cabbage rolls toward the bottom and that is something I make occasionally. I just use my meatloaf recipe to fill them. You can also make stuffed peppers and I use my meatloaf recipe to fill the peppers, too. Delicious!:)

Tiggerwit 10-27-2006 12:52 PM

Did anyone say hamburger gravy over mashed spuds?
