I have a couple more and plan to use some of the ideas already posted. Poor-Man's Stroganoff Sauted onions Browned hamburger meat (drained) One can cream of mushroom or cream of chicken soup One small tub of sour cream One can (drained) water chestnuts (optional) Spoon over cooked noodles. Hamburger Steaks Saute one or two sliced onions (we loooove onions!) and remove from pan Cook hamburger patties until done Add onions back to pan Mix up brown gravy mix with water (enough for two cups) and add to pan Simmer for a short time. Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles and another veggie if you like. This is my son's absolute favorite. |
Here's a great site for lots of information. http://foodgeeks.com/ |
Tator tot casserole. Brown and drain hamburger. Add one can of cream of mushroom soup and a little bit of onion. Heat until warm. Put in bottom of 8x8 or 9x9 pan. Add tator tots to cover top. Cook on 400 until tatot tots are brown. Add velveta cheese to top. Cook until melted. My kids love it. |

Ppl keep these recipes coming! I appreciate the links, but I want to know for sure that something's tried and true before I make it! LOL! |
wow... who would have thought sooo sooo many meals could be made with ground beef! |
I love SOS. :) How about dorito casserole, just google that and a bunch will come up. I love hamburger meat more than steak. |
My husband loves a simpler SOS recipie I just brown ground beef - add salt and pepper - then enough flour to make gravy (think it is one tablespoon per cup of liquid) and then enough milk to make the gravy. So you essentially have hamburger gravy (instead of sausage gravy) and I serve it over biscuits. I buy the frozen biscuits so that I can cook only 2-3 at a time - since I CANNOT eat this meal - it is waaaaay too calorie laden for me. |
I also make hamburger pizza - I use Jiffy pizza crust mix - it makes a very good pizza crust. I buy the pizza sauce in the jar - fry up the hamburger - roll out the crust, pour on the sauce, drizzle the browned hamburger, and then cheese on top - very quick and really good. I usually put on onions, green peppers, mushrooms, etc - anything else that you might like. |

Hamburger Stroganoff Brown your ground beef and drain off the excess grease. Add your favorite "cream of" soup (I usually use Cream of Mushroom) along with a half can of water. Heat it through and through and serve it over pasta, rice or creamed potatoes. Teri PS...Everybody elses suggestions were great too! Makes me want to cook...LOL. |
You can make vegetable soup with ground beef instead of chopping your beef.:D It tastes better. |
Hamburger Pie One of my all time favorites mom used to make! You can find it probably in any cookbook under Shepherd's Pie, but I don't like it with a pie crust. Our's is simpler anyway (looks gross, but tastes yummy)!! Brown ground beef, drain fat In same pan, add spices, onions to taste, a can of tomato sauce, and tomato paste, simmer. In the meantime, either boil potatoes to mash or use instant. In casserole dish, put ground beef mixture into bottom of dish Layer thickly on top of the beef, the vegetable of your choice (I like green beans - use frozen or canned) On top of the vegetables, layer the mashed potatoes. Add more tomato sauce on top of the potatoes and cheese, if desired. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes, scoop and serve!!!!!! |

That's how my friend makes it (no cheese). I brown my meat and cook my tots at the same time. I add the soup to the meat and keep it at a simmer. When tots are done, I cut 'em up like you would to brown meat, mix it all together and put it in the oven at 350 for a bit. I'll have to try it with cheese next time, sounds good. |
Here are lots of ground beef recipes: http://southernfood.about.com/od/hamburgcasseroles/ You'll see cabbage rolls toward the bottom and that is something I make occasionally. I just use my meatloaf recipe to fill them. You can also make stuffed peppers and I use my meatloaf recipe to fill the peppers, too. Delicious!:) |
Did anyone say hamburger gravy over mashed spuds? |
