The Flu I just wanted to make sure everyone has their flu shots for them and their family. I got the flu friday and am pretty much better now but now both my girls have it...and let me tell ya...it sucks. They are both under 3 and they are throwing up everywhere, have severe diarhea like pure water, and will not eat or drink anything. Get your shots asap |
Oh wow Thanks for the heads up. I def do not want my girls getting it. First thing in the morning I am calling the pediatrician. I hope your girls start feeling better soon. |

thank you..they should be better by tomorrow:) |
Hope you and the girls are better soon. I don't know if the flu shot helps with the stomach flu but it's worth a shot!! |

HAHAHA...that was kinda clever...flu shot...worth a shot haha...im lame but that was funny to me |
Glad you got a laugh!! I hate the flu especailly when kids get it and your sick Ughhh!! |
Does anyone know how long after you get the shot you are protected? My husband has congestive heart failure complete with pacemaker/defibrillator and he was supposed to get his flu shot before we leave for our cruise next week and he hasn't done it yet. Someone told me they thought it was too late to protect him on the cruise now. I was hoping some of our medical personnel  could tell me if he should go ahead & get it before we leave now or wait until we get back? |
I wouldn't advise everyone to get a flu shot, as some people actually are more prone to getting sick after getting the flu shot. Being sick is the worst, and you take being "normal" for granted until you are sick and slumped over with your head on the toiletseat. :D |
Uh oh! I hope your little ones feel better soon. The flu is NEVER fun :( :thumbdown |

I'm so sorry your babies are sick!! That is worse then you being sick....at least for me it is!:( Sending get well vibes your way!! It seems that where I'm at they aren't getting the shot anywhere till almost Thanksgiving! I got mine at my college on Friday though! They wouldn't let my daughter get one though since she's not a student, so I'm hoping to find one somewhere for her before Thanksgiving! |
wow that seems kinda late to get them...but i guess flu season hasnt hit fully yet so they arent in such a hurry...people are getting them all over here and all the docs offices have tons of them...they offer shots for free every friday at my kids' doc office for people that dont have insurance...we have it but he said we could get it for free cuz of our copay...things are ok here for the time being...we are talking again and trying to figure out a way things can work...the girls are sleeping finally and im hoping that they wont wake up in the middle of the night...this is kinda funny....i called the tell-a-nurse at their doc office and her solution for them to help them keep hydrated was to give them 3-4 teaspoons of watered down poweraid every 5 min for 8 hours...how rediculous is that...no person that runs a household can do that...i almost had to laugh in her face for that...but i did notice that the only time they throw up is when they drink alot at a time...well at least for rylee...my oldest...mckinzy has thrown up a few more times then rylee but thank god since shes smaller, her tummy is smaller too haha...i just hope they sleep through the night and no wake up pukes haha...thank you all for your kind words |
My doctor said it takes about 2 weeks before you are covered and should not get the flu. But I think it is for the respiratory type of virus. Good luck, just ask your medical people? |
I'm so sorry your little ones are sick:( Hope they get to feeling better soon! Doortega: I would contact the doctor for advice on the flu shot. I wouldn't think it would be too late to get it but....his doctor can advise best:) Have a BLAST on your cruise!! Personally, I don't get the flu shot and I work in a hospital (not with direct patient care, though). It's not that I'm afraid of needles cause heaven knows when I'm sick, I want the shot!! It just seems to me that each year they administer the flu shot, it's a different strain that affects everyone....so, I just take my chances and so far *knocks on wood* I've been lucky. |

I'm much better now but it was a rough 5 days! |
Hope all of you hit with the flu are feeling better soon. |
I hope you are all feeling better today. Being sick totally sucks, but is even worse when you have other problems going on as well. I hope this new week brings peace and harmony to your family. Flu shots just starting being available in Michigan two weeks ago. I will be getting mine next week. Please keep in mind that you are not only giving yourself added protection, but you are protecting others you might come in contact with also. |
The flu shot is for influenza, not the stomach flu. Influenza is a terribly bad cold, cough, body aches, fever, etc. that lasts for a couple weeks and can have complications like pneumonia. That's why they recommend kids and elderly and people with asthma get it first. There is no shortage this year and they are offering them everywhere. It does NOT cause you to get sick - although I usually feel crappy the day after getting the shot and need to sleep it off. I always get it on a Friday so I can sleep the next day if I feel like it. You can still get the flu since they only put this year's most common strains in the vaccine - there might be a strain that you get that you were not vaccinated for. I get my shot every year and IF I get the flu I get it for a couple days when everyone else gets it for a week. I'm not a "medical person" I just get my shot every year so I've looked into it :) Oh and those afraid of needles can get "FluMist" so that's no excuse. More info |
