first of all they dont just open up kill shelters to kill animals, they do it to try and help out the endless population of unwanted animals...second most of them are either goverment owned or private nonprofit organizations, goverment could pay to keep these animals alive but the private ones cant keep them all and feed them all and care for them all especially if no noe is going to adopt them, they know which ones will and will not be adopted...most shelters are filled with pits and pit mixes b/c nobody wants them b/c of their bad rap...private org work soley on donations from the public and when theres no room for more then what do they do? they have to put them to sleep b/c they cant afford and they dont have the space to keep them alive its not that they are bad people they are trying their best to help animals... |
also about the free or lowcost spa/neuter programs, while they are great and all and encourage people to do it, if someone cant afford to routine care for their dog, they shouldnt own one, i hate to put it like that but theres more to a dog than food and spaying/neutering theres vaccines monthly flea/heartworm prevention, and what if it gets sick? thats how some end up in shelters or put to sleep b/c they cant afford the care, dogs arent for everyone people should think everything through first and be financially stable for a dog just like they would for a child |

Like others have said in a perfect world there wouldnt be a need for kill shelters. Im all for the no kill shelters but.... The one near me I donate things to all the time and there are some cats in there who have lived there in a small cage for over 10 years. Thats not a life. Can you imagine spending your entire life in a cage hoping for a home. At least these caged animals are loved by the shelter workers, unlike puppy mills :( |
