Okay I'm in the market for a small female Maltese to join my two yorkies. I was having a very hard time trying to find reasonable prices with the Maltese( yorkies seems to sale for a little less).

I ran across this web site puppymatch.org she's a private breeder. And she has this little girl available for $500.00:eek: :eek: :eek:

The little girl is so cute, but the first question out of my mouth to the breeder was "Why charge so less, when everyone else is charging about 2k+?"

I asked for references, she putting it in the mail tomorrow.

What do you guys think??

What should I ask them?

I want to get her so bad, I hope everything doesn't turn out to good to be true.

Too many different breeds in one kennel to suit me..if a breeder is only charging $500 for a popular breed as a Maltese, then they have to make it up in volume...

PS..talk to her vet and make sure itis really her vet...and as to contacting people who bought..do you think a breed is going to give the number any unhappy buyers..? You can sell 50 pups..you can have 10 happy buyers and 40 unhappy buyers..

yes , she should be 4 to 5 lbs but the pups adult weight can be unpredictable too can also get fat. . In the area that I live in puppies are priced cheaper. The prices I ask online are reasonable to me. I price pups so that they can be sold easily instead of holding them until they are grown. My puppies are CKC registered. The price you paid for Yorkies sound about like what they go for on the internet. I have one for $900 myself but i do not really care if I sell her or not because I have become so attrched to her . I am in the process of looking up the e-mails of the last pups I shipped I will send them in a few.

I sent her email asking for the vet information,so we shall see if she's a genuine good person who really isn't out to make $$$ or if she's trying to sell me a sick pup.


Here is the email I sent to her references (how do you think it sounds)

I'm looking into purchasing a female Maltese from Deborah. She gave me your name as a reference, I was wondering if you could give me a little feed back on her pups & doing business with her. Was your pup healthy? Has your puppy remained within the size & measure anticipated by Deborah? Does he/she have nay medical existing medical problem? How was their temperament when he/she arrived? Were your emails answered in a timely fashion from Deborah? Can you contact her today with any problem (house training, feeding, etc) and will she still lend a helping hand? And last would you recommend her to a future buyer?

I am getting two female maltese the end of this month and they cost $500 each as well.
If the pup is CKC registered then that could explain the price, CKC sells less than a puppy that is AKC registered. Or like she said that is the normal price. Here maltese start at $400 and go up.

Also get the Bile Acid test done too. I have heard that Liver Shunts is more common in the Maltese than Yorkies. Also you are aware of how much grooming goes into a Maltese? A lot more than yorkies - Maltese always get dirty - so fast and they tear stain and is a job to get rid of or prevent. They are cute though. I had one from Glynnette Case - breeder of Malteses. Also Joyce Watkins of Marcris breeds/shows Malteses. They are both in Florida. I would highly recommend them.

In Texas you can get Maltese anywhere from $500 and up
 

I wouldn't be scared off because of the price. But, I definitely check with the references and her Vet.

If they all turn out good, then I think it should be fine.

Looks good to me. Some breeders do charge less, my mother sold her siamese kittens for $50 every now and then just to find them homes fast. The lady looks like she knows what she's doing and $500 seems like a fair enough price, but not so cheap that you'd really have to worry.

She can have any of her friends be a reference. I don't know about Maltese breeders, but just be careful. How is she asking you to pay? If it's cash, money order, or Western Union, NO WAY!!! It's a scam.

She just sent me her vet information, I'm going to call tom. I'm still waiting for her references to get back to me.

She seems okay, but i don't wan to jump to soon.

As far as the tear stains, what can be done? I was told removing the eye ducks but that sounds kind of painful

I don't accept Western Union, but when I deal with potential owners I want cash or money order and I give a receipt to the buyer so they have proof of what they are paying for. I do not accept checks because people have been known to cancel their checks right after. So I wouldn't say if she is asking for Cash or Money order that it is a scam. Western Union I would believe is a scam.

Yeah, but you probably get paid in person, right? Nobody should EVER pay cash or money order to anyone for anything (for a lot of money) unless they know the person is 110% legit. There's no way to track it.

Do you have pictures of her parents?
How long have you been breeding?
What registration does she come with?
Are they paper trained or litter trained when they go home?
Are the dogs kept in your home or in kennels?
What type of food do you feed your dogs and puppies?
Will she have a shot record?
Could you please give me some references of other families who have purchased puppies from you?
What type of contract, conditions or guarantees are involved in the sale of the Maltese puppy?
Can she be checked for LP and hernias before she is shipped?
Could you give me your primary vet's number

-I am listing little Beth for the breeders. They are an Amish family and I have been listing for them for about 6 months. They are really wonderful people. I go out and take the pictures for them in hopes to get these babies in family homes.
-I didn't take any pictures of her parents when I was out there Thursday. But the mom is as cute as can be!
-Beth is APR registered.
-She will not be paper trained or litter trained and would need to be worked with on that when she gets to your home.
-They have a small kennel at their house. Beth is in an indoor/outdoor kennel and would be considered crate trained.
-I believe they feed Nutri Source Pet Food.
-Absolutely, she will have a shot record and it will be mailed to you along with the registration papers, so that they don't get lost on the crate.

The only way I would take a pup from the AMISH breeder is if it was a rescue..I rescued too many Amish millers pups in MD..bad news. Dogs were raised like chickens in a coup or barn...peopel have the mistaken idea that the AMISH are all good, God fearing Christians and would not abuse animals..not so..

There is NEVER a reason not to have photo's of the parents..even cut down is accpetable..but a good breeder grows a coat, takes photo's and then they can trim a coat if they want, IMO...anyway, pictures are only as honest as the picture taker..who knows if they are the correct parents..

I know you want a puppy at a low price..BUT save your money, go to a reputable breeder and meet them in sperson..or got to Maltese rescue..good luck

And last this was the email I got rom the breeder of the original pup I posted about. Her vet gave her the thumbs up, but I'm still waiting to hear back from her references.

do have pics of the parents. I have been breeding for over 10 years full time before that part time.
She comes with CKC registration. I can say that the puppies have been started weewee pad training before they leave. You cannot expect much from a tiny puppy but I do start them. I keep the moms and pups inside in kennels and take them out to potty. After they have weaned their pups I pup them out on concrete runs that have access to warm houses it is also partly covered to protect from extreme heat and rain. puppy chow and Iams. This pup will be on Iams puppy. My pups do come with a shot record I carry them to the vet after they are weaned. I give you a 72 hour health guarantee to get the pup to the vet. If the vet finds any reason for replacement I don't argue I just replace or give you the money back. I cannot refund shipping because I did not keep that money. depending on what is wrong with the pup I may pay to ship it back to myself. My vet does check the knees of the pup. I can say that he is very good and does check for hernias, heart conditions and knees before they are cleared to fly. If he finds a problem and you have already paid me I just notify you and return the money. One ladys pup did have a knee problem and I she still wanted the pup so I gave it to her at a discount. maybe the people will get back with you soon. Thanks, Deborah

a breeder gave me a #of a lady that was not happywith him
 

a breeder for toy poodle gave me phone numbers i looked it up and he only had 1 person say bad things and all she said was yes the poodle is very healthy but she was mad cause he liked her husband best so she returned him to the breeder and he gave her another puppy same thing so he just gave her money back and he homed that puppy so a good breeder will give you the good and bad customers

cute puppies.Maltese pups are about 250-500 here, not much money for them.Yorkies and king charles are the most $.
We have alot of Amish here also,I HATE the way they take care of thier animals and thier KIDS.Seen the kids walking to school the other day and NO shoes it was 42 degrees.
I would rescue all their horses and cows if I could.Do not know of any of them that sells dogs around here that is a good thing!
