How would you react? I went for beers with a friend after work today and a man walked in the bar that I recognized immediately, then he sat down right behind me. It was none other than Rusty Yates - Andrea Yates' ex-husband. I don't want to elevate him to celebrity status, but I was overcome by emotion. Part of me wanted to turn around, poor my beer in his lap, slap the s**t out of him and give him a piece of my mind. The other part felt nothing but pity; sorry that he lost his children, sorry that he lost his wife, sorry that he lost the life he had built. I must admit, the former got me. It just seems so sad that there he is, living a life with a new wife, and the mother of his five children is simply existing in a home, never to return to normalcy, and he's sitting in a bar laughing it up with his friends. I'm sorry, but I feel he is as much to blame as she is. You just don't live day in and day out with someone suffering that way and not notice. This could have turned out so much different if he had only taken the time. |
ahhhhhhhhhhhhh................thats a hard one, sad, thats all i can say. sad.......... |
I agree, he knew she was having problems, and their parents knew that she was having problems. He had her squished into a tiny trailer with 5 small children. Who wouldn't go nuts. But I would have sat there an not said a word either way, because it is all over and done. He may have known she was having problems, but on the other hand who would think that the person you loved would kill your children. That, in my mind is inconceivable. If you believe in God I guess you have to believe that it was Gods will. Those little angels came to earth with a message, and their job was over. May we all be better parents, grand parents, aunts, uncles, and friends, because of what those children suffered. |
I agree with you I just don't understand why he didn't step in and doing anything instead they kept having children. That's really really sad:( |
I agree it's really sad, the little children oh it just breaks my heart to even think about it. God will judge her and her ex husband that's not my place. |
Is this the guy and his wife...she killed all 5 of her kids???????  |

His ex-wife killed all five of her children my drowning them!! It's sad but only god can judge him and his wife!! |
I wouldn't have said anything, but I blame the mother more. If she felt stressed we are a great country to have social services. We even have free birth control! I understand post-partum depression, but I also don't believe in making excuses. If you did it, own up to it and get what you have coming. Murdering her kids took time. She could have called someone after what happened with the first one. I don't even understand why she wasn't charged for the murders of her 2 and 3 year olds. I feel the most sorry for the 7 year old.... he was the one old enough to understand what was going and that the mother he trusted was hurting him. :( I feel terrible for him the most. I can't understand why the husband supported his wife through the whole thing. I have to wonder who supports the kids? Won't someone speak for what happened to them? Oh a similar note... I found this article recently... a man was convicted of killing his 9 kids. He even had insest relationships with them. http://www.religionnewsblog.com/11461 |
Chestersmom - I think you summed up what many people think about Rusty Yates. That poor woman was mentally unbalanced to do what she did but ...there was something wrong with HIM too - he HAD to know something was very wrong - no woman wakes up one morning and kills all her children without showing some signs of illlness - I always felt he must have known she had severe problems & choose to ignore it. And then to act so forgiving after was UNNATURAL....As much as he must have been devestated by the deaths of all his children - I think the way he stood by her & claimed he loved her was a PR move all the way... till he could get on with his own life. Edited to add....lol - I just realized I pretty much repeated what you said....sorry !! I would feel the same way if I saw him in public. |

andrea yates should be drowned herself not wasting tax payers money sitting around being taken care of . they shouldn't have had soooo many kids! i probably wouldn't have recoginized him but how could he just move on after something like that ? i don't get it! but i guess that's the only choice one has either move on or peril? i'm at a loss but i sure as heck wouldn't ever leave my child alone with someone i think to be mentally unstable who may even think of hurting them! i'm sure he had to know something ! did you say anything? i wonder if this "new wife" knows? i'm sure she has to know something? |

You know I have a major problem with this post potarum depression crap anyways. I understand ppl may have some issues but having 4 kids and than on the 5th saying well i got post partum depression..yeah right. shes a waste of space that needs to go to the electric chair not some facility where are tax dollars are taking care of a friggin murder. a child murder at that. Those kids didnt have a chance to even live some life they were killed by a person they trusted and loved and she just went and drowned them... ok im going to stop now or im just going to get very irrate,....   |
my opinion, thats their problem.... poor children...innocent children. |
From what I've read and heard her husband was aware of her problems and she had been seeing a doctor. In fact she had just been to her doctor a few days before this happened. So you have to ask; is the doctor also responsible somewhat for not recognizing her severe mental problem, afterall that is why she was seeing him! There is allot of blame to go around in this case, but it doesn't change anything. Those precious children are gone and it could have been prevented!! I hope they have a conscience and it prevents them from ever enjoying any part of their miserable lives. BTW, I too wouldn't have said anything, I probably would have left the bar though. I couldn't stand to see him, makes me sick to my stomach. |
I saw a TV special on this..right before the drowning happened, her doctor took her off of the medicine she was on. She was having hallucinations and schitzophrenic episodes. She was very very mentally ill...it had more to do with that than post partum depression. She told her interviewer that she thought the devil would take her children from her if she didn't kill them and send them to heaven. She believed she was saving them. Its all very sad.. |
i still can't fathom how you could kill your own child crazy or not you can't tell me anything that would even begin to make me understand doing that much less with 5 kids! she called the police right after she did it and told them what she had done i think that anyone who takes anothers life should lose there's the same way eye for an eye not sit around wasting our money and trying to make pleas or deals or get off on technacalitys or after serving time! ughhhhh. |
i need help....sorry i dont know how to make a new topic !! grr:mad: im so new to this! please help me :aimeeyork thanks! |

Besides the mental instituation she should have been sentanced to having her uterus taken out because she doesn't deserve to be called a mother ever again. :thumbdown I would get SO MAD if she had more kids after taking the lives of her sons! |

I have no sympathy for perople like her at all. she will get whats coming to her..hopefully shell just die and that will be the end of it!!!!! |

I'm not even a mother and I can't fathom putting a child to death, especially in such a cruel way. To be quite frank I think tooooo many people use insanity as a reason for their stupidity, like killing kids, or anyone, doing drugs, cheating, stealing, abusing ect. It's pathetic. I wouldn't be surprised that may 1% of those who claim it are the only ones who actually are, if even that, even then killing someone especially a child is unforgiveable. I hope she rots in hell :thumbdown |
I think what she did was VERY wrong. But has anyone here had somebody they loved very much that has been mentally ill?? Has anyone seen a beautiful mind?? Mental illness is not easy to understand. It doesn't make what she did right. And I think the worst part is people knew that she was ill and they let her still take care of FIVE children all by herself. I'm sure the guilt must eat at that father everyday! |
