I was at work in Huntsville Alabama. I worked for the government and we had people in DC close to the pentagon.... it was a day I'll never forget. |
We were on vacation in Wyoming and got up early to go golfing when we saw it live on TV. Our flight canceled, we later had to take a 40 hour bus ride to California to attend a wedding. I still remember stopping at every town to buy a newspaper or listen to the news. We also kept staring at the sky to see if planes were allowed in the air yet. |
I was watching CNBC (was doing a lot of stock trading at the time). Remember, thinking after the first plane hit - Oh, I wonder how that could have happened and then just panic after the second one hit and I realized with the world what had happened. Never thought this would occur on our own soil! I can only imagine how the people of New York felt. |
I came in late to school that day I was in third grade and saw that everyone in the whole school was watching tv even kindergarteners!! My mom freaked out when I told her because alot of the littler kids such as my sister were scared and balling their eyes out!! They kept asking if we were going to get hit by a plane too!! My mom so so furious that we moved within the next couple of days!! I totally understand that it's very crutial to our society now a days but for little five and six year olds to watch people jumping out of a building and watching them fall to their death was horriffic!! My condolences to anyone who lost someone on that faitful day!! |
We lived in Brooklyn, NY at the time- I was home in bed, trying to get some more sleep after dropping my daughter off in school. My husband was online and that is when he read that a plane hit the first tower. He comes to tell me and I'm thinking yea right, he just wants to get me out of bed! Eventually he put on the radio loud and I jumped up, I couldnt believe it. We lived in a 2family house, so we ran upstairs to my parents and continued to watch it live on TV. Suddenly plane 2 hit, we were all in shock. I started to panick, no one knew why, if more was to come and if it was an attack. We rushed to get my daughter out of school early. I wanted to be sure she was with me. My brother works not too far from the towers so we made sure he was okay, he was and he actually video taped some of it. My sister and her husband are NYPO so we found out they too were not at that location at that time. We didnt lose anyone we knew but I couldnt help but feel a great sense of loss and anger. I definately cried alot when we walked around the area a few days after, my heart ached for everyone, people crying all around you, posters all over with pictures of missing people, candles and flowers. Along with that was lots of debris, smoke that lasted for days and even a bad smell. |
I remember it so clearly. I was on my sofa under a blanket watching television. I had a cold and I was miserable. When it came on the air and I was taking it all in as to what was actually happening my phone started ringing, first my mom, then my hubby and many others. It was a horrid feeling I remember and I also remember getting so angry. My heart goes out to all those who suffered the loss of a loved one at the hands of the terrorists. I still can't believe this really happened sometimes when I think about it. My heart also goes out to the families (of) and the individuals who are fighting to this day to prevent this from ever happening again. Hats off to you guys. You give the greatest sacrafice for us all to be able to sit here and type away in peace at our little computers and go about our daily lives raising our families, and I NEVER forget that. |
I was in Algebra class at school..........we were sent home and the borders were shut down. I lived in Yuma, Az at the time. |
i was starting my 1st day in the communications field... sitting in orientation and watching it on tv... and then saw the 2nd plane hit! we were on "lock-down" immediately it was a scary 1st day... everyone calling in was crying and some employees knew people in the pentagon i will never forget that morning but then again i am sure most people wont... |
It was the scariest day of my life... I was at work in downtown Brooklyn just off the Brooklyn Bridge. A co-worker heard the news on the radio and we put on a small tv set in the office and everyone gathered around. We saw the whole thing unfold live in the news. We were all so shocked after the towers collapsed that everyone started running out of the office to go home and check on their families. One of the most vivid memories I have of that day are the people I saw when I walked outside. People were covered in soot and debris. They were fleeing Manhattan on foot over the bridge and they were all covered with dust. At the time, I was so shocked that this didn't register with me and I wondered what all of that was. People were walking like zombies. There were thousands of people in the streets but you could hear a pin drop. I felt like my whole world was collapsing around me. I have never been so scared in all my life. There was no mass transit running that day so I walked for 3 hours to get home. I visited Ground Zero a few weeks after. It was the most devastating thing I have ever seen. There were mountains of steel and debris as far as the eye could see. You would get off the train and the first thing that would hit you was the stench of burn and death. That smell is forever tattooed in my memory. I was lucky that I didn't lose anyone that day, but I felt like I lost a part of myself. My beautiful city was violated and I felt like all that I had ever known and felt secure about was taken away from me. I still get emotional about it to this day. God bless all the heroes and innocent people that died that day. |
i think i just had got to work at jfk airport. my co workers were outside looking towards nyc at the smoke. the first plane had already hit...by that time, the whole building was outside not knowing what the heck is going on. all in a panick...when we finally realized it was a terror attack , we really panicked cause we were in the same building as us customs and federal agents sooooooooooo, thats a target right there... finallly they stopped all air traffic, not a plane to be seen, very cold and calm and sickening, remember i work at jfk a/p and i hear planes every minute, this was sick and scary.. they sent us all home and that night i heard the fighter jets fly over my house, amazing.... also that night i took a walk to the beach, a block away and out in the far ocean their were barges, boats all lined up for miles protecting us soil............it was some scene, brought chills to everyone... |
I was sleeping in and hubby called and told me to go turn on the tv. I remember i went to the living room and turned it on, watched it a moment then went back to bed. Hubby called again and asked me if i had seen it, i said ok there was a plane crash so what. After hanging up, i realized the importance and went and watched the tv the rest of the day. So much for waking me up from a sound sleep. |
I was home getting ready for work, my dad came in and told me what happened. It was like unreal. We were watching when the second plane it, I was shocked. It was like no way did I just see that, then they collapased. I was like oh my God. The signficance of the events still hadn't really registered though. It was like i was in disbelief. I went to work, we talked about it all day, etc. It wasn't until later that evening or the next day as the turn of events were being reported that I really realized what had happened and the significance of it all. |
i stayed home from school that day so i knew b4 my friends who were at school i really didnt understand it at first as well as i do now! |
I was at work and remember one of by bosses called to tell me that a plane had hit one of the towers at the Trade Center. We had a TV in the office so we were all sitting there and right before our eyes we saw the second plane hit. My mother worked right across the street from the trade center, my heart dropped when I was calling her to see if she was ok...luckily though she stayed home from work that day. They let us out early from work, and my normal 20 minute ride home had become 3 hours because they closed the expressway and the northern state. Days later, just like Gina was saying I took a ride down to Long Beach and saw all the huge boats that were lined up just protecting our shore line, what an erie feeling it was to see something like that so close to home. A few days later I went down to ground zero, never prepared for what I would see there. Poster and posters from family members looking for the lost. It was so quiet there, flowers everywhere, people crying and the smoke still rising from the burning towers. The unfortunate tragedy is something most won't forget, especially those who live here. This was our home. |
What a tragic day, R.I.P to all the poor people that lost their lives that day, and my prayers for those who lost relatives/friends/co-workers. :( I was actually on holiday in st.cyprien (south france), all around the campsite people were shouting and talking,it was chaos. we knew something was wrong, but didnt understand their language. We went to te bar and saw it on the frech news chanel, but again didnt understand the language, just understood the horrific images infront of us. I called my mum back in england and she told me what had happened, a day i will never forget. :thumbdown |
