One WEEK!!! I quit smoking for a week!!! I am so proud of myself so I had to share with ya'll. This is the longest I've gone in a while. I only tried to quit one other time and I quit for three weeks that time and started back up when my mom got sick and I was stressed. Ok, that is all :) |
WOO HOO! Way to go! that's awesome news and I know it can't be easy:thumbup:   |
Good Job!! How did you do it? Did you quite cold turkey? |
  Keep up the good work! :D I'm really proud of you.:) I bet you can go longer!!! I'm looking foward to hearing more on this great progress! |
Thanks! Yes, cold turkey. I have been chewing a ridiculous amount of speariment orbitz gum. I'm talking like a pack and a half of gum per day! I also have been chewing on straws a lot and taking Excedrin once in a great while when I think the cravings are too much for me to handle. I have so much more energy. I went for TWO runs yesterday. I never run!!! :) |
Congratulations! |
oohh yayy i quit a week ago too.. yay us!!! lol ugh it hurts though.. i get headaches a lot more now and get soo restless at night.. but i tough it out.. i hope we can both get through this and quit for good.. good luck!! |
:clapsmile :yay_jump: :bravo: Way to go!!! I did it cold turkey too using Doublemint Gum though. Just kept telling myself I could always repair or even replace my teeth. But, the wonders of medicine have not perfected lung transplants! I'm routing for you!!! |
Good for all of you who have quit!! My husband used candy cigarettes when he quit. He quit for 11 months after an angioplasty at 44 for blocked arteries and started up when his Dad stayed with us for 2 weeks that Christmas (he was a smoker too). I was sooooo mad. That was 10 years ago and he is still smoking and has trouble walking any distance. So keep it up it is so worth it. |
Congratulations. Got any vids of the run? LOL. Keep up the good work. |
We used Orbitz gum too. It has a chemical in it that actually retards cavities. (Per our dentist). I also ate life savers,,, wintergreen... that ended up with a hugh dental bill. Now I just eat sugar free stuff. It has now been 5 1/2 years and I don't ever want to go thru the cravings again. Guess I'll stick with the gum and life savers. I also did alot of praying for help.....that is what really worked. |
OMG kristy, this is great news..keep up the good work...i wish i could do it. i did it for 4 days i think last month and went back to it like a friggin ahole.. im rooting for ya girl....you made it this far girly.... im gonna check in on you every day.....   |

Congrats!!! Today is day 14 for me! Woot! |
I never smoked in my lifetime so I really can't relate to what you're going thru but I do commend you on your accomplishment  I hope you can stick with it. My sister smoked all her life, age 68 now, and tomorrow she starts her first of six kemo treatments for lung cancer. Please say a prayer she makes it thru. I'm rooting for you and all those that want to quit smoking, I hate to see any of you having to go thru what my sister is going thru now. I just bought her a wig today and my stomach is all upset. |
Congratulations!!!! One day at a time! |
hows it going kristy girl????????????????? |
CONGRATS!! That's awesome!! Keep up the good work!! :D |
Good for you. Hang in there. It is not an easy task but it will be worth it in the end. My sister smoked 2 packs a day. She used the patch. She quit, that was 10yrs ago. It added years to her life. Congratulations. Your doing a good thing for yourself. |
Thanks everyone for your well wishes. I am still going strong. I don't see myself ever going back. Even though it hasn't been that long, it feels like a lifetime. I still want one all the time, but I am enjoying not smelling like smoke and especially all the money I've saved (over 20 dollars so far!) and the time I am not spending standing outside sucking on a cigarette! Today was really bad when I woke up, but I am ok! I am sucking on a tootsie pop :) If I can do anything to help any of you quit, please let me know. I am obviously no expert because it's only been 9 days. Yorkie24u - sorry about your sis. I will keep her in mind whenever I need strength. I hope that she does well. Chemo is so tough :( |
Good job, Kristy! Quitting is the hardest thing I've ever tried! |

Kristy - Congrats to you!!! As someone else said, just take it one day at a time. I have quit 3 times in the past - first time I had stopped for almost a year when my dad was diagnosed with a terminal illness so, of course, I fell back on the "crutch". The other 2 times I quit was when I was pregnant with each of my boys. I know that I can quit cold turkey, have done so in the past but I gotta "convince" myself. When the time is right for me, you can bet I'll be leaning on you and others to help see me through the rough times. Keep it up! Very proud of you! Suzi |
Way to go Kristy!!!!! You can do it! I'm rooting for you! |
Congratulations! Keep up the good work. I know it's hard. |
Well I am so happy to pop in and read this!! Kristy, that is AWESOME!! Good job, girlie! Keep it up! |
YOU GO, KRISTY!!!!! I haven't been on YT all summer and this is the first post I've seen from you!!! I'm not a smoker, but I have a friend who had a hard time quiting, and she swore by licorice root. You buy it at health food stores. It just looks like a stick you would pick up in your yard... but whatever the natural components are... they help with the cravings for nicotine. She would always keep them aroung and chew on them when she felt like having a ciggy. She quit and hasn't smoked for a few years now! Good luck! You're doing a good thing! |
Yaaay! Good for you! It's tough to quit, but the best thing you can do for yourself (and everyone around you  ). :good job: |
Congratulations! I know to quit smoking is one of the hardest things to do. It takes A LOT of will power. So good for you! Hang in there. |
