Croc Hunter, Steve Irwin, dies. I can't even believe this. I'm totally in shock. I loved him. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060904/...ralia_irwin_dc SYDNEY (Reuters) - Steve Irwin, the quirky Australian naturalist who won worldwide acclaim, has died in a marine accident off Australia's northeast coast, local media reported on Monday. Queensland state government sources quoted by Australian Associated Press (AAP) said Irwin, 44, whose television show "The Crocodile Hunter" won international acclaim and popularized the phrase "Crikey," was believed to have been killed by a stingray barb that pierced his chest. He was filming an underwater documentary off Port Douglas when the accident occurred, the report said. Sky Television also reported that Irwin had been stung by a sting ray. Australian emergency officials could not immediately confirm the reports. Irwin won a global following for his daredevil antics but also triggered outrage in 2004 by holding his then one-month-old baby while feeding a snapping crocodile at his Australian zoo. |

I just woke up my kids to tell them...he sure has been a big part of our lives also. Its funny how a t.v. star can feel like part of the family when they are in your living room daily!! Dawn |
By the way - I thought that this happened last week. (I heard about it on another forum I'm on. and someone posted an article saying that he died monday) but it was 11 AM September 4th local time. so it like....just happened. :( |

He\'s supposed to die doing something silly like taking out the trash! BAM! Heart attack! Something like that! Wow.... But I guess If he had to go... He went doing what he loved! And he was living in the moment! And I bet just before he got stung he was like.... Crikey, thats a big stinger! At least he was in his element! Geezz... Its just not real for me.... Someone say its a hoax!! He\'s the man!! Always just out of reach!! Inches away from death, never actually in its path.... I guess you can only cheat death so many times... :( |
Awww so it ain\'t so.... :unlove: OMG!!! i am so upset and him leaving those little babies behind to grow up without a daddy...he seemed like such a nice man. my girls loved to watch his show and we have his movie too. they are going to be so upset when i tell them. my hubby used to chase my daughters around the house hollering "Crikey!!!" and he would catch them and tickle them and they loved it. My deepest sympathies for his family. |
I just read the story. I can\'t believe this!!! He can\'t die!! I loved watching his shows. I thought if he died it would be of natural cause he always seemed so invincible when it came to the animal world. I am so shocked by this, it is so hard to believe that this happened!! I can\'t imagine how his family, friends, co workers are feeling right now. This is soooo sad, I really going to miss him and his shows!!!! |
I\'m so sad too - :( :( :( :( I had chills when I heard the news this morning. That man was SO full of life and charisma and had such respect for animals. What a loss for our world. I know he did some stunts people didn\'t agree with - but I\'ve enjoyed each and every show he did.... He really will be missed. :( :( |
 that\'s so sad. i really feel bad for his wife and child. kids around the world adore him and will be devastated. this is very sad. |
What a total shock when I logged on this morning and CNN, which is my homepage, popped up and I saw this! My family and I really enjoyed watching his shows - loved the way he interracted with all wildlife, was so enthusiastic about what he was doing - amazing work. His love for all creatures, whether "vicious" or not, will totally be missed - there\'s no one like him. May God comfort his wife and children during the coming days! R.I.P. Steve - you will be sadly missed:( |
