Hubby Found A Baby Kitten - HELP!! Jim just called me. He said a co-worker found a baby (and I'm talking BABY, his eyes are barely open) kitten outside in the middle of the street. The co-worker John (who is a MAJOR creep) wants to bring it home as a present for his wife and daughter. I'm so PISSED!! This guy has a mixed breed dog who is RATTY and never gets groomed. He is so irresponsible with his dog and now he wants to take care of a baby kitten ... I can only imagine the neglect!! I called my vet and he said the kitten should be on KMR kitten formula. But I know John is not going to pay for a vet visit and for this formula. So the vet said if he won't pay, then go buy Gerber baby food (chicken). He said to keep the kitten WARM and when it's 4 weeks old it can start to be gradually introduced to regular hard food. The kitten is about 10 days old -- poor baby. :( They also think he has fleas or may have them (found a little flea on him). I told Jim to try and talk John out of keeping the kitten. If he does talk John out of it, Jim will take the kitten and bring it to the vet. The kitten needs to be de-wormed and possibly flea dipped as soon as possible. I'm so upset over this. I told Jim that if he can get the kitten, we'll take care of it and nurse it back to health and then place it with a family as a pet only (must be neutered). I'm so sick over this. I can't keep the kitten because I'm allergic to cats and so is Jim but I can't imagine this poor baby going home with John. :( PLEASE pray for this kitten ... I hope Jim can take it home. At least that way I will know it gets taken care of and I will find it a wonderful home in the future. :( By the way, it's a boy and he's all black with a little bit of white on his paws. PS - If there is any other advice you guys can give me about baby kittens, please pass it on. |
awwwwwwww poor baby... i hope jim can take it home... praying to god. he is such a animal lover too..keep us informed |
OH NO! I am really hoping that your hubby gets the kitten!!!!!!!!!! Poor little bitty baby! I don't know a thing about kittens. I would just do what your vet says. It sounds like great advice to me. What if you and hubby got the kitten, nursed it back to health, and then gave it to the co-worker? Cats are so self-sufficient that I am sure that even though this guy is a creep, it would be ok living with him after he is healthy. |

I will even have the cat neutered before he goes to his new home. I've heard the ASPCA does it for a very reasonable price. |

Aww, poor thing. You are right - this baby needs to be with someone who's going to take care of him the "right" way - proper food, vet visit, etc. I'm praying Jim talks him out of the kitten and brings him home where he will be VERY well taken care of until time for his re-homing. Please keep us posted on this precious bundle of fur! |
man i wish you were closer my neibour just had kittens her mom could adopt this baby till it was ready to go. i would have it get to the vet one way or another right away you'll have to bottle feed it and make sure it keeps up body temp this is sad good luck and let us know what happens |
Oh My.. If the jkiten is just opening eyes he is VERY Young. It can be done though , because I used to raise kittens and have done my share of handraising from day one. You need to get either Just Born or Nurse maid... or whatever you have locallly fo kitten replacement milk. If you can't find any, he local vet near you always usually has some for sale. You also need a syringe. I found it easier to use the small thin kind. Just follow directions on the can for feeding. You can also usually call a local vet and they are usually happy to help people who find stray kittens with instructions. You need to make sure that when you feed the kitten you go only as fats as the kitten can drink. If you see bubbles or wetness coming out the nose you are going to fast and drowning the poor baby. .Once the kitten starts thriving you need to upgrade to mixing the nursing formula wih crushed kittewn kibble to make a soup . Just WATCH to see if they can handle this. Also keep supplementing with the formula from the syringe. Once he is passed this stage you can go to just moist kiblble and then keep working your way to the regular food. if you can get a food scale it would be great. They usually are under $20 in wamart and such. if the kitten starts LOSING you need to really watch and talk with vet. some vets will also let you come in and use therir scales if you take the kitten to a first visit. I took one of my jkittens every2 days for 3 months because she was so tiny and frail. the office kinda of got very attached to her. ....LOL... She was only 12 ounces at 14 weeks... but quite a little spitefire. |
If the kitten had fleas it could have worms too and might need a wormer from the vet |
Right now as I type this, hubby is driving the kitten "Little Johnny" to the Brooklyn CACC. We cannot bring him to our home because he has fleas -- I can't and won't risk subjecting my dogs to fleas. So I called the Brooklyn CACC and spoke to a rep there. He said they will take care of Little Johnny, clean him up, feed him baby kitten food, get rid of the worms (if any) and fleas, neuter him and give him all his shots ... then put him up for adoption. They said he may get adopted quickly because he's so young ... people mostly prefer kittens over older cats. So hopefully Little Johnny will find a wonderful family very soon. I told them that I will be calling in on a regular basis to see how he is doing. And I told them that if he doesn't get adopted, do NOT euthanzie him (I know that's a long time off but still, I feel an oglibation towards him). I said I would adopt him if I had to (if the choice between life or death came up) or find someone else to adopt him but PLEASE call me before doing anything. So at lease this story has a happy ending for now. I'm so happy John did not decide to keep him. I would have been very pissed off. Good luck Little Johnny!! |
dont worry jen, im sure the little kitty will get adopted.... and jims is so nice to take care of the kitten like that... alot of men would not do that... goodluck little kitty |
You have such a sweet hubby! GOOD LUCK, Little Johnny! I'm sure he'll find a great home where he'll be loved! |
I'm so glad to read that you and your husband have seen to the welfare of this kitten! He is going to a place that will take care of him. Please keep us posted on what happens with Little Johnny! |
