BE CAREFUL!! I have heard TRUE horror stories of coyotes carrying off small children!! PLEASE do not let your babies outside especially after sunset by themselves and be careful if YOU or your HUBBY go outside alone. PLEASE be careful!! |
Coyotes are a problem at our farm as well. I am afraid to leave my miniature horse babies out in the field at night so everyone comes into the barn  which means more barn chores for me. I was at a neighbors one day last year helping them "work the cows". In broad daylight a pack of coyotes was watching.....and waiting. They had a scout on top of a big round bale of hay, and he just watched us all afternoon. It was a freaky feeling knowing that he was there. I always turn on our outside lights and "scope out the yard before I let the yorkies out after dark and they are never ever left unattended. We are encroaching on their habitat, and they have no place left to live, so they have adapted to living in our backyards :( :thumbdown |
We don't live on a farm but own 25 acres, we see deer all the time, matter of fact we leave apples, salt block & stuff like that out for them...there have been about 7 at one time, but last year we notice a coyote following them all the time, he is back doing this year too... My dad will call me and let me know not to let the dogs out when he see them, he is afraid that Max more than the little ones will go after him...& he told me that the coyotes would kill him and take the little ones if the where out..he said that they aren't really that scared of you so for me to stay in too....so be careful Jodi |

I just posted this on the other thread, but thought I would here too.... We live out in the "woods" surrounded my national forest on most sides of our land. We have seen all sorts of animals come through. Once, in broad daylight, we were sitting on our upper deck watching a small herd of deer in our backyard (a few adults and a few little ones) and the deer seemed to be watching something in the woods, pretty soon, here comes a coyote out of the woods trying to get a deer. We freaked out and started yelling, which scared them all, but the deer went one way and the coyote another. Our close encounter: We had a momma coyote that was looking for a place to den (our neighbors had her visit their places too)...anyway, she would come right up to the porch, she didn't seem very shy. I opened the door to scare her off and my DH, who was to have taken Mojo into the other room, had not gotten him or held him or something and out there door he went!! He chased the coyote off and I was running after him with no shoes or socks on, right after a rain to get Mojo! Luckily, I was on the track team years and years ago in school, so I can sprint pretty fast. (Thank goodness) I caught up to Mojo and snatched him up (afraid of other coyotes being out). Needless, to say, we haven't seen a coyote in a long time, we hear them though on some nights. Course, Mojo is never outside unless we are with him and we now have two big dogs outside too. |
we have a lot of open space where we live and I went for a walk one day and one was walking right toward me in my path. A women running stopped with me and we were not sure what to do. Fortunately behind the coyote came a man walking his springer spaniel which scared teh coyote away. I think coyote's are scared of humans, but I would watch out for your farm animals and your dogs!!! |
We have bears, coyotes, deer, and alot of wild life in my area (near a reservation), although 40 minutes from NYC. It's getting worse then ever. I have a resident owl in my yard, as well as deer swimming in my pool. They are so domesticated, don't even care about pool chemicals. They swim and walk up the stairs at the shallow part. The rotten part is cleaning up their droopings on the brick deck around the pool. Although I have 2 acres fenced in, never let the dogs go outside, except on the wood deck on the second floor and I'm with them. Jessica |
