Something else that REALLY works but cost some $$$ is Beta Chemical Peels. Either a dermotologist or an anesthitician (sp?) can do these. I got 1 a week for 6 weeks right before my wedding and WOW! I would do these things all the time if I had the money. They are great to "jump start" your acne treatment if your face is broken out badly. The peels really clean out your pores and that way when you start using the acne medication it can really works to prevent the zits instead of having to get rid of them first. These Beta peels are different from Glycolic peels in that they don't hurt and they don't actually make your face peel. I LOVE them! |
Thanks Khristine for the info. I honestly do not have bad acne. I have combination skin that's really dry in some places and extremely oily in others. I always have at least 2 pimples and some other red bumps on my cheeks. I don't have health insurance so I am not going to try anything new in the near future because I can't afford the full price of the prescription, but when I do get insurance I will have to check out Tazorac. |

Does anybody do Clay masks? I love my benzeclin but also love the clay masks. I'm trying a new brand tonight so will let you know how I like it. I usualy leave the on from an HOUR to over nigt. I always feel so GOOD after I do them because then I don't have all the huge PORES... It closes them up :thumbup: |

ProActive did not work for me. My dermatologist told me that it was overpriced and that I could get something from her for cheaper that would work better. All ProActive is is Benzoyl Peroxide, same thing as Benzaclyn basically, but in a much much lower concentration. Most people with anything more than mild acne need more than the amount of Benzoyl Peroxide that is in ProActive. Almost all people with moderate to severe acne need something like Differin, Retin-A, Avita, Tretinoin, or Tazorac which are Retinoids that clear up moderate-to-severe acne by normalizing oil production and the way skin grows and sheds. |
My Dr. told me the benzaclin worked so well for me because the Benzoyle peroxide in it dried up the excess acne causing oils and the Clindimycin(spelling ???) was an antibiotic that killed the infective germs. Made perfect sense to me that it ending up working so well:thumbup: |
Whoops ..i wanted to add that THAT is why the insurance covered it , when most insurances DON"T cover most acne treatments. BECAUSE it had the antibiotic in it. |
