Ok...who has a maid???? I am just over it. I work my butt off all week, then on the weekends I kill myself to clean house.....With 3 males in house, that can't see the darn laundry basket or the toilet...I am continually complaining..... You know it is not right......all they have to do is pick up after themselves...not me, not each other....just themselves...... I am considering a Maid. If I want to remain married, or not have a heart attack, I think I need help.. Anyone have an opinion about it? Or how frequently I need her to come and help? Thanks for your replies..... |
i'm curious as well mabey if my husband had to pay someone to clean he would start helping out more LOL. |
maid You need help..and if your family can not be counted on, then help yourself to a maid! Life is too short to haggle over these things if you can afford one. I have never had cleaning help, but many friends do...most have a service come weekly for cleaning...that would leave you free to do laundry if you wanted..or they will do everything, it just depends on the $$$ you want to spend. It is good to teach your kids to help out also and that depends on age...if clothes do not make it to the laundry hamper they did not get washed in my house..clean clothes were important to my girls..but boys may not care..LOL I think having someone clean the bathrooms and kitchen weekly would be a great help to any working mom..good luck |
Personally I believe that having a maid is just allowing your famaily to become even more dependent on women cleaning up after them. I'd crack the whip, and we'd all spend 20 minutes cleaning every evening. It would teach the kids to clean up after themselves and make them more responsible adults. An age appropriate, cleaning schedule with a reweard system would help. Then everyone knows what is exopected of him and the consequences, if his chores are not done. JMHO |
I hear ya... I've been cleaning for thirty years and I'm still not done! |
We have 2 maids our neice and nephew;) That's why they get allowance each week, they rotate chores. |
My parents have a maid come in twice a week, and before/after special occasions like dinner parties and whatnot. My mother is a doctor, and she stays in her office sometimes until 7-8 at night. Even when she comes home early she is usually exhausted and just passes out right after dinner. My parents have had a maid come in at least once a week for as long as I can remember. They are very happy with the twice a week schedule. I would suggest starting with having a maid come in once a week, and see how that goes. I think you can even have them come in once every two weeks if that's all you need. Good luck :) |
Lol, what maid? I am the friggin maid. |
I have a wonderful lady that comes in every other week - BUT - it's just my mom, my husband and I, and we all pretty much pick up after ourselves. The cleaning lady dusts, mops the floors, vacuums, cleans the bathrooms and the kitchen, changes the beds and washes the linens. It is such a lift to come home to a CLEAN house. I HATE housework - so this is perfect for us. The trick is to find someone you trust to be in your house. There are lots of services, but I was always uncomfortable with them. I fianlly found someone that had worked for several years for a friend of mine and now she works for me too, for about 10 years. The only problem is getting EVERYHTING picked up for her to clean - our house isn't too messy, but the evening or morning before, I find myself running around like mad, picking everything up - but the house sure looks great after she leaves. I highly recommend it - it's a great stress reducer! |

When you hire a maid, atleast all the ones I know of, you still have to clean up your mess, they just do like the vacuuming, dusting, etc. They won't put someones clothes away off of the floor. Therefore, the males in your house will still have to pick up after themselves. If they don't want to help out cleaning, make them pay for it. It shouldnt just be left up to you. |
My hubby and I are both still really young (22 and 25), but once we get settled in a house of our own in about 2 years, we've already agreed that the first thing we are going to invest in is a maid that will comes once a week. Both of us grew up with a maid that came once a week, so I am glad that there was nothing to argue about in that department. Both of us work, and on the weekends, the LAST thing we want to do is clean the house! Do yourself a favor, GET A MAID!!! You will be SOOOO much happier! And....a Happy Wife = A Good Life :p |
I dont think a maid is going to pick up your husbands dirty underpants lol she may clean the tolite or mop up his missed spots, but I doubt she will pick up after him. I just wonder why I have a laundry basket right in the bathroom and still they will leave there dirty clothes right beside the basket?? now thats lazy!! "Kids will be kids and men will be pigs" |
Actually, my parents' maid does the laundry and the ironing as well as cleaning. That's why she comes twice a week. Then she hangs the clean clothes in the dresser. It's a part of her job. That was discussed when she was hired though. Which reminds me, my mother fired a maid because the maid washed six of my mother's cashmere sweaters with hot water in the washing machine. The sweaters came out of the washing machine looking like baby clothes. So, yea, the ones I've met do pick up after my parents, even when they are not supposed to. LOL |
When I was working full time I had a lady come in every other week. Now that I don't work I still hate cleaning but love a clean house so I have her come once a month and do a thorough cleaning and the other 3 weeks I dust, vacuum and clean the bathrooms. It's only 70.00 for 4 hours and I have a small house so she gets a lot done. It's so nice to have that one day a month to come home to a super clean house. Also I am taking care of my 86 year old parents on a daily basis so technically I am still working. |
Until last week, I had a wonderful woman who came every other week. I still had to do some cleaning of my own in between but didn't have to devote a whole day to cleaning. It is SO SO worth it! I just got rid of her because I don't work and its just myself, husband and 11 yr. old daughter and truthfully, it was making me feel like I was lazy. Also our house is on the market so we have to keep it squeaky clean at all times now for showings. Still, I miss her already! |
Having a maid is fun! Come home on thursdays, and voila, the house is clean! But I never can find my stuff! |
I agree I've had a lady come on Thursday mornings for ever and it is so cool to come home and everything be neat and clean again. I've even been known to use that day for beauty shop appointments and feel totally pampered. I recommend it and I don't feel like it spoils your family because there are still plenty of chores for the other 6 days a week. It is also good for all of you for you not to feel totally taken advantage of. Good luck. |
Forget the maid, get a sexy house boy *grin* That might make hubby change his mind and help out :) |
i have 3 maids... aint that nice... they are the only ones that i allow to do the job.. and they are so so cheap too.... im sure lots of you have the same ones i have.. their names are me, myself and i , they will have to do for now.. |
most maid service will require you to pick up before they come to clean. most just clean floors, dust, bathrooms, laundry so you still have to have the toys put away....things off your counter....to me, when i had a maid, it was more work to get the house ready. and when they only come once or twice a week, you still have the other days that you need to clean. i think the best advise is to have everyone in the household contribute and clean everyday before bedtime. make sure their rooms are picked up, they have put their clothes away. my little girl who is 3 already cleans her room everyday. puts her clothes in her drawers and has the room picked up before bed. it's hard training but it is worth it did i mention, my husband is a clean freak......he is not scared to wash dishes by hand...he does laundry everyday....he vacuums the ceiling fans once a week.....oh my gosh...i get tired just watching him |
So why are you actually PICKIN UP after the 3 guys? I would SO stand myground and not do ANY of their laundry and only my own. i also would make my own food and wash only my own freakin dishes and hide them for myself to use. it is HARD and gross and messy but eventually they will catch on and do SOME things. My husband does ALL his own laundry now. UH that was because for some reason all his always got bleach spots or ripped when I did it...Go FIGURE;) |

What makes you think you will "EVER" be done?:D |
When I was working fulltime and my husband and I were both making good money, we had a woman who came once a week for 2-3 hours. She basically cleaned the whole house, including vacuuming, mopping floors and an occasional window. It cost us $60/week (1800 sq. foot house). However, we don't leave anything laying around. I'm not sure a cleaning person will pick up stuff laying on the floor. I "trained" my hubby and kids right from the beginning with laundry baskets in each closet. When you get undressed, the clothes go in the basket and only in the basket. It was well worth paying someone to come home to a clean house and I really didn't do much in-between (maybe an occasional dusting or vacuuming). I hate housework and look forward to the day that I get my bills paid off so I can once again have this luxury!!!! |
I grew up with a maid coming twice a week. My mom is a doctor and my dad is a professor at a university.....and my brother and I were in a million extracurricular activities. Anyway, we were expected to do basic things (clean our own bathroom, make our own bed, laundry in the hamper, wash our own dishes, etc...) but she would do the laundry and keep the entire house spotless. She was really cheap....like $80 a week for a 6,000 sq. ft. house plus laundry. I think it kept my parents (especially my mom) sane. I'm married now, so I don't need one....and truthfully, I don't mind cleaning, so I probably won't be hiring one unless absolutely necessary.... |
$80 a week for a 6000 sq. ft. house.. That is called having a SLAVE:eek: |

YOUR RIGHT.. I don't know everything. I was only going by what YOU POSTED:animal36 |
I don't have a maid . . . but I do have a houseband :p And he sure is darn handy. I have been so busy trying to fill orders that yesterday he decided to make dinner - grilled chichen greek style, basmati and grilled veggies. I just supplied the tsatsiki and dinner was divine . . you wanna borrow him  |
Ill take him if he does dishes TOO:p |
I don't have a cleaning person right now but I want one in the future. Hubby really helps me out A LOT -- in fact, I think he does more cleaning then I do LOL!! He does the dishes without being asked, vacuums without being asked, cleans the ENITRE bathroom for me -- he's just great. I think team work is important when it comes to cleaning and simple household chores. :p :p |
